Well yes, this is on my list for black friday. Which is the best surround system? I have a 52" T.V. and it lacks BluRay and a surround system
I know Bose is good, but is it the best? My budget is 1k. Size doesn't matter, but I prefer smaller.
On the BluRay, should I just go ahead and get a PS3 for the BluRay? Or buy a 5 disk BluRay player?
Yes get the PS3 for the bluray, but surround systems Im not so sure ;o

Just get a bose. They kick ass.

BluRay players should be cheaper than a ps3 now, so really you just have to decide whether you want a ps3 or not and it's worth the difference of the player and the system. If you want a ps3, it's cost effective to just get it.
As far as sound systems, I hear Bose is overrated trash. I'm really happy with my Klipsch system.
As far as a 5 player br player... why... just why...
None.
I like to watch 5 movies back to back without getting up off the couch, don't you?
tits
A good subwoofer is extremely important for all types of sound. It makes a huge fucking difference.
You'll definitely want a good one especially for music and gaming.
You can change the volume of the sub woofer however you want (lowpass, overall volume, etc) anytime if you're worried about too much bass.
As far as erm... speaker bars or whatever the hell, I would assume no (this is how bose got started, "5.1 surround without 5 speakers", is it not?). You can't really mimic sound point of origins. Theaters have what, 14+ speakers?
You'll easily spend $500 for a very low tier decent surround system.

You can. A theater can't.
It's all about timing the sound signal to reach your ears at the right time with the right volume. Ears are only stereo after all, so you can definitely mimic everything as realistic as if you were at the played scene.
The requirements, however, are pretty steep. You have to measure the sound properties of your room and place your speakers at exact spots and there's only 1 place in the room you may sit to have the perfect experience. (This is the reason why theaters can't use it. People don't sit at one exact spot.) Even if you add or move furniture the room's acoustics change and the experience becomes imperfect.
But when you're done your experience will be better than with any surround system.
Nevertheless I admit if you're not audiophile just get a surround system...
I'm not convinced.
At the very least, it can't be nearly as good as a real system.
None.
