wth is starcraft

Hey,

In April, the same people who did NaNoWriMo will be hosting Script Frenzy, which embodies a similar idea: you write 100 script pages (screenplay, for stage, even for television) in a month. That is mostly beside the point. I plan on writing my script based around the idea that a group of people who met online meet up in real life five or six years later, just for the hell of it. Well the only people I have to go off of are the people I have met here and the people I have met in WoW online. As for people I met online first and then met in real life later...I only have three people in mind. Only one of those experiences was pleasant.

I am looking for stories on different people you all have met online. I would like to know if you met up in real life, or if your friendship/relationship remained strictly platonic from conception to death. I would like to know how they differed online from offline. I would also like a breakdown of different ratios you may have encountered- straight:gay, female:male, domestic:international, etc. Any information you can give me would be most appreciated. By all means, change names and PM me anything you deem too private to express on the forums. Please keep in mind that I pretty much have the characters figured out. I just want to double check my assumptions about personality changes with anything you are willing to provide. I have the plot pretty much figured out, too.

Post Script: And no, I will not mail the script to you even if you ask with a cherry on top. :P

I once met DEAD for the heck of it back in Latvia. We were joking about meeting up, and since I knew his phone number, I was bored one day and called him. I said "Hi. Guess who this is." After a few seconds of silence and a bit of lulz, he replied: "Yea, I think I do." A few hours later we met up in his part of town. We went to a cafe/bar, ordered a glass of beer each and had a very pleasant conversation. Though you might think he's a total asshole, he is really a very nice person in real life. I can certainly see where his e-zeal is coming from, but you can bearly notice it in real life. He gave an impression of a very friendly, street-smart guy.

One other thing: His gestures are very descriptive. His hands are like a second language. >_<

DEAD, an asshole?
No way. DEAD is the freedom fighter!

I could meet phobos if I wanted to. El Salvador's a pretty small country :P
Let's make a deal, if you give me and phobos the script, we will meet and tell you our story. :hurr:

Falkoner and I live in the same town. I could meet him, but why would I? Plus, I hear he is Asian.

Also, Lethal_Illusion comes over for a BBQ occasionally.

He's fat and white. No offense to him.

Hmm, there's a guy in my clan who might be visiting NZ soon, but I've never met someone online and then met them IRL.

I have never met anyone from SEN in real life. The only people I've met in real life who I first knew online are from my own country, and from a site called TSR (thestudentroom.co.uk).

I have met up with people from there twice. The first time was a very impromptu thing last year where the night before some of us were talking in the shoutbox about meeting up some time and someone said 'Well, I'm in London tomorrow - is anyone else?' We agreed to meet outside a certain tube station, and then proceed to the nearest cheap bar. I didn't know any of them very well - I knew a little of their online personae: TSR is a massive website and there are certain groups - for example you have the mathematicians, the football crowd, and various cliques. I've never been a member of any of these groups, rather tending towards neutrality, but I knew a little of the people I was meeting from debates I'd participated in.

Anyway, I arrived at the station and hung inconspicuously around the exit. I saw a tall, thin, late-teen with a shock of curly brown hair and glasses heading by. I thought 'Damn, that's definitely an Internet person.' I made eye contact and I thought I recognised him, so I said hi and it turned out that he was part of the group meeting up. We went to the bar and a number of other people turned up over the next half an hour. We talked quite a bit but I wasn't particularly enthralled by the choice of conversation topics, which tended to revolve around gossip and the activities of people on TSR. I was quite ill at the time so that may have changed my experience somewhat. I stayed for a couple of hours before heading back.

My second 'meet' was late summer this year. I should mention that TSR is well-known for its 'meets'. People who subscribe to the members' features of the website meet up on a fairly regular basis and this is often organised weeks in advance. In any case, I felt like playing football (read: soccer) and there was a football meet coming up in Hyde Park. I said I would come along, so I arrived at Baker Street tube station on the day, with a bag containing my kit, and met up with a large (15+) group of people. They were mainly guys but there were a couple of girls as well. We walked together to the park and I got chatting with a few people on the way about university and the other usual stuff you talk to relative strangers about. We exchanged screennames because we couldn't put names to faces otherwise.

We played football for several hours until we were thoroughly knackered, and some of us went on to have some food and drink at a local bar. I can't really say if the people were different in real life from online, because I didn't know any of them online! They were all pleasant and interesting enough. One of the girls was someone who I had criticised and she talked to me about it, before having a (friendly) argument about her political views. All in all it was a decent experience, although I preferred the footballing aspect.

I never noticed his zeal. DEAD was an awesome person online, and I wish I'd lived in Latvia just to have met him. Or you, for that matter.

Despite living near NYC (and having potential access to Doodle, scwizard, Echo, and some other people in NYC and NJ), I've never met someone on purpose like that. The closest I've gotten was accidentally getting a project in class where we communicated over AIM, and I recognized the alias (one of the cow people, and one who I remember saying that he got into the same school I did while he was still on SEN). However, after the initial 'Hey, are you from SEN', it didn't go anywhere, and he was the archetypal weird Asian gaming nerd who was too lazy to really contribute to the project at hand. I'd like to meet some of the people at SEN, but my schedule is somewhat booked - I need to visit two colleges before January, and I effectively go to school six days a week anyway.

The sword and the faith

Never met anyone from SEN, but then again I'm not sure who's around me. I know Doktor Shotgun lives in NJ as well, though I'm not sure which part. I don't drive so no matter how close anyone in NJ/NY/PA might be, its not like I could really make an effort to visit them anyway.

Thanks guys, a lot of good information here. I do prefer longer answers that are more complete and thought out. I am especially interested in group meet ups, like the one Will described.

Except for 3 girls I met online at an online dating site back in 2005, I have never met someone in person that I first met online (unless emails count).

Que Sera, Sera.

I met a girl online from washington, we had a 'relationship', she flew out her for some days for vacation, had a great time. There's more to it but that's the short of it.

I haven't met anyone on sen in real life yet but if i had the chance i would, there are a couple I'd like to meet.

I met Heinermann when I was in grade 9, and we saw each other a few times while we were both still in highschool. Strictly plutonic, no homo. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

When we hung out it'd basically be sitting around eating, or playing video games.

I almost met Doodle recently, but was stopped due to the fact that the Ontario drivers license testing people have been on strike for about 4 months.

Also, I'm a junior in high school right now, so I would be going in two years.
