I understand jk, I was not jk. I want you to be in that map, at least the second version :P

Anyways I'm having trouble with creating the terrain for the starting base.. I'm tossing many things over right now. Does anyone have any ideas?

One of those huge circle floor tthings with some missile turrets and those vertical technical doodads? Some of the:

.....||
sprites too.

Might do.

Oh good idea, I like it. What vertical technical doodads are you talking about?

And also unfortunately we have to remember the story: Kerrigan comes in (somehow) and maybe goes inside a bunker to defend against guys? But for the most part it will be a very makeshift base.

I do like that though: A floor hatch surrounded by Missile Turrets (or maybe Spore Colonies) with those big spinning solar panel thingies.

You're not very close on being done.. -_-

I do like the fact that the terrain represents the units and looks just like them.

Nice work on that.

Madroc, my computer got a virus and I have to dump the hard drive. I'm still going to work on this map, (I can re-install SCMDraft) but I'll need you to send me the map again. Sucks to get infected right after I finish my assignment...

Dang, that sucks man, I'm sorry that happened to you. I'll pm you with the map.

Thanks Neptune, and no, you're right we are pretty far from being done.

I re-installed SCMDraft and got the map open. I am also scanning everything I download with Norton Antivirus to prevent another computer-mindfuck. (CPUfuck, maybe?) I should have my stuff done (again) very soon.

EDIT: Total mindfuck. Madroc, I think you explained this to me before, but I forgot. (My memory sucks.) Here is part of the PM you sent me:

Quote
Your assignment is to make it so that when the vHP unit dies (the player has at least 1 death of vHP unit), another vHP unit is created under that player's character and a random number of hero guardians (from 1-24) appears in the center person's base. Then one more hero guardian is created. All the rest are destroyed. If there is a flying building in a 3x3 location around that guardian, then there is a 1 in 4 chance that a devourer is created instead. The guardian/devourer is there long enough to attack once.

Can you please (re) explain what you meant by "in the center person's base"? What central person?

And also, what is the point of creating the 1-24 Guardians if they die immediately?

CRAP I just hit back right after I finished typing my reply. In Hotmail, they make it so that if you hit forward, then the words that you wrote pop back up, they should do that here too :P

Oh, where to start again..

Oh, I guess I forgot a word in that assignment! Oops, my bad. it's supposed to be "in the center of that person's (the person who is getting hit) base."

The reason for making 24 guardians is that Guardians (and all flying units) always attack the nearest building unless that building can attack them, so they would attack Missile Turrets, Photon Cannons, and Spore Colonies before they attack anything else, but after that they attack the closest building to them. So making a random number of guardians would make them appear in a random place in the ship because of the spiral-like way that units are created. It also means that the buildings closest to the edge are more likely to get hurt :D

Did I remember to say that there should be a 4 in 5 chance that every time a player gets hurt, the missile turrets, photon cannons, and spore colonies that player has become invincible until the Guardian goes away? I'm sorry if I didn't and I am dumb if I didn't... But include that in your assignment if it's not there already. Another thing, did I say that there should be 2 different spawning points for guardians for the carrier and battlecruiser because they are so big? If not, again I am dumb and you should include that. I sure hope I'm not forgetting anything else important, it's harder to go back and change it than it is to include it now.. If you sense anything funny, it doesn't hurt to pm me.

Okay, finally got my computer back online, fixed the firewall, etc. I am working on the assignment (for the third time!) now. It's almost done.

EDIT: I had an idea to save us a few locations by modifying the selection area. It'll look different and the triggers will be very different, but from a player's perspective it'll be the same. Should I do it? (It'll take about five minutes.)

If you don't get back to me before I finish my assignment, I'll create a copy of the map and implement my changes in the copy. Then you can see which one you prefer.

EDIT2: It turns out that my selection system was harder than I thought. I'll still do it if you want, but after I get my current assignment done.

CRAP! I just realized that if we have Valkyrie and Corsair as selectable units, and the Mutalisk which can become a Devourer, than we have three playable units that don't have heroes. Soooo... We'll have to use vHeroes, won't we?

EDIT: Sorry for the double post, pressed the reply button instead of edit by mistake.

Yes, like I said in the pm, the location saving thing would be great! I see how it could be sort of an ordeal... If you like you could simply not do it yet, see if we need more locations at the end of the map, and then do it then. I'll make a note of it under a "notes to self" thing on the first post if you decide to do it like that.

Man, I completely forgot about the hero thing! We'll need to concept something up real quick. I think the best thing to do would be to have heroes for all the just adding life to the vHP unit or something.

I'll try to think of ideas. If anyone, including you Tazz, has ideas for the vHeroes for these 3 units, by all means post the idea.

Oct 9 2008, 4:21 pm Biophysicist Post #159

I think we should just go back to our old idea of using a stronger vHP when you upgrade and granting more XP to upgraded units. The player will then have more XP to upgrade with, meaning that they will probably get stronger weapons as well. (Actually, we don't even need to upgrade the vHP units: With more XP, the player can increase the vHP's armor more as well.)

To put my thoughts into a single sentence, I think we should set it so that upgraded units get more XP, with no other benefits.

(EDIT: The Mutalisk should still gain access to Guardian/Devourer aspect. [The player should be able to do something to turn back into a Mutalisk tho, he shouldn't be stuck as a Guardian/Devourer.] Not sure if it should still gain the extra XP.)

EDIT2: In other news, I finished the vHP centering system. Now I just have to code the building-damage routine, which should be a lot easier. Expect my assignment to be completed today, madroc.)

Sorry I haven't posted in a few days, I couldn't think of something to say until now.

I dunno, you're right that the more XP would be a fine replacement for upgrade, I didn't think of that. But the whole idea behind the hero character upgrade is that it increases the rate at which the upgrade takes place, for instance instead of each upgrade granting 20, it grants 25 or 30, thus increasing your firepower substantially with the upgrade. Also the name change is a fairly substantial change from the player's standpoint. I think it's a little more exciting than just increasing the vHP unit's health and EXP gained.

As for the Corsair and Valk, I was trying to think of something for their upgrade and I thought it would be cool if it created an auto-bombing upgrade for them. How it would work is as long as there is a ground unit in a 3/3 square around them it would create a (invincible) spider mine (or if you like it better Infested Terran) every half a second or so.

As for the Muta, I have no idea except controlling a cloaked zergling or hydralisk which can go around and attack guys for you. Do you have any ideas? I'll try to think of something to edit in later..

But yeah, what do you think? I still think that the hero characters are a better idea for the reasons stated in my second paragraph although either would work. We have an extra unused protoss building so if we do decide that the hero characters are a better idea, we could have that building be the +Exp building.

Glad to hear that you're making progress on the map!
