I'm curious as to what other people think (not hope) about what's going to happen with this site, as it seems very close to dead. Barely anything posted per day and even the shoutbox is hardly used.
None.
SEN is still very much alive and not going away anytime soon, so you don't have to worry about that.
The mapping portion is indeed not that active. Sites like SC2Mapster have a lot more activity than we do (and SEN's current servers can't support that high of a load anyway), so if you are specifically looking for prompt help for your SC2 mapping issues, it's wise to ask them both at SEN and over there at other popular SC2 mapping fansites at the same time.
For SCBW mapping though, we're pretty much the only site remaining for it. Teamliquid is focused on melee and sites like Creepcolony are basically gone.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch
I'll say six! ok no
SEN is far from being dead, is just not active as some years before, that's all.
(sooner or later activity will drop even more, so lets enjoy the site in the meanwhile
)
None.
I'll say till the day I'm drunk and randomly decide to delete all databases and change the password to something I could not remember.
Most accurate guess!
Other than that, somewhere between 2-4 years.

It has seemed "very close to dead" for years, and we're still going. The community has shrunk in size, but we definitely still get people coming in for SC1 help. As Aristo said, our SC2 portion is barren, but we do have very knowledgeable members to help on that end supposing anyone does have any questions about it.
I have no idea how long SEN is going to last, but I don't want to put a timeframe on it since I don't think it is possible to gauge. Most of our members don't make maps anymore, so SEN has really been more of a social community for some time now. I don't think that will ever go away.

SEN will last inversely with how frequently it crashes.
Wait, there are forums outside of Null?
Win by luck, lose by skill.

Once I have finished
my map, SEN has my permission to die.
Whenever devlin realises it's a waste of money
Though, even then paying like 25 bucks for the crappy service you guys have got here shouldn't be a lot and someone will volunteer to pay for it.

For a game we play less and less of each passing year, there is still a lot of love here, and, because of that, I would like to see SEN keep going for as long as it can.
I have seen far less significant websites hanging around for 15+ years. SEN's going to take their examples!
None.
The day I become a GM is the day that SEN dies
from the apparent end of the world But in all seriousness, I don't think it will be possible to know.
None.

Remember when you said you were gone for good? You keep coming back. You lied.

Let me show you how to hump without making love.

Let's not turn this into a Null thread. I think the topic has been sufficiently discussed to death.
