Using in transit factory shadows one can create a nice null blend to any tileset.

using several ion cannons (i chose ions cause they do not have shadows) and el fire sprites i was able to create this wierd white blob. The most awesome part of this is that when you move your cursor or any unit over it it will change. I suppose you can create a hyperspace like effect as well as alot of others.

Unfortunately the nuke lasers were a bit camera shy, but they do look pretty damn cool. The distruption web can be used as many water related things, it actually looks like raging surf or you can even use it for a waterfall =o the twilight building is just for kicks.

You wouldnt need to use much (or any) sprites to make a waterfall using cloaked protoss buildings

I will continue experimenting with this stuff, will post more later.

*note you may have to wait a while for the buildings to turn disabled. It it theoretically possible to fasten this process with hyper triggering.

there are several uses you can put the first one in such as a canyon, transition to space, etc

in the second one you can experiment by putting various objects and see how cool they look all distorted and such.

The only problem with the first is that when you go under it you will blur, otherwise I loved it!

The second one didn't really hit me as cool, can you post a map so we can see the effect?

actually since the building is in transit and the shadow is way below it the blur is on the unwalkable null. so it shouldnt pose a problem. as for posting the map i cant because the attach doesnt work yet.

You could also use cloaked units?

yes you have to disable the buildings but you have to do it one at a time and have a detector or vision while they are being disabled.

And no you cannot use cloaked units because they lack a shadow, for the distortion i suppose you can use cloaked units but to get the same effect you will have to stack them meaning using air and seeing as air always shifts on each other its just better if you use buildings, unless if you want a really turbulent effect.

Those are some snazzy effects. I was aware of the shadow edge one, though, as I'd debated whether to use it in Rush to make that Chasm area. Of course, that woulda been a one-way ticket to CCMU errors.

they all look cool, except the second one doesn't seem to work correctly for me, from the example map

I want to see an actual waterfall made with those, although, that will look just as bad as using that sprite since buildings also disappear in fog of war.
