what shield effect are you guys talking about?

None.

Jun 17 2009, 5:22 am scwizard Post #22

Concept is eh. EUDs are basic. Effect is pretty nice.

It's also bugged. If your shields run out and you try and turn them back on (after regenerating to 50 gas) it doesn't work. It says shields are on, but then you attack them and then die cause the shields don't activate.

EDIT:
How it works:
Damage done is detected using EUDs. This is done by checking for each value of hp (since you can't countoff EUDs) so it's useless in an actual RPG. The marine only has 10 hp you see...

The damage is then subtracted from gas yada yada.

Shield effect is observers being attacked by corsairs in the corner, then being moved over.

While shields are up health is regenerated to full, which is silly of course. This allows you to get hurt, a bunch, then activate shields.

The only thing I didn't know is how he was hiding the hp. It turns out if you set shields to 10000 hp is hidden.

Oh yeah, one more thing, the map doesn't have hyper triggers lol.

DK is right here in this case, nothing to see here move along.

Well, the only thing I liked was the fact that you made the shield animation come up. That's what I was talking about.

That's a lie, because actually try getting hurt to 8 or 9 HP, then turning on shields. Please don't bullshit people. I was too lazy to do the triggers for 1 2 3 4 5 6 7. It could easily be done. Fuck it, you guys dont understand the potential.

Back* from the grave

In another topic I described this system as such:
Quote from poison_us
Pigy_G's idea was in another thread...it's how his shields will go all the way down/wait until they are turned off, then have to get back up to 50% before they can be switched back on, using EUDs. While the shield is down and the unit takes no damage, the shields regenerate, until they can be turned back on. While off, the unit [which usually doesn't have shields normally] takes regular damage.

It's very much like Halo's shield system, in that it regenerates after a small amount of time after taking damage, and it doesn't regen as you take damage.

Hopefully I explained it decently well...but if not, hopefully you can find better info in the actual thread, where it was shot down.
Yes, that link leads back here. Yes, I boiled down everything said about this.
No, I don't expect this to change anyone's understanding of the matter.

I still think this is pretty basic stuff....
He's gonna need better ideas for them to be taken seriously, in addition to the attitude adjustment.

Let's sum this up.

Yes, the concept is worthwhile, but it has been done before. Notably in Korean maps.
Yes, it has potential, but EUDs are tiresome, and patches often change variables and such.
The actual shield system itself is useful. Yes.
The actual effects have been done. Yes.

Relax. Pigy, if they don't understand the concept, further explain it.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

If Pigy can't handle the criticism, that's his problem. No need to have multiple people post to point that out so harshly. I'm tired of deleting and editing posts in this thread.

Stay on topic. If you have more to say about this idea, fine. If not, I'm closing this.

EUDs don't work on macs. Or they require a different offset, i'm not sure which.

Red classic.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Yeah, pretty much nothing special works on a Mac (EUDs, Mods, any players over 8, etc.).

No, I mean like all the fun tricks that require much higher players than that (to get the weird map effects or 2x/4x/8x map speeds). These will instantly crash SC on a Mac.
