Help me De-Stress

I'm going through a very stressful time at the moment. I need a fun, non-social distraction. I'm a movie fan, so please recommend some thriller-drama-action-like, fast paced, intriguing films. Examples: District 9, City of God, Blood Diamond, Terminator 2, Fight Club, Star Trek, Shooting Dogs, V for Vendetta, etc...

Just here for the pie

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
The Godfather (1972)
The Godfather Part II (1974)
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Goodfellas (1990)
Casablance (1942)
Memento (2000)
Modern Times (1936)
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Life is Beautiful (1997)
Die Hard (1988)
Platoon (1986)
There Will Be Blood (2007)

Chances are you've seen all, or most, of these but there's my two cents.

The only thing on that list I haven't seen is Modern Times. I'll check it out if I feel like it later, but I'm in a mood for something more modern... I don't want to adjust for the style of another time, no matter how good a film it might be.

But thanks anyway.

I realize what you're trying to say but I would like to point out the irony in this

Modern Times is probably the one that least fits in with that list. It's more of a comedy than anything but it's still a very good film.

I order you to forgive yourself!

The Island
Inception (You probably already saw it.)
Resident Evil And the sequels. (You probably already saw it.)
Source Code
Limitless
The Bourne Identity And the sequels. (You may have seen it, but since there will be a new one coming out in 2012, it can refresh your memory.)
Mission: Impossible And the sequels. (You may have seen it, but since there will be a new one coming out in 2011, it can refresh your memory.)
First Blood (Rambo) And the sequels.
Mary Poppins Definitely.

I got a better list, but I don't feel like finding it.

Dungeon Master

I don't know if you watch foreign films at all, but there's a french movie called District 13 (Banlieue 13) which is pretty action-y and stuff. The intro's really cool:

Of all those films I have seen: Hot Fuzz, In Bruges, Lock/Stock, Snatch, The Departed, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Leon. Based on these I would say that we have similar tastes and I'll check out at least some of them. :)

KK, I have seen District 13.

ADD: cardinal, I think I've heard 99 Francs mentioned somewhere but I haven't seen it.

It's based on the novel by Frédéric Beigbeder and is semi-autobiographical. Directed by Jan Kounen. It's fast becoming a cult classic and has cameo appearances by both the author and director. It's quite honestly one of the best films I have seen, and at the same time completely incomparable to any film I've ever seen. It's closest parallel would be Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but with more emphasis on the satirical side of things, with a strong connotations similar to work by Kurt Vonnegut.

tl;dr, watch it.

The trick is to find good quality sub-titles, as all the torrents for it come without subs (and the DVD itself is near impossible to find). Unless you speak fluent French of course.

And let's not forget these amazing time wasters:

Sydney Shark
Toss the Turtle
Super Mario 63 (Honestly my favorite Flash game of all time. It's so well made.)
Endless War 3
Endless War 4
Feudalism II
Pandemic II
Territory WAR (There's also an online version that exists.)
Homerun in Berzerk Land (Like Toss the Turtle.)
The Guardian Chapter 2 (Don't bother with chapter 1 because it's terrible compared to this one, this one is like Zelda games.)

Those are just a few of my favorites.

District B13, actually. Saw it years ago, and it is great if you like parkour, action, and Luc Besson.
