Epic Mafia

~News & End-of-Round posts~

Since only 6 members are currently signed up for AVATAR Mafia, I'm gonna start this thread up. If AVATAR Mafia begins, this will be postponed until the end.
Day One: Good Mourning
Night One: Red Skies at Night...
Day Two: Birds in the Hand...
Important update: D1 inactivity will be waived due to the snowstorm.
Night Two: Black Death
Day 3: He's Dead, General.
End-Game post...analysis of clues to follow.
Outline of clue analysis...In-Depth to follow eventually.

~Description~

[Generic storyline will be on D1 start]
Alright, most of you have already played another mafia game, whether it's Speed Mafia, SEN Mafia, or Tux's mafia. Nights follow days, lynchings occur on days whilst actions occur at night.. The game begins on a night where the host usually dies, and clues leading to the perpetrator riddle every day and night post the host makes.
Night and Day rounds will be close to 24 hours, please plan accordingly. If I can find the time to work on this, you should at least be able to say "abstain". Rounds will most likely start/stop late at night, due to my schedule. Once it becomes mathematically impossible for Town to win, Mafia wins, and once all Mafia are dead, Town wins.
The rules will be roughly the same as SEN Mafia, but the roles will be adapted from Epic Mafia. Exceptions exist; please look at the list of roles, rather than assume. There are three differences in the classic SEN version and this: Abstain counts as no vote at all (SEN classic), whereas you may now vote No Lynch, to avoid lynching completely(Epic Mafia adaption). Both count as voting :hurr:. I am also going to stress that participation is key, even if it is only "I vote for X".

IF YOU MISS TWO (2) CONSECUTIVE VOTES, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM PLAY. ALSO, IF YOU MISS TWO (2) CONSECUTIVE ACTIONS, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM PLAY. IF YOU MISS THREE (3) TOTAL VOTES AND/OR ACTIONS, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM PLAY. *exceptions include passive roles like Granny and Villagers*

In addition to this, your vote will be considered a No Lynch if you are town-aligned, or as a random.org vote against a Mafia member if you are Mafia. Yes, I am trying to force all participants to at least look like they are participating. Please don't make this mafia game be decided on a couple no lynches or abstains due to vegetation.

0 of 1 Doctor(s) remains.
0 of 1 Cop remains.
0 of 1 Insane Cop remains.
0 of 1 Vigilante remains.
1 of 1 Leader remains.
1 of 1 Bulletproof(s) remains.
1 of 1 Granny remains.

3 of 12 Town Roles remain.

3 of 3 Mafia remain.
0 of 1 Silencer(s) remain.

3 of 4 Mafia Roles remain.

~Roles~

All abilities, unless otherwise stated, refresh every night. Any actions that are not marked as (passive) must be PMed to me during the night. Please use the form " [action]: Target " or something similar. If you don't want to use an action, please use the form " no action "

-Town-Aligned Roles-

Villager -- Ordinary townsperson.
Ability = Dodge: Using their instincts, the Villager is able to protect him or herself.
[Dodge]: Grants the Villager one (1) additional night life. May be used twice, but only if the first is successful.

Doctor -- Medical personnel able to render first aid.
Ability = Heal: Being in the right place at the right time, the Doctor uses their skills to save a live.
[Heal]: Target gains one (1) additional life during the night. Bulletproof shares with his target, after absorbing attacks.?

Cop -- Officer of the law.
Ability = Investigate: The Cop uses training to discover alignment of a target.
[Investigate]: Target has his/her background checked, giving the Cop the alignment of his target.

Insane Cop -- This officer can't get a grip on things. Until the end, always appears as a regular Cop.
Ability = Investigate: The Insane Cop uses training to discover alignment of a target.
[Investigate]: Target has his/her background checked, giving the Insane Cop the opposite alignment of his target.

Vigilante -- A rogue Cop.
Ability = Attack: The Vigilante decides to take matters into his/her own hands...
[Attack]: Removes one (1) night life from target.

Leader -- The head honcho of the Town.
Ability = Shade: Just like real politicians, the Leader is not normally beneficial at all to the town (passive role).
[Shade]: Upon death, the town's disorientated enough that nobody knows who votes for whom. Maybe we have them for something after all.
Votes must be PMed to me to count! I will post a count more regularly than usual, and after the game I will post the PMs.

Bulletproof -- A regular townie with survival training.
Ability = Survive: The Bulletproof knows what he's doing, and it shows (passive).
[Survive]: The Bulletproof is a survival master, and begins the game with two (2) night lives.
Ability = Bunk: The Bulletproof spends the night with a person of his/her choice.
[Bunk]: Pooling their reserves, the Bulletproof and his target share their night lives.

