Ah, the joyous bandwagoneering of Day One. :-_-:

Although I don't pretend to be an expert, this being (basically) the first time I've played Mafia, I hope to shed some light on possible clues.

Firstly, and most notably, the manner of Moose's death:

Right before the battle is about to intensify, a light appears from one of the mafia. The light goes straight through the chest of Mini Moose 2707, killing him and setting fire to a house behind him. Their mission complete, the mafia retreat back into hiding to plan the next night's attacks.

Upon waking, a shocked town tries to piece together exactly what happened. Upon examining the corpse of Mini Moose 2707, it is noted that the word "Owned" is burned through his chest. Three chunks of his flesh, presumably the middle of the "O", "e" and "d" were found as well, given that no flesh was there to support the inside part of these letters.

The tool used here is clearly an energy weapon, as evidenced by the light, so one might think that a Battlecruiser's Yamoto Gun is a safe assumption. There are, however, two major flaws with this theory:

1: There are at least two players this round (DTBK and KrayZee) whom have Battlecruiser avatars: Who would this clue apply to?

2: A Yamoto Gun blast, being an anti-structure/vehicle weapon, is, by design, thoroughly indiscriminate. It wouldn't blow a hole in Moose's chest; it would vaporise him. The carving in his chest is clearly the work of a presicion weapon: A cursory investigation shows that Greo's avatar and Echo's signature depict characters wielding energy weapons; Greo's being more suspicious, as it appears to be a lightsaber-like device.

Quick edit: The initial blast through his chest could easily have been the work of a weapon like Megaman's arm cannon, go figure.

Quick Edit 3: Just remembered something else, based off DTBK's post: |)ark_ssj9kevin's username pays homage to DBZ, which is renowned for it's characters shooting ridiculously overpowered beams of energy from their hands.

Incedintally, Echo's been the main bandwagoneer against me. Since I re-read the thread, please disregard- he was actually one of the main people AGAINST my lynching. Told you my brain shut down last night. :bleh:

In other news:

-"We are the mafia" replies the nearest mafia. Has an uncanny lack of punctuation

-On a whim, I decided to sift through the day post for capital letters; this is the result:

AM. T. A. W.

T. T. I. V. H. A. T.

T. HMM. W. WMM. W. M. H.

R. TMM. T.

U. UO. TO. T. A. T. I.
The second line herein is of particular intrest: "TT IV (4?) HAT". (Quick Edit 2: As soon as I sbmitted the post, I noticed that the two T's made a symbol not unlike PI. "Pie for Hat"?) Additionally, it contains the obligatory [MM] homages, as does the rest of the post, such as here:

The prime objective is to break the leadership. The majestic mayor's mansion sits in the middle of the town, a symbol of order. In the middle of the night, the roof of the mayor's mansion catches fire. Villagers rush in to try and evacuate the building and search for survivors.

-Finally:

"We are the mafia" replies the nearest mafia. Moose charges at the mafia and pulls the trigger. However, the shot spreads harmlessly through the air because the mafia has disappeared into the ground.

The only way I can think of that the Mafia hauled ass into the ground, without actually thinking, is that they burrowed; like Zerglings, perhaps?

It's 2 in the morning now and my brain has officially quit for the night. :bye1:

Dungeon Master

The Mafia disappeared into the the ground. Someone else posted farther up that this could have been via burrowing, I like that interpretation. It may point to Darkling and/or Hug_a_Zergling. Also, if there are foothills surrounding the town, does that mean the town is in a valley? I don't know how it would be significant, though.

Wow, nice theories HailFire. It looks like you could be seriously useful for us. Perhaps voting to lynch you may have been a bad idea....

I change my vote to Abstain.

Just here for the pie

In the middle of the night, the roof of the mayor's mansion catches fire. Villagers rush in to try and evacuate the building and search for survivors. However, the town's efforts are poorly coordinated, allowing the mafia charge in alongside the town, unknown to them. As the villagers struggle to open all the doors of the large building and investigate, the sledgehammers and tools used to break open doors are brought upon the heads of the townspersons. The combination of the burning building and the murderous infiltration kills all of the rescuers.
The alliteration of M points to MM members, but I really don't trust this clue.

ALSO: Anyone else notice the grammatical error there?

