FAQ: Suspensions & Severity
|What is Severity?
Severity is something that moderators can attach to a particular moderation action (closing a topic, deleting a post, etc.) A given action can get from 1 (tiny wrong) to 5 (major offense) severity points. Severity allows moderators and administrators to better identify repeat offenders and disruptive members. It also ensures that small offenses will gradually accumulate and thereby evil deeds will not go unpunished.
You can avoid accumulating severity points by knowing and following The Rules.
How does severity go down?
A member's severity will decrease every 20 days if they are active and have less than 10 severity. Severity decay is given simultaneously with activity and only to those members earning activity points. There is no negative severity -- members with zero severity will not experience severity decay.
What happens at 10 severity?
Members with more than 10 severity will be reviewed by administration or moderators and given a mandatory general suspension. The length of said suspension will be based on many factors including the number of offenses, time period over which they were required, what the offenses were, previous history, etc. With the suspension, severity will be reset to 6.
Can I view other member's severity?
You may only view your own severity by going into your profile and clicking into the admin tab. Moderators may view every member's severity.
