One thing mentioned about the gas issue:

If you do take out the "swap minerals for gas" option in the drop-ship, and were to add another weapon, it could be something like goliaths. The gol's would have low damage (meaning having some devourers could help them out a good deal against armor), and be non-range-upgrades. The building used to build them could be the Missle Turret.

Of course, this is only if you make reloading on gas an automatic thing.

Seriously I haven't seen anyone able to override hyper trigger order... I wanna see this lol. I've seen people "dance" alot but never actually win against 12/second hyper order.
Easy :P

I can make a timer so if youre out of your "stuck" location for more than 3 seconds straight youre moved back or something like that.
You better make deselection of the unit by giving it to another player and then instantly back.

Man, I finally played this and I like the gathering minerals and pimping your plane out part, but the actual combat was pretty 'meh' to me. If I play again, I'll experiment and maybe find some more exciting weapons.

Probably, you woldn't be talking like this if you have played the first time against the real pros (at least one), like fritfrat did his first time ^^

I have a laptop, and it has a touchpad in addition to an external mouse, so I can spam-click both at the same time. :)

lol spam clicking against hypers is really easy, and it is probably the only thing in starquest im good at :P

About spam clicking: lolz.

@Wormer: I'm an idiot for not thinking of de-select. Thanks man!

@New-Guy: The problem with goliaths is your ship would have to be over terrain, so I'd probably use an air unit instead.

this was an attempt at using the physics lab.
Yeah I tried to think of a 3rd shield type or something-or-other when I was just beginning the map... couldn't really think of something that would actually be unique enough. Like I said your 2 scourge idea was good except that it would be too powerful I think.

Maybe the most realistic change to do would be to have science facility be a regular laser (bc shot) or something of that nature, and covert/physics makes it the plasma cannon and some other direct fire weapon, respectively.
However the engineering bay would mean 1 shield, unless I switched more stuff, factory and/or starport.

Edit: it might be akward to have 3 weapons going off at once if a player has SciFac, SciFac+Ops and SciFac+Lab in their ship.
But the dropship command could be called "Fire Cannons" and it would be like "Laser Cannon", "Plasma Cannon", and "(???) Cannon".

so the latest version will be the ships getting constantly switched between players?
that would work

You guys probably have lat hack if you're beating the hypers.

Aug 12 2009, 6:22 pm darksnow Post #90

its so simple to beat the hypers, bring your view to your base, then spam click the forge, and if the ship starts going back, its being ordered, so you still have time to turn it around again.
if you can spamclick fast enough, beating hypers is easy.
hypers check 12 times a second, people can click faster than that

>be faceless void >mfw I have no face

I first learnt my spamclick skills playing morrowind. I had this moneymaking strategy involving thousands of potions, and when I was making them I would put two fingers on my mouse and alternate. With SC it works pretty well.

Red classic.

"In short, their absurdities are so extreme that it is painful even to quote them."

Aug 12 2009, 7:16 pm darksnow Post #92

ehh im right handed, so my mouse is on the right side.
then i place my index and middle fingers on the button, then i alternate as fast as i can.
relaly useful spam clicking, although i know people who can do it with only 1 finger

To clarify, it would only do it when you try to move away with 0 gas. Not constantly by default whenever you has 0 gas 24/7. But constantly if your ship is not in it's frozen location with 0 gas. Unfortunately something short range like a mutalisk being shot by a BC will trigger it (unless hold position is used by the player with the mutalisk) but it doesn't really matter I think... it could just make it annoying to check your HP in the mutalisk's shoes.

Aug 12 2009, 11:45 pm darksnow Post #94

yea if its constantly switching you wouldn't be able to check your own hp, that would get annoying...

Aug 13 2009, 7:09 am Wormer Post #95

ws-Tank_7, you should make kind of threshold, when deselection activates only if the ship is being spammed and went quite far. The ship should not deselect from accidental random clicks.

Some.

Aug 13 2009, 2:34 pm Tank_7 Post #96

@Wormer: Yea, if out of location for more than 1 full second would probably work well. Then the only way it can mess up is if you get stasised during a spam, or you're spamming into the "no fly zone" at the bottom, but in either of those two cases its the spammer's fault, and the consequence is minor and as soon as you get fuel again youre good to go.

Aug 13 2009, 5:38 pm darksnow Post #97

i havn't been able to find people to play with me and it just ends up as a 1v1, so if you're out of fuel you're dead. anyone interested in playing with me?

None.

Aug 13 2009, 6:52 pm Wormer Post #98

ws-Tank_7, on stasis case make another failsafe which just moves the ship back with the force.

Truth. I myself suffer much from this.

You should consider a way for a no-fuel ship being able to move! With spam-clicking, but move. Like the civilian can move in that Marathon map, if you understand what I am talking about

Taking my words back. With some kinds of ships it is impossible I guess.
