TiKels -- Can you even prove correctness in a problem like that?
[2017-3-30. : 7:16 pm]
Dem0n -- TiKels
TiKels shouted: outlawpoet outlawpoet My question is if you designed an algorithm that was able to efficiently solve the traveling salesman problem but were not able to demonstrate that it always got the correct solution (without brute forcing), while being (for lack of a better word) exponentially faster... is that not a solution to an NP problem? Sorry if my understanding of NP is a little elementary
If you can't prove 100% correctness, it's not a solution.
[2017-3-30. : 7:15 pm]
TiKels -- outlawpoet
outlawpoet shouted: I'm not sure I follow your question, TiKels. If you get the correct solution every time, either your heuristic/algorithm is extremely good, extremely lucky, or your search space is tiny
outlawpoet
outlawpoet shouted: outlawpoet or you spent a fuckton of CPU time calculating it LOL. solutions are inevitable, mostly it's about time to solve

Dem0n -- l)ark_ssj9kevin
l)ark_ssj9kevin shouted: lol there's a fps cap
gotta make sure it doesn't get too out of hand. some computers may not be able to handle it!
[2017-3-30. : 7:14 pm]
l)ark_ssj9kevin -- lol there's a fps cap
[2017-3-30. : 7:14 pm]
outlawpoet -- answers to* calculations. I don't care how good your genetic algorithm is, you're not gonna solve a million city TSP without a fuckton of CPU time
[2017-3-30. : 7:12 pm]
outlawpoet -- TiKels
TiKels shouted: How do AI techniques fit into the P vs NP paradigm?
ok I think I understand your angle better now. AI doesn't magically produce answers calculations that can't be done in polynomial time, but it could come up with good heuristics for doing so
[2017-3-30. : 6:59 pm]
Ahli -- to detect a structure being under construction, we center a location on that structure type, right? then it centers on it and does not include a certain unit anymore that would be included in the center of the map, right?
[2017-3-30. : 6:58 pm]

[2017-3-30. : 6:58 pm]
Azrael -- It's about how much the UI sucks, and the developer basically says "we didnt like the old UI so we made it the way we like it, you better get used to it lol".
[2017-3-30. : 6:56 pm]
Azrael -- @Corbo, it's in a thread posted by Wing on the official SC forums.
[2017-3-30. : 6:56 pm]
Azrael -- I'm keeping it out of the actual thread, in order to preserve the integrity of the thread, so it can stay on topic (e.g. this UI needs to change), instead of being derailed by silly bickering and how some people choose to present their views.
[2017-3-30. : 6:53 pm]
Ahli -- https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/62fykj/analysis_of_118_exe/ 1.18 contains anticheat and uses opengl 3.3
[2017-3-30. : 6:52 pm]
Azrael -- I figured you deserved a direct reply, since you had the nerve to name me specifically. Stop acting like MrMeeseeks.
[2017-3-30. : 6:51 pm]
Azrael -- Trying to be nice to the developers after they effectively said "go away, we're not changing it" is not helpful to anyone, except the developers, who would love for people to stop acting upset so they can go about their business and not worry about it.
[2017-3-30. : 6:51 pm]
Corbo -- ok, now I REALLY wanna see this topic xD
[2017-3-30. : 6:50 pm]
Azrael -- It would seem I'm accurately vocalizing the feelings of many other community members.
[2017-3-30. : 6:49 pm]
Azrael -- I'm amazed you'd specifically try to state "AZRAEL'S POSTS ARE UNHELPFUL" after seeing how much support they've received.
[2017-3-30. : 6:47 pm]
Azrael -- There's a reason my posts are heavily upvoted and yours are getting downvoted.
[2017-3-30. : 6:47 pm]
Azrael -- No one is speaking on your behalf. If you don't like how I present my opinions there, fine. I'm not speaking for you though, so you don't need to try to downplay my posts.
[2017-3-30. : 6:47 pm]
Azrael -- You're starting community in-fighting for no reason, for the sake of "being nice" to a developer who already said "Nah, it's never coming back".
[2017-3-30. : 6:46 pm]
Azrael -- Calling out other users by name is immature and obviously not helpful to the community having a united effort.
[2017-3-30. : 6:46 pm]
outlawpoet -- I'm not sure I follow your question, TiKels. If you get the correct solution every time, either your heuristic/algorithm is extremely good, extremely lucky, or your search space is tiny
[2017-3-30. : 6:45 pm]
Corbo -- now I wanna read it
[2017-3-30. : 6:45 pm]
Corbo -- which thread are you all talking about lmao
[2017-3-30. : 6:45 pm]
Azrael -- Zoan, you've become counterproductive in the UI thread.
[2017-3-30. : 6:44 pm]
TiKels -- But if an algorithm gets you to the exact solution every time, even though you can't prove it does it always... is it not still a solution?
[2017-3-30. : 6:41 pm]
outlawpoet -- correct
[2017-3-30. : 6:41 pm]
TiKels -- 🤔
[2017-3-30. : 6:41 pm]
TiKels -- Like someone I know used genetic algorithms to get a good solution to the traveling salesman problem, which was able to quickly generate the answer. But you can't really verify it 100% without checking the entire solution space right?
[2017-3-30. : 6:39 pm]
TiKels -- How do AI techniques fit into the P vs NP paradigm?
[2017-3-30. : 6:13 pm]
outlawpoet -- sigsaucy
sigsaucy shouted: was there anything else i was supposed to get from that screen? everyone can play the campaign right now right?
the post was about a typo
[2017-3-30. : 6:13 pm]
sigsaucy -- was there anything else i was supposed to get from that screen? everyone can play the campaign right now right?
[2017-3-30. : 6:12 pm]
Dem0n -- Except idk how you have 158 APM in a campaign mission LMAO
[2017-3-30. : 6:12 pm]
Dem0n -- sigsaucy
sigsaucy shouted: Ahli what is the 158 for?
APM counter
[2017-3-30. : 6:08 pm]
sigsaucy -- i agreed with the person (zoan i think) who said that the new ui makes it feel like you're in a menu screen, its not homey at all, feels like you should be going somewhere, just like sc2s shtty lobby system
[2017-3-30. : 6:07 pm]
sigsaucy -- Ahli
Ahli shouted: http://imgur.com/7U85LhT from reddit :)
what is the 158 for?
[2017-3-30. : 6:06 pm]
outlawpoet -- TiKels
TiKels shouted: outlawpoet is the traveling salesman problem close-form solved yet? I know you can use AI to solve it
no, it's NP-hard. solvable but only with brute force. approximation algorithms only get within 50% of shortest distance guaranteed
[2017-3-30. : 5:58 pm]
TiKels -- Or other clever methods
[2017-3-30. : 5:58 pm]
TiKels -- outlawpoet
outlawpoet shouted: diplo is a traveling salesman problem, maybe I'll get a degree in math using starcraft as a thesis
is the traveling salesman problem close-form solved yet? I know you can use AI to solve it
[2017-3-30. : 5:54 pm]