Granny -- Every town has one; the old, paranoid gun owner.
Ability = Senility: The Granny has eons of experience...and target practice (passive).
[Senility]: Camped out in her "fortress", the Granny cannot be killed at night, and shoots anyone who visits her at night.

-Mafia-Aligned Roles-

Mafia -- Townsperson bent on killing.
Ability = Hit: The Mafia listens to the voices...
[Hit]: Target loses one (1) night life.

Silencer -- Using special powers of "persuasion", the Silencer makes you not want to talk. (Think beatings and other violent methods)
Ability = Hit: The Silencer listens to the voices...
[Hit]: Target loses one (1) night life.
Ability = Silence: Silencer makes target unwilling to talk.
[Silence]: Silencer's target is unable to talk during the next day, must vote via PM.

Canned Roles

-Role Footnotes-

The Bulletproof has 2 initial lives. Upon using [Bunk], he gains an additional regenerating life, and shares the target's life, for a maximum of 4 for both BP and his target. If the BP loses all but one life at any time, his totals all drop by one. If more than one Doctor attempts to heal BP, he gains only one life. If the Doctor heals the target, it does not count towards the group's total. If BP is Bunked, all shots directed at his target count towards their "group". If the BP and target's "group" lives reach 1, the Bulletproof dies.
For example: one mafia shoots BP's target, two shoot BP. Since there are a total of three attacks against the group, the BP will die but the target will not. If there was a doctor healing, the group takes 2 hits, leaving the BP with one less individual life, and one less group life.

Also, characters with more than one ability per night may use these against two different players.

Please note that, unlike Epicmafia, mafia roles may attack independent of each other.

Thanks to SEN Mods & Admins for *hopefully* allowing me to host this.
All randomization are to be done through the infamous Random.org.
Thanks to LucidRains for Epic Mafia.

I will sign up, because I haven't quite made my AVATAR mafia simple enough, and I'm unable to get on for more than 10 minute increments to edit it now that the computer I use most often got the Blue Screen of Death. :-(

Let me show you how to hump without making love.

Seeing as I brought everyone to Epic Mafia, I'll join in as well. I always preferred Watchers/Trackers and having a Cultist around though. Makes the Granny role all that more awesome.

If anything, I'd add the Cultist...but that depends on the number of signups. More players means more roles to play with ;)

Why don't we just play on EM? The only thing I don't like is that the Fool is going to be super overpowered on forum mafias, because instant wins are so easy for him because of mindless bandwagons. It's okay in EM because games go by fast, but if we're playing on a forum, it's going to be annoying.

EM > Avatar mafia

This goes first.

Sing me up, although it would've been better to play EM on...EM.com

Okay so....Silencer makes you not want to talk? hmm? Someone who is silenced has to hold himself back from making a post? eh... cool i guess... Next time do the usual setup with the bomb/granny/bullet proofs/yaks or whichever one was the usual ladder set. I liked that one.

I'm in.

There are two drawbacks to playing EpicMafia.com instead of on SEN:

1. All players must be online at the same time.

2. There are no clues/narration posts.

Win by luck, lose by skill.

Jan 29 2010, 4:05 am Neki Post #11

To say those are drawbacks are purely subjective, point #2 turns mafia into a game of behavioral analysis rather than stupid bandwagons. ;o The first may be a problem, but people are given 24 hours and they still have trouble submitting one vote/night action each day, so I think it'd be easier for people if it was done all in one go.

I'm thinking that the Fool may pose too big a risk for effective gameplay. The game could end D1 if random.org decides to screw with us. Also, mindless bandwagoning is what I was hoping to prevent with Fool role.

Quote from Cultistdescriptionget
Cultist: Leads a pseudo-religion on the outskirts of town. Cultists have a 50% chance of being revealed as either faction. Cultists win if they outnumber all other roles.
Ability = Recruit: The Cultist uses his/her influence to gain a new member.
[Recruit]: The Cult gains another member, regardless of his/her previous role. Only the lead (original) Cultist can recruit.
I'm debating on one of two things, if we do switch: if the lead Cultist dies, should there be a random drawing for new lead Cultist, or should the cult die off?
In terms of realism, the second would happen, or at least the culted would return to their previous role. However, I think that people would get bitchy and the game might lose the semblance of balance it has if three or four people died in one night. And I personally believe that the second would be favorable.

INFORMAL VOTE TIME: Replace Fool with Cultist, and then lead-cultist-dies scenario.

Dream on. :P

Also in.

I just hope you've learned from other people's past failures and will manage the game in the professional manner Voy did.

Mindless bandwagons happen in Epic Mafia all the time: "RL!" (Random Lynch)

I'm confused by your question, poison_us. What do you mean by "lead-cultist-dies scenario?"

Win by luck, lose by skill.
