Just wondering how you might take segments out of a song, like little clips of music from a long song, Any programs for this? Thx.

Most audio editors can do this, I use Audacity. You'll have to download the lame mp3 dll if you want to save it as something other than ogg or wav though(can open mp3s fine though).

Sound Recorder

:D I had used this beforehand to compress music but I didn't know it could do that! Thanks.

I say Audacity as well. It is my favorite.

Its my favorite as well... however, it has some limitations. I'm sure you can buy a really good sound editor for 20 dollars.

I use sound recorder too. I've been using it for all my .wav files. I can make pretty good loops with it too. I forgot how to compress it though. (or the steps to compress it.) Recently I've been using a windows 97 and i can only use sound recorder

You could use Audacity.

Or, if you arrr like that, you could acquire a copy of Sony Soundforge.

Relatively ancient and inactive

Find the length of the entire piece, and the area which you want to keep. Open the file in notepad and delete from the top/bottom in the same ratio as the time of the segment to the whole thing. This won't work with MIDI files, though, because those actually have music recorded differently, by instrument or sound group. Only with MP3, I think. :D
