Lord of the Locker Room

While individual hits are probably still high given references everywhere, the irc unfortunately has no one I know left in it and the site itself, at least in the parts I am/was concerned with (graphics/audio), are unfortunately very dead. Mapster isn't really to blame for this though. Blizzard's community in general is very xenophobic about anything outside triggering and other fundamentals.

So, if this isn't a joke, I really have to wonder what the point behind all of this is. I think it bothers me because in our community we had a lot of related discussions about merging several sites, like CC and SA. The concepts were always abandoned for the same reason (dead site wants to ride semi-active site into glory and get power in the process). But since this is basically just SEN dissolving itself... I dunno. It really bothers me to see something that, even if it wasn't a big part of my history in BW modding, still had a place in BW modding, suddenly disappear. The last major element for brood war is now going to be gone, and mapster has no relationship at all to BW except people's memories. Not that there's a lot of BW activity going in, maps or mods, but I don't think people should be so willing to abandon what they do have.

As for mapster itself, AFAIK it's the only sc2 custom content site right now. CC would like to be involved but, simply put, no one goes there and they have no reason to. I have never heard of any other. So you have the advantage in that you have zero competition. But, with that considered, it's not aging very well IMO. Again, that's not really your fault, just sc2 running low on oxygen.

If anyone wants me to back up or process any BW information, be it articles or whatnot, and get it onto CC, let me know via PM or something. When SA made a new site they basically abandoned EVERYTHING they had on the old site and to this day those who remain regret that having happened.

Show them your butt, and when you do, slap it so it creates a sound akin to a chorus of screaming spider monkeys flogging a chime with cacti. Only then can you find your destiny at the tip of the shaft.

(don't see you churning out the maps either, btw)
I've actually been working on quite a few SC2 maps (have a look at the SC2 Map Production forum). I haven't finished any of them yet because I haven't had time to. I wish I had hours and hours of time to spend working on my maps like I did when SC1 was out (when I was still in middle school/high school) but unfortunately I can't do that now due to my job taking up all my time.

Well SEN had no future remaining as SEN. Given enough time Brood War mapping and modding would eventually die (some already think it has). And while, yes, SEN does have a respectable amount of members with respectable knowledge relating to SC1 mapping - what's the use? It's not as though all of a sudden everyone is going to jump 'backwards' and start playing Starcraft 1 again. Remaining 'true to SEN's roots', as in, remaining a purely Starcraft 1 site would be the death of it.

Sterner moderation of certain members', whom outright flame Blizzard constantly, would perhaps have stemmed the decline of SEN. But to be honest, with 90% of the active community being interested in nothing less than Forum Games, the Shoutbox and random LD/SD/Null topics - if a new comer were to come to this site, it would become quickly apparent that if it's Starcraft 2 modding/mapping help they wanted, they would be better off going elsewhere.

There was talk a while ago about furthering the SC2 Melee section, hosting a SEN tournament, and just an all round effort to increase activity and discussion in that section of the forums - but nothing changed.

So, on top of these issues, you have the MySQL errors - which shouldn't exist. And the downright bad design of these forums (no offense). I have mentioned it previously that the 'latest posts in our forums' is redundant. It only displays 5 threads. Whereas when you click on the 'Forums' link, there are about 25+ different sections. It's just horrible to navigate your way around unless you pay perfect attention to where you are posting at all times - and to a new member, they'll most likely just give up. Any competent forum will give each user a dedicated page where they can see a history of their posts, a list of active topics in which they have been posting, and even a list of favourited threads which will display if new unread posts have accumulated since the users last visit. But, as SEN still can't even sort out remembering users on each visit and the MySQL errors, although rarer, still exist - pfft.

The only reason I came to SEN was because I realized that Hive was a joke, riding on the limited success of wc3search. And the only reason I stayed was because of the activity people were putting into the Wiki articles. I'm only here still because of Ahli's Diablo 1 map.

So, good move DevliN. Haters gonna hate either way - at least this way a part of SEN will still exist instead of rotting away into Null.

I'd laugh so hard this is an elaborate April Fools thing. DevliN would go straight to hell for all the little raging kiddies he has spawned.

Edit: On the subject of April Fools - we were on an army camp, we used to go on two anually. One in Easter and one over Summer. The Summer one was more drill, army exercises, stripping and cleaning rifles, marching maneuvers etc... whereas the Easter one was more like adventure, so rock climbing, abseiling, white water rafting, mountain biking, paintballing etc. We arrived on the 30th of March and on the 2nd day in to the Camp we were all told to pack our bags and line up outside at 6am. We had a massive debriefing, all very formal, that the camp had been double booked and that the a regiment from the paras were arriving in half an hour for R&R, and therefore we had to tidy the camp up completely and be lined up outside to get on the minibusses in 30 minutes...

Two kids started to cry. IT was the funniest thing ever. Then the Major (who was giving this elaborate briefing) dismissed us and said happy april fools day.

I find it funny how many people are staying around just for Ahli's map.

Hmmm

If SEN really merged with sc2mapster...
it'd be interesting...
tho it probably won't change anything.

BTW, anybody noticed how the gray and orange skin is actually pretty nice? :P
