I donno, I hate looking at a video to learn something, it really doesn't help as much as clear pictures they zero in on what you need to know.

whoa nerdy got mooses avatar,Nice.
umm pictures are ok its just most tuts dont have them you have to READ which i hate to do, plus it sometimes gets confusing and hard to under stand. Videos, on the other hand get boring because you watch everysingle thing they do and i would want to watch a Video Tut on how to make a bound/RPG. We just need more pictures IMO. but videos are ok? :P

What we want is a staredit-integrated, interactive tutorial that can move your mouse for you when you're too lazy to figure it out for yourself. A map making macro :D .

Haha.. imagine if Tux made a macro for his 'making of Astrogears' (or any other map for that matter) :P

One main problem that one may get with a video would be the expanation of something. You would have to explain almost every tutorial as if it were being used to teach an 8 year, no offense to some of our members of that age... I would vote for detailed pictures rather than a full video but something is better than reading the full text of any tutorial page

^someone09: Yeah, Tux used a few different tools to help him in his map making, but i was talking about a macro that would make an entire map for you (while teaching you) :} heck, why not make a program to play the map for you too - you don't even have to do anything! :P Just kidding, of course.

Joshgt: I don't think so.. you *could* explain everything as if to an 8-year-old, but the video format doesn't require it. The good thing about having audio is that you can use more natural language, and more easily talk about side issues without making it too hard for the viewer to follow. Of course, good pictures do a good job too.

I like tutorials that are maps, so they use starcraft examples.

Good luck with the videos.

Quote from TartarusMkIIand my answer to you, nerdy:

www.youtube.com

My response: Dial-up users. I've often tried to show some of my friends youtube videos only to be told they were on dial-up and didn't want to wait 30 minutes to watch a 2 minute video.
[23:05] fiercesob: lol no I just went up to him and he was like "oh what are you going to do bitch!" and I just fucking grabbed him and threw him against the car and went to town on his shit
[23:06] KingXander[TCB]: went to town on his shit? does that mean you ate his ass?
[23:06] KingXander[TCB]: sorry, im not a straight up thug like fierce
[23:06] KingXander[TCB]: i don't know the lingo

lol my response to you nerdy, is that if sen users were using dial up (ok this is ignorant but i dont rly care) then they wouldnt be trying to make and share maps because their connection cant support it anyway.

I've already stated that youtube rapes the quality of your videos. I don't care how you do it, it's going to be pretty damn hard to see.

Question. Why would you willingly waste your time on a lost cause... even if you submit video's to a site like maplantis or SEN where we usually have people that answer questions or a wiki that answers questions for you, there is still people that don't bother to check wiki's, tutorials, or even the topics to see if their question is already answered... It's a waste of time to be honest.

Because people can post links to the videos and the wiki can have the videos embedded?

Making videos aren't very practical. Why make a video that might take a long time for some users to download when you can just create a nice little thread in UMS help? Plus, people better learn by experimenting rather than learning from videos that other mappers make because they learn by their own experience rather than someone else's.

moose i dont think you got it, a lot of people dont even use wiki's or use tutorials (efficiently) and they just end up in the UMS help thread repeating topics that had just been answered, it's a dying cause.

I do get what you're saying. In the case of what you're saying, why does anyone do anything? Should I just surrender and let the chips fall where they may? Fuck that, I will not simply lay down and die. If I can struggle and I believe it's worth it to struggle, then there shall be a mighty struggle. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of SEN fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day! An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of SEN comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, SEN of the West!