[2017-3-30. : 5:47 pm]
Dem0n -- mfw when a UI from 1998 looks more modern than one from 2017 :<
[2017-3-30. : 5:45 pm]
Dem0n -- readable*
[2017-3-30. : 5:45 pm]
Dem0n -- The friends/channel bar is fucking gigantic for literally no reason - you could shrink it by like 2 actual inches and extend the message window and everything would still be readble
[2017-3-30. : 5:44 pm]
Dem0n -- And what's with the bright orange text for your own messages, and neon pink text for private messages? Did they base this off of a 1980s text editor with shitty color options enabled?
[2017-3-30. : 5:44 pm]
Dem0n -- I can get used to the new UI, but it's just not functional. It's both cluttered an barren at the same time, and having the message window be opaque with an obstructing background image is annoying as hel
[2017-3-30. : 5:42 pm]
Ahli -- AfaIk, they had to do compromises to merge old bnet with new bnet... the remaster and most likely the old client will use bnet2.
[2017-3-30. : 5:41 pm]
Ahli -- UI changes are fine. Problem is if they remove features or usability with it...
[2017-3-30. : 5:38 pm]
Zoan -- Letting the forum devolve into "Fuck the Devs, we are the communityyy!!!!" Is grade A let's get the Devs to never look at this forum again strats.
[2017-3-30. : 5:35 pm]
Zoan -- Literally just don't mention the Devs at all, only mention what you think needs to be changed
[2017-3-30. : 5:35 pm]
Zoan -- Yo if someone comes up like "you did this cuz you're full of yourself and you hate your community," why would I bother listening to the rest of what they have to say?
[2017-3-30. : 5:34 pm]
Corbo -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: is the 1.18 patch already out? If yes, where can I get it?
i posted a link in the datamining topic
[2017-3-30. : 5:33 pm]
Dem0n -- that's cuz ur dumb
[2017-3-30. : 5:33 pm]
Zoan -- Just read the first sentence of Azraels post though. I would disregard the rest after that.
[2017-3-30. : 5:31 pm]
Dem0n -- There's a difference between acting like an ass and giving harsh criticism. If Blizzard is even semi-professional, they'll still listen to harsh criticism.
[2017-3-30. : 5:30 pm]
Zoan -- Dem0n
Dem0n shouted: sugarcoating your posts and saying "pretty please :)" to every dev post isn't going to make them do anything
Acting like an ass isn't. Maybe I am sugar coating tho lol, good point
[2017-3-30. : 5:30 pm]
outlawpoet -- sigsaucy
sigsaucy shouted: outlawpoet i would go the starcraft ai with bwapi route if you wanted to do a thesis on starcraft
yeah I've thought about that too, trying to code an AI with triggers just feelsbadman
[2017-3-30. : 5:23 pm]
Ahli -- PTR: https://us.battle.net/forums/en/starcraft/topic/20753915707 also these are Blizz's new SCBW forums, so report bugs there
[2017-3-30. : 5:23 pm]
NudeRaider -- ptr?
[2017-3-30. : 5:22 pm]
Ahli -- only the PTR is available, afaIk
[2017-3-30. : 5:19 pm]
NudeRaider -- is the 1.18 patch already out? If yes, where can I get it?
[2017-3-30. : 5:09 pm]
Dem0n -- sugarcoating your posts and saying "pretty please :)" to every dev post isn't going to make them do anything
[2017-3-30. : 5:09 pm]
Dem0n -- Zoan quit acting like a bitch on the blizzard forums
[2017-3-30. : 5:08 pm]
sigsaucy -- outlawpoet
outlawpoet shouted: diplo is a traveling salesman problem, maybe I'll get a degree in math using starcraft as a thesis

[2017-3-30. : 5:08 pm]
Ahli -- chrome lacks a setting that allows us to un-block a download...
[2017-3-30. : 5:07 pm]
Dem0n -- Ahli
Ahli shouted: I can't download files from SEN because google says that it is harmful and blocks it...
it's been like that
[2017-3-30. : 5:07 pm]
sigsaucy -- Zoan
Zoan shouted: Oh cool sig. I'm also an undergrad doing research into nonlinear dispersive equations
thats cool, i worked on nondispersive :) i feel like ive completely forgotten everything after a year
[2017-3-30. : 4:51 pm]
