Febreeze has consistently failed to freshen my room. This is actually pretty weird, because my room's fairly clean. I don't keep anything smelly in here, I shower every morning, I don't rewear clothes, I keep things pretty clean. It's not like I take shits on the floor or anything. Yet my room smells AWFUL.

I have tried Febreeze. Tried spraying multiple bursts in every three square feet of my room, all at once. It never makes even the slightest bit of difference.

So I now have two options:
  1. Spray enough Febreeze to displace all actual air in the room.
  2. Find a better air freshener.

Anyone know any more effective air fresheners? Apparently, I need some heavy-duty shit. Adsorption-based fresheners (not a typo) are preferred because Wikipedia says they're safe. :awesome:

I welcome both continuous (plug-ins, candles, etc.) and instantaneous (aerosols, etc.) fresheners; I'll probably get one from each category. At this point, I'll try almost anything, but this smell needs to fucking DIE and I need your help to destroy it.

I order you to forgive yourself!

Just open the window in your room and an other window in your house and get the air to circulate.

Wash your bedsheets and blankets, clean the carpet with a liquid carpet cleaning machine.

Other than that, keep good ventilation (i.e. open the door and your window).

P.S. I shall critique your stories in due time.

Can't open the window -- insectophobia. I keep the door often and have a rotating vertical fan. Nothing helps.

This could work. Unfortunately, I know nothing about such machines. D:

I do think that you guys are right about air circulation, though... I think the problem could be sweat, even though I don't sweat a lot... There's a sweat-like residue on my mouse right now, and I don't want to touch it. D: Is there perhaps a way to increase circulation without opening the window and letting the dreaded furry winged monsters of death into my home? D:

The topics in MLA or my idea for the most tragic SCII map ever? Either way, thank you, good sir. :)

But then I have to dispose of them, and the phobia includes their corpses. ><

I just HAD to get a phobia of the most common life form on the planet.

You could get a window screen for your window. You could also open windows elsewhere in the house and put a fan in your room.

K. I shall check into getting a window screen.

In the meantime, if that doesn't pan out: could I have more info on your carpet cleaner solution? And does anyone know any air fresheners that are superior to Febreeze?

EDIT: A mouse cleaner would be good, too. Either my mouse has sweaty residue on it, or the odor has sank into the plastic. Either way, my mouse feels disgusting (though it's not obviously dirty). I tried wiping it with a damp cloth to no avail, leading me to believe that the odor has actually sank into the mouse or something. ><

One of these: http://www.rugdoctor.com/

You can rent them, my mom did it once and it was really cool to watch :><:

Thank you, Cecil.

List of suggestions:
  • RugDoctor (carpet cleaner) (rent)
  • Window screen (anti-bugs) + open window
  • Make the room colder and less stuffy

List of needs:
  • Air fresheners
    • Continuous (candles, adsorption-based devices, etc.)
    • Use-on-demand (aerosols, etc.)
  • Things to improve circulation without exacerbating insectophobia
  • Carpet cleaners
  • Mouse cleaners

An open window actually freshens the air. Unlike aerosols, candles and the like, which just cover one stench with another.

I order you to forgive yourself!

If I understand well, you are scared of bugs?

Just get over it. They won't kill (At least in the country I'm in) and you will just feel better if you can get over those little things.

But I can't really help much on that cause I was never scared of bugs. (I put them all over my face.)

When I was 5 years old... (I'll stop there cause I'll get severity.)

An open window also allows things that I fear worse than pain or death to fly into the room unrestrained and buzz around, tormenting me and chasing me about the room like some sick twisted demonic entity playing with its prey. :<

Though I'll still look into getting a window screen, and if I find one that seems satisfactory, I shall consider the "open window" solution.

What would make a window screen "unsatisfactory"?

Also, you're krayzee!

Window screens consist of a fine mesh that keeps bugs out, no? What's to stop an exceptionally small bug from flying through, or a land-based bug from crawling through a gap in the mesh?

None.

Aug 28 2010, 3:06 am CecilSunkure Post #17

Nothing will crawl through the mesh, and to be sure, just close your window before the light inside your room exceeds that of outside (as to attract moths and the like since they are naturally drawn to light at night).

You won't be able to see bugs that small, and just attach it properly so there's no gap in the bottom.

If I knew you, I'd want to bring a bottle of bugs and release them in your house. :awesome:

I imagine your room's atmosphere is thick...

The way I keep my room smelling clean, and pertaining a good airy vibe, is by keeping the room cold. The room is always at ~70 degrees Fahrenheit. I have an air wick in the room that sprays every 40 minutes.

I leave the window open only in the afternoons, because I'm scared of burglars.

Just make sure the air in your room isn't stuffy.

Come to think of it, yeah, that's right. My room fan sucks and my room is warm, and I get bitched at if I put the fan on an appreciable setting anyway (bills -.-), so my room is stuffy... And things always do seem to smell worse when warm...

I'll have to find ways to make my room colder. At worst, it'll solve my temperature problem; at best, it'll kill two birds with one stone, giving me a comfortable freezing fresh-smelling room.

In the meantime, though, keep the ideas coming, guys, and I do appreciate the help! :D
