I remember them talking about it on the last stream over EG and IPL's game, about how SEA players are more used to tournament lag or something.

Either way, you never know how it's going to work for dota 2.

There aren't any US teams that are remotely good at DotA.

I honestly didn't even know there were competitive DotA teams in the first place.

The top DotA team in the world was just bought/sponsored for $6.2 million USD.

The game is probably more widely competitive than SC2, just not in North America.

DotA in China is as popular as SC is in Korea.

There weren't any good US teams to begin with, and neither LoL nor HoN are more competitive than DotA. The top HoN teams would get crushed even in their own game and I'm probably better than the majority of top LoL players at DotA.

There are a few US players in the tournament, they're all playing for mostly European teams overseas.

Yep. Germany is also pretty crazy about DotA, Russia slightly, but only a fraction compared to the two. In terms of professionally, Russia has like three times the amount that the US does.

That is definitly not true. HoN and LoL have a larger community, and a large fan base then DotA could have ever achieved, so in no way does it have less competition. Granted, DotA achieved a lot being but a map stolen and modified several times on WC3. Everyone has their own story though, so onward.

HoN is different then DotA, LoL is different then DotA. DotA 2 is going to be different then DotA. In the end now, they're all also different games, and each have different strategies. I definitly believe entirely that its wrong to say that DotA players are better then LoL simply because the hero rotation is a different, and HoN now as well, since it lost its ties to DotA because of all that copyright bullshit.

All in all, you are presumably best at whatever you've played the longest. I've played LoL the longest of the three, soon to be four, and I know a do a fuckton better with it. If you've played DotA longer then other LoLers, then yeah, you're going to do better. DotA is unforgiving, and many people don't like people pub stoming every game, so they play LoL instead. Some people say LoL is the kid's version, or the easier version of DotA / HoN, but I digress, it isn't. You can't carry a team because you have all the kills.

And after all of this, I have half a mind to say DotA is the reason SC2 has so many restrictions on mapping now. That way other companies like Riot, S2, and now Valve, don't make so much money off of a map.

Do a bit of research, DotA has literally millions of active players- I believe 11 million was the download count for the last version of the map. I assure you that at any given point in time there are more people playing DotA just on GArena just on a single server than there are on HoN and LoL combined.

LoL players have horrid tendencies: no concept of lane equilibrium, no map awareness, and reliance on a get-out-of-jail free card- just to name three. Skills transfer between games, and there are far more skills that are needed to be a decent HoN player. Without fail, every person I've seen from League that picks up HoN drops in rating, even over something like a hundred games- and the average player is 1600, a full standard deviation above where you start. I picked up League and went something like 15-3 until I started running into people who all had Flash and realized that the game is a gigantic piece of shit for competitive play because of it.

DotA and HoN are 95% the same- the mechanics and game style are essentially identical; learning a new hero or two once you know most of them is simple. League is the outlier- Riot introduced tons of new concepts, some of which I like, but they're original and thus don't transfer. I can teach a DotA player the difference in game mechanics between it and HoN in about 10 minutes- I tried doing so in a car ride with a level 30 decently ranked League player and even after an hour there was plenty more to go over.

So yes, I don't expect any purely League player to be playing competitive DotA 2 for at least 6 months to a year. There are a few quality players in HoN that will be picked up by good teams but the majority of them are egotistical shits and will have no impact on the scene whatsoever.

Thats like saying you expect a CoD player to play professionally in the MLG for halo. They usually dont because there are systems that prevent it. For one, halo is all about randomly hitting with your shitty rifle, or sniping the fuck out of someone with a BR or a Sniper. In cod, every weapon can kill someone if you understand stability = power. Aiming is what you need to do, not spray. Understanding map control in CoD allows you to kill people with close range weapons. In halo, good luck getting any kills with a shotgun, unless you camp the only CQC area in the map.

They are two different games and should NOT be compared on a professional level because the one cannot teach you how to play the other any better than playing it would in the first place.

Also, if League players are so bad, how come you havent played with myself, poison, lingie, or moogle yet?

Because the game is fucking terrible. If they remove Flash I'd consider it. If you guys want to play HoN sometime I'd love to.

That strawman wasn't my argument. My argument that HoN teaches you how to play LoL far better than LoL teaches you how to play HoN. Prime example is Chu who stopped playing HoN and within a month was the top ranked LoL solo queue player. The game is not deep.

Well, we're running on another myth that flash is getting the nerf stick, but yeah, I agree to a point. HoN has more to the game, that you can more easily go to LoL, but LoL is just as competetive, and just as tactical. All you see in ladder play, is the ranged carry and a support in bottom lane, the mage in middle, someone jungling, and someone whos probably a melee or other carry in the top lane.

Not to mention, all of the good players /mostly/ got lucky, and play at the higher ratings. Sadly enough, enough dumbasses get carried up there too. Some of the good players can never get higher up though because some people are terrible, and want to lose for a laugh at lower ratings.

Thats a problem with free to play, but I'd rather it be that way.
