Uh, you realize that heroes inherently stack more physical armor than magic armor? Most heroes will have like, 4 magic armor at most, and Harkon will eat through that easily. While most people can have upwards of +15 physical armor. That's like saying "WHY BUY CRITS? IT'S COUNTERED BY ANY HERO WITH PHYSICAL ARMOR? ACTUALLY, WHY BUY ANY ITEMS THAT DO DAMAGE, COUNTERED BY ARMOR." It's a stupid argument, people have much less magic armor than physical armor. Harkons > Riftshards, in my opinion, unless they are very magic armor heavy. Also, what if puppet has magic armor? You reduce it, you do more damage to the puppet. I would rather rely on straight dps from a Harkon's than a 16% chance of getting a crit from Riftshards.
the puppet for ULT DOES have magic armor, and no physical armor, which basically means it's still more worth it to do physical damage to it.
And the damage done to the puppet is the damage transferred, after armor, not before, so its not like, you attack the puppet for 200 damage, do 185 damage to the puppet due to magic armor but still do 400 damage to your opponent.
and also, it's a 25% chance with fully upgraded riftshards, meaning you have a 25% chance on every passive to do the 4.8x crit, which can easily be 1300. Add the ult in there, and it gets messy for enemies.
the ult alos automatically does magic damage to the opponent, and works strangely. If you hit the puppet for more than its hp, it still does that amount you would have done to it to the opponent. SO it's better to kill it in 1 hit and go over its hp by 1000 than hit it for 5 hits and just do its hp in damage.
here's my calculation for 5 shots against an opponent with 5 magic armor (25% reduction) and a 40% physical damage reduction, with a puppet doing a flat 300 dmg (btw riftshards also increases damage.)
Harkons: 1st: 225; 2nd, 300; 3rd, 300; 4th, 300; 5th, 600. Total, 1725 magic damage, for the low, low cost of 500 mana ( 100 per hit i believe )
Riftshards: 1st: 180; 2nd, 180; 3rd, 180; 4th, 420 (25% chance: it's wrong in the item database i believe); 5th, 360, 25% chance of doing 1000 dmg. So, it's basically either 1325something or 2000. And that's just considering if it only hits one of those crits.
Either way, i'm not truly gonna say that Riftshards is better, i'm just saying now that either is a viable choice. I, however, choose riftshards.
