Black Zero RPG

Tileset: Twilight
Map size: 256 x 256
Map type: RPG
Players: 2

Key Features

  • In-depth storyline
  • Able to gamble cash using the game rock-paper-scissors
  • 4 upgradable attributes (new Tech attribute!)
  • 7 tactical spells (upgradable with XP - up to 200% power growth)
  • Enemies use spells (7 types with varying power)
  • Characters have actual voices
  • Able to purchase transport/battle vehicles
  • Ambient sound loops + weather effects

Storyline

The planet has been overrun by a dangerous form of alien species. Their main agenda is to equip human society with a program called Op TIR. Through manipulation and propaganda techniques, their goal is to corrupt the planet in order to provoke Celestine's return.

Lord Celestine operates outside of the Matrix but is very aware of what's going on. He sends 2 of his most reliable soldiers (Satan & Kris) to investigate the effects of Op TIR and search for a man known as Black Zero whose research of the aliens could prove monumental.

It is Alena's job to teleport Satan and Kris into the Matrix. But at last minute, the Time Machine malfunctions and you get sent to a random destination.

Do you have what it takes to wake up in time and remember who you are and what you're doing here in order to complete your mission?

The world is in your hands.

Main Characters

Divine Powers

Celestine: The highest power in the game.
Alena: Celestine's prime assistant.
Satan: Player 1 (Zealot).
Kris: Player 2 (Dark Templar).

Enemies

TIR Corp: A science facility that specifies in genetic engineering.
Commander Nixon: Leader of the rebellious humans.
Lucia: Works for Nixon.
Vision Labs: A sub-faction of TIR Corp that gathers data.

Allies

Master Senakee: A wise old man who lives in a big castle.

New Tech System

The tech feature allows players to perform various mechanical tasks such as hacking into hostile data systems in order to steal control of robots and turrets, use special machines that grant battle bonuses and the ability to manipulate robots in combat.

1: Repair vehicle

Your vehicle (Vulture) has high HP but will need repairs after battle.

2: Vehicle upgrades

Vehicles can be upgraded to generate bombs, harvest gold and replenish mana for allies.

Attributes

Vitality: health points / status resistance
Sorcery: mana points / mana regeneration
Agility: physical shields / spell evasion
Tech: computer and hacking abilities

Spells

Spells level up the more you use them, each with a total of 5 upgrades.

Spell 1: Heal (restore 100% HP)
Spell 2: Fortify (increases armor)
Spell 3: Tech Assist (summons a robot that heals other robots and creates bombs)
Spell 4: Arcane Bolts (deals magical damage to a number of enemies)
Spell 5: Divine Power (summons Alena into battle)
Spell 6: Resist (makes you immune to spells)
Spell 7: Hack Device (take control of an enemy robot)

Oh shi- ladies and gentlemen he's back.

You know it's possible to modify command card now? You don't need overlord menu anymore.

You may like to use this new function for your RPG.

Also aliens, robots AND demons? It's like every genre in one map!

You've got some catching up to do. SC:R added an EUD emulator which allows many EUD conditions and actions to work. Many of us like to use EUD Editor 2. There may be a link somewhere with a more up to date version, this is the one I use. Oh_Man also uses EE2. A newer program, EUD Editor 3 also exists, you can find its thread in the Mapping Tools forum, I wouldn't personally recommend it, but some people prefer it.

It's a few step process, you need to download a copy of SC BW 1.16.1 or just the patch_rt.mpq, StarDat.mpq, and BrooDat.mpq files. You also need to point EE2 at your StarCraft.exe and euddraft.exe, I use version 0.9.0.9 since the latest version didn't seem to work for me and I assume it was directed more at EE3 users than EE2 users. I would upload it to my Google Drive to give you a link, but last time I tried Google fussed at me about copyright/piracy issues or something like that. I think you should be able to find a link to it in the mapping tools subforum. Also the guys in the EUD discussion group on SEN's Discord are much better versed in all this than I am, would recommend checking that out. Also check out Sayoka's EUD Documentation Thread, lots of helpful stuff here.

Okay, I found the Starcraft.exe but whenever I try to find the Euddraft.exe, I open up the folder and the .exe file is not in there. (It's currently in My Documents folder after I extracted all files.)

Check out this tutorial on how to use Ctext, a superior EUD version of Display Text Message. It is written in a way where it is also a step by step introduction to EE2 itself, so you may find it beneficial.

I recommend, if you want a general understanding of the new capabilities of EUD, to play these maps:

Spark of Ean'lu by Milestone

Outlast by Meoyap



They showcase a wide variety of the new features available for EUD.

I mean like, the .exe file actually exists, it's just that the program can't find the .exe file. I'd rather use the new version.

i use eud editor 3 its quite good when you start by learning that one.. if you dive into the eud world you surely need to be on the discord for staredit.net here you can get eud help and advises.

the edu editor 3 is more easy to start and setup i think

Welcome back!

I haven't played any SC in quite a while now, but your new map is gonna pull me back in. I never thought I'd see another MetalGear RPG map, so this is a great day. :D

Downloading it now, and once I have some time to dive into it I'll come back in here with impressions. Looking forward to it.

EDIT: Oops. Didn't notice that it wasn't available for download yet. I'll be watching this thread closely.

Update:

  • Title changed from The Insect's Revolt RPG to Black Zero RPG
  • Map is now multiplayer
  • Changed spell Reinforcements to Divine Power
  • Enhanced storyline with alternate realm
  • Started work on triggers and terrain
  • Map will not use EUDs but will use a more effective version of the old dropship system

Update:

  • Added 20 unique custom command lines for each hero (actual voices - I'm yet to employ more voice actors)
  • Thinking about having the characters engage in a rap battle after the final boss is killed
  • Added a pretty cool cinematic with mysterious info
  • Thinking of adding random conversations between characters so that each time you play you get something different

I guess there's a few. I really just want to pump this map out since it's got so many good features and ideas added into it. Also I don't know how much time it will take me to learn all this stuff or even if I'm capable of learning it at all, seems complicated. If you were making this map, what EUD features would you add? I'm still open to suggestion but it's going to take a lot to convince me.

I can see why you'd say that. But I'm confident enough that my map-making skills and ingenuity when it comes to storytelling have improved enough to create a mind-blowing classic whilst using the old systems.

I would probably just move the shuttle menu onto the command card.

Also there's more flexibility in creating spells with EUDs. And like equipping items you can change your attack from a marine's to a ghosts, etc. You can move HP up and down precisely instead of having to use the modify % method. You can do better day/night systems by modifying unit sight and overall map brightness. You can have targetable spells using cursor detection.

It basically just gives you heaps of options you never had before. Once you get into it you probably won't want to go back to classic, but I can see the unwillingness to make that jump as I had those very same thoughts for years until EE2 came out and made using EUDs so much more easier. Basically if you can use SCMDraft 2 you can use EE2.

I look forward to playing this regardless.

I agree, it was rude and not at all constructive. Also, I'm totally fine with forgoing EUD's since that means I'll be able to save.

Regardless, a new MetalGear map is big news IMO. I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread for updates. I've always loved your ambition with these RPG maps, so I'm very excited to see how this turns out.
