There are skins for individual units now? What is this, CoD? :massimo:

The limited edition of Lings of Wiberty included a custom Thor skin. I imagine a custom Colossus skin will be present in Vegeta of the Loin.

Looking at Kerrigan reminds me... Why are they spoilering us with the fact that she'll be the Zerg Queen again? It'd much more exciting if we still would be wondering how the Zerg could be coming back without an Overmind and Kerrigan back to her human self.

Another thing I'm unsure of: When I buy HotS will I be able to play with WoL players like with bw? Or will there be WoL maps that can't be played with HotS? And if it's like bw that it's an upgrade to the original game that becomes the quasi-standard why should I buy HotS and not wait for the 3rd part to get all 3 games for 1 price?

I mean if you like going without starcraft 2 for two years...

Why would you go with StarCraft II for any amount of time?

Same could be argued for any popular game in history, let's be honest. It has some qualities

personally I've decided to go with to reward Blizzards continued support for bw.
But when WoL came out that desire was suddenly gone...

I have no need to play it now. What's the point of playing it earlier when it isn't as developed, has fewer maps, and worse balance?
I've never understood people that needed to get a game, or movie at the date it comes out (or even before). Personally I have access to enough material to play or watch to last me the next few years, not even counting free games.

Nov 13 2012, 8:12 pm Pr0nogo Post #11

Qualities? Sure, I can think of a few. A shitty storyline, horrible engine development, terrible performance on modern machines due to a general lack of compression, DRM-infested UCC platform with a complete lack of offline/private map testing or support, censorship, customer support hotlines that are as clueless as the interns who developed the game, imbalanced and chaotic multiplayer, 'make things cool first, make things work later' ideology, and a general disrespect for existing quality control/lore/presentation that was present with the first title are definitely 'qualities' that this game has.

StarCraft II doesn't even fix the issues that Brood War has. It tried to update the game, and failed in certain aspects while succeeding in others, but it ultimately did not accomplish any sort of tangible or lasting improvement over the original game.

Ironically the most tangible improvement is an aspect they also fail (among) the most with: Ability to create complex custom maps. It's a million times more capable than what we had in bw but also much less polished and as you said, actually creating maps is hindered by their shitty platform.

About the map thing, the problem for me is that BW's setting and tilesets are infinitely more inspiring, so all the added editing power of sc2 is for nothing unless you first titanically struggle to give your map some character. Just look at the average sc2 map screenshot and you'll know what I mean, usually some big glowing green jungle with badly-scaled objects that would fit in a 3rd person jump'n'run.

That's because nobody wants to go through that titanic struggle, and the people who do won't use Blizzard's graphical assets because they're just so fucking bad. Poorly-scaled objects, clipping, lack of anti-aliasing, lack of compression, and hurr definition art design ahoy.

Probs for the same reason they spoiled the end twist (of Tychus working for Mengsk to kill Kerrigan) right at the opening cinematic - because the writers are whack!

The writers are interns who have no passion for the project because they don't care about it.

Yeh don't blame the interns blame Chris "Dollar-Sign-Eyes" Metzen.

I am completely serious. Metzen tells the interns to make a game and they make a game. Most of the voice actors flatly read lines off of paper instead of injecting passion and inspiration. The interns have little to no experience, so they don't programme or design the maps very well at all. The story is written by Metzen, allegedly, but he's a master at fucking up the lore of any game he touches. He'd do worse with HALO than 343 did with H4, and that's impressive.
