Ah, I'm not sure you've seen my edit. I'll better split it then:
Another opinion of mine adjoins this very close. Because there is still a possibility to change nicknames, I wish there was a way to link to members in posts. That is especially necessary when people looking through old threads. I myself often look through old favorite threads of mine. Sometimes it's impossible to sort out who refers who, if you don't know that beforehand. For example, let's say I want to address Demented Shaman. But tomorrow he becomes devilesk and the day after tomorrow he become someone else. What I do is this: "Hello, [name:Demented Shaman]!" (the syntax is not really important). The way my post is representing to the public then changes each time the user changes his name. There also may be a link to the user's profile at this place.
Offtopic
If everyone had a devilesk sig and avatar there would be no need for advertisement
If you have free time and motivation no need to wait for a subscription!
Draw and suggest your signatures to people!
Probably even ask for minerals!
(When they be fully implemented.)

Some.
If you've quoted a member and then he changes his name the quotebox will show the member's old name, but it still links to the members profile which will show you his current name. I don't see the problem.

Here is the very core of the problem. Tell me please, whom have I quoted
there?

You need either to know this or click on the user's name in the quote. The problem it's not evident from the topic and the thread text itself (unless I click and go back, which costs me additional effort, time and patience).
Still, sometimes I want to refer to a person without quoting. For example in the very end (Post Scriptum) of
this post. (Edit: or even right
there!)
EDIT:Well, I probably can see logic in the current solution. I've quoted DiscipleOfAdun and referred to him as to the DoA in the linked post. The integrity of the post is hence intact. However I still do need to click nickname to figure out that 1) the quote is from the current thread and 2) he is the person who posted few posts above.
This is of course no way
a huge vital problem, but rather another important piece in the puzzle which makes the whole thing look cleaner and logical.

My eyes shouldn't be drawn to the stupid offline/online buttons all the time when I don't even care if the member is on or off.
Says the person with the enormous barf-coloured signature with Geocities flashing border colours.
Haha yea, indeed.

@Wormer: It'd be a good idea to show "Quote from <new>
(formerly <old>)", but that's PHP. Dev or IP'll have to do that.
Guys, when I revamp the Forum Index... should we keep the old bubbly style, or do something like this?
'Cause I've noticed a few complaints about the bubble style; figured I'd offer an alternative.
If you guys don't like that, would just the header design in that image (-----\____/-----) be fine? Because the current header design (/------\_____) is surprisingly difficult to code.
(That image is a draft I wrote up before Dev consulted me, just to see if I could do it. Ignore the purple links; that was a visited link color which has been scrapped.)

unread needs to be yellow.
Didn't someone make a nice multi quote, report, etc?
"Parliamentary inquiry, Mr. Chairman - do we have to call the Gentleman a gentleman if he's not one?"
David, I suggest a bubbly and non-bubbly. I don't mind the bubble myself.

Those look like something I'd find on a hellokitty forum.
The current epic ones have the right idea.

Yeah, someone was messing with the header image. We'll fix it tomorrow morning.

The rank icons have sucked for a long time and I think it's time for good ones.
I have made these

We also need some for Staff and GMods.

I don't know if this is doable, but maybe putting the medals under the "Rank: [whatever]" in posts that are long enough to display them. For example, if devilesk had a "Top 30 Activity" medal, it would display under the rank in the previous post.
I don't like that idea, I couldn't care less what medals someone has. If you must implement this add the option to disable it too.
