That was just a random link with both "grim reaper" and "slashing".

A reaper is a harvester, someone who reaps, that is, someone who cuts and gathers crops after they are grown. (wikipedia i love you!)

keen observation captain obvious, can i get another? no seriously that was just dumb. Reaper, with no regards to it's placement in the phrase, means to cut(harvesting specifically)... He carries the scythe not to guide them back, but to harvest the soul(in other words, cut).

It's not that literal in the collecting souls, but it is in this case where CoB slashed moose.
