wth is starcraft

I'm not even being a troll with this idea. I think Facebook has ruined my ability to operate elsewhere online. Anyways, I think it'd be neat if people could "like" forum topics or responses. Why? Because it would cut out the carbon copy "I agree" "quoted for truth" "quoted for posterity" "this is a good map" and other otherwise content lacking posts.

:D please?

Check the bottom right of each post. There's a red - and a green +. Like and Dislike.

Red classic.

Support. Though IMO we should just stick with the Karma system, make it more obvious, and allow people to set whether or not their name is displayed. (So it could display as "Karma: - 0 +" with "Karma" being a link).

Of course, this would require that the timeout between Karmas be removed, but that cooldown/timeout is useless anyway. Sure, it prevents people from "spamming" Karma, but it also makes the feature annoying to use. I've almost never seen posts with anything other than 0 Karma, because it's a pain in the ass to Karma a post with that damn cooldown!

IOW I support this, so long as we implement it as Karma, make it possible to view who Karma'd a post/topic, extend Karma to cover whole topics, and remove the annoying-ass cooldown from Karma.

EDIT:

But like would show user names, too...so it would cut down the spam posts because people feel like they're putting their name with something.

DeV or IP, can you add something similiar to the questionmark next to polls, which shows who voted what, except for karma?

The Karma's also not very obvious... Just "-" and "+"? Needs a "Karma" label.

Actually, this may be a little much to ask, but making it look like this (with another "segment" for a "(who?) link, and images for the +/-) would be ideal.

Thank you, payne! :D Enjoy not being able to karma anything ever again for the next 45 minutes.

Seriously, that cooldown needs to DIE.

I totally agree with kame. No one uses karma the way it is now.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

I want to know what posts warrant positive and negative karma, if we're going to keep that system. I apparently have 7 karma, and I have no idea why.

Relatively ancient and inactive

I have -14. I think I set a record for unglitched negative karma.

It's an interesting idea - Karma's useless right now, this might make it useful.

What a pitiful karma level, Cent. I pity you. Enjoy your present.

Yeah. So basically, Karma with names shown, and applied to topics. And ideally, no goddamn cooldown.

Aha!
And you think that kame's system will work?

It's pretty much the same.
And it is not broken.

Might add names and only maybe remove cooldown.
Cooldown is there on purpose to avoid spam-karma.

Just here for the pie

lil-Inferno and 5 other people like this.

I think it's pretty interesting, but really all karma needs right now is a big neon sign pointing towards the - and +.

You could always add a poll saying
A. I agree.
B. I disagree.

Add names, remove cooldown, and pretty it up.
Once we can track who gave how much karma we can also track abuse and act accordingly.