I think the going into the ground clue points to Hynk the most right now (not that it's enough to vote for him yet) Look at his sig.

Look at his post. What did he actually give us that was of substance? I had no idea that kevin's avatar related to DBZ, but maybe it does. Other than that, his megaman idea is probably the most legit. And that's nothing to go by either.

Now think about it, why is the ROOF setting on fire? It would make sense if fire was coming down from the sky, like hail, as in HailFire. I haven't seen anything better presented.

Going back to an earlier post from DTBK:

Quote
-Could "gold ... foothills" be a reference to a mafia living in California? Who lives in California? I'll be candid and admit I do.

It could... but remember, moose and a of s t would have to know that the person lived in California. They'd also have to believe that the townspeople could figure out that this mafia lived in California... and they wouldn't assume that people like you would just start saying "Hey I live in California" The chances that that is what the clue means seems really unlikely to me.

Quote
-"shots spread into the air" is actually a very strong clue at HailFire

Care to explain why? I'm not sure that I understand.

You're on the 1-game forced leave list since you were largely inactive last game.

I won't rule this one out- However, Hynk's signature depicts Mario going into the ground via pipe. It was said that the Mafia disappeared into the ground, but no references of special equipment were made.

So you'd rather just lynch me then actually take a good long look at potential clues and who they might connect to? What I gave in my post was ideas, and that's all I hope to contribute. There are more experienced Mafia players out there than I, and if they take a good look at the ideas I've presented, and something clicks in their head- particularly if it leads to the lynching of Mafia- then I'm doing my job. :-_-:

Edit: Also, kevin's avatar (to my knowledge, I haven't checked) isn't; I was referring to his name.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. The initial day post in ripe with clues, but you seem to be intently focused on this one.

1: It's entirely possible that this clue is a red herring. Doesn't fire = HailFire/lil-Inferno seem blatantly obvious? While A_of-st may be an inexperienced clue writer, I fail to believe he's that inept.

Also, DTBK mentioned in an earlier post that in a previous mafia game Moose avoided alliterations to fire when lil-Inferno was NOT mafia. I'm not accusing anyone, but this is something to take into consideration.

2: Your devotion towards eliminating me is, albiet flattering, quite suspicious.

Finally, a long shot on the "Owned' clue;

5. WoAHorde
6. NerdyTerdy

are the two wholly intact letters, in order, in Moose's chest.

Of course there isn't. That would be too obvious and he would have had to go out of his way to say it.

I looked at everyone's profile (sig/avatar/title/etc.) while constantly refering back to the day post and the clue I found on you is the best I've seen. I've taken a good lack at potential clues. I am one of the more experienced players than you, btw. I've run several games of mafia over at Maplantis my self in the past (I was hoping I wouldn't have to bring this up). Point being, I know how clues work better than most. You've offered a lot but I must say, out of all the presented choices, I think you are the best one.

I've written clues with a of s t many times before. I know how he writes clues better than most, check that, all. In fact. While I would not call him inexperienced, I would not put it by him to write that. (imo, moose wrote the majority of this set of clues anyway so this doesn't really matter)

It's possible. The fact that there are five mafia and five letters in owned makes sense. Like, Oyen, Woa, Nerdy, EzDay, and drunkennoodle could all be mafia, for instance. I'm not going to vote on that though. I'll certainly keep it in mind for later.

First day always seems to be like this. Town bandwagons around some "obvious" clue that everyone things must be right and lynch that person who turns out to be a townie. Suck to be HailFire.

Never fails, does it? Since there "aren't enough clues" at the beginning, someone picks the most blatantly obvious clue of the bunch and drives a bandwagon into the unfortunate townie in order to barrel through Day 1 and get moar clues, since, obviously "One lost townie's not going to majorly influence the outcome of the game".

Which, of course, is bullshit, particularly is the sacrificial victim ends up possesing a major town power. Only roughly a quarter of the players are even participating et al, much less in (and gods help us, intelligent) clue deciphering.

Get your acts together so we can lynch some Mafia, people. :-_-:

I agree with this wholeheartedly. Definitely not Yamato imo. But I'm still satisfied with my vote for HailFire for this round. After all, there's more than 1 Mafia.

How precise? 300-megaton-nuke precise or chopping-people's-limbs-off precise?
