Players: 1-3 vs 1-3 (Full game recommended)
Size: 64x64
Titlest: Twlight
Percent Complete: 40%


Story:
Not much of an elaborate story here. But for those who havent played FFX wouldnt know.
Tidus used to play for a team called the "Zanarkand Abes" back before he went though sins time warp. This game is a battle between Tidus' Abes, and Wakkas Aurochs.


Gameplay:
When the game begins, you must hotkey the overlord that is present after the opening credits. (they're not long, jsut an intro to the map)
If you fail to hotkey, you wil be give an option to still do it later in the game, however, without the hotkey, you will not be able to pass the ball.

Blitzball is a mix between polo, soccer and football. Its played underwater in a large sphere. The game is simple, get the ball to the otherside and score a goal. But be careful, as the opposing team is able to tackle (kill) you and steal the ball.

Each should have 1 player who plays goalie, as the goalie is very helpful in stopping the ball. The goalie is allowed to roam, but they're the only ones who can stop a ball.

Each player is given a choice of units to use.
As of now, there are:
1)Goal Keeper
2)Berserker
3)Blitzer
4)Sweeper

5)Ball Carrier


1) Goalie is an Archon. It is the only one who can block a shot. He is a power house if the shooter gets too close.

2) Berserker is armed with the ability to to use his "Berserk" ability (stim pack). It is a Firebat unit. When berserked, he will run faster and attack very quickly to the guy to with the ball. Every 2 minutes, the berserker will heal his life back so he may use berserk again. He has 3 charges to use per 2 minutes.

3) Blitzer is a Zerling. I haven't yet thought up an ability for him to use [using burrow]. I am open to suggestions tho. He is faster than the guy with the ball, but the trade off for speed is that he has low damage and would take about 4 hits to steal the ball as opposed to the other players.

4) Sweeper is Infested Kerrigan. She has the spell "Ensnare" which will slow down the oppoent breifly, also her damage is high, as she is much slower than the ball carrier. She can only cast it every so often, so wise use of this spell is a must.

5) Ball Carrier is Fenix zealot. His life matchs your own level as you pick up the ball and become a carrier. He has a base life of 300 and each level after that, he gets 50 life. He cant attack any other players, as they are invincible and he has no damage. All he can do is run pass and shoot. To pass you must use the hotkey we talked about eariler.

The player must bring the Ball Carrier to one of the blocks on the otherside to make a shot. And believe me, so far my testing has shown that there is actually a way to score most of the time, even if the goalie does clearly more damage than the shot gives. So it also requires the goalie to be attentive.

Every 2 levels a unit gains gives a higher level shot to the player. So far all i've planed for is 20 levels, though i might include more. Players get points when they intercept the ball, pick up the ball, attempt to score, actually do score, or tackle another player. Also they gain points for the duration they're holding the ball.

Picking up the ball is much like the map dodgeball where you walk up to it and switch units.

I'm still debating about what other things that players can purchase. Maybe like specialty shots. Im lookin for peoples input on this.


Trigger Systems:
This map is obviously going to use numorous trigger systems.

Among them:
-Leveling System (Using Binary Countoff)
-Hotkey Dropship passing
-Sprite Unit Stacking (Due to limited space)
-Shooting the ball
-A random Blitzoff generator. [Who gets possession of ball first]
-Extra Spells paid with your own points.
-Full size pylon based scoreboards

Terrain

The terrian is very basic square tileing. The bottom has been cut short to allow for asthetics. There is the arena, then above that is the selection field for upgrades and selecting units and such. On the top right and left are 2 pylon score boards.

Hear me Raor!!

I use to love playing blitzball, It should be actually a simple map to make because even in the game it was mostly trigger based anyways i mean you moved but not that much. If i can rember right you had a certain number of spaces you could go.

One thing though: The word Blitzball on your map, It looks very sloppy if you are going to write a word you have to make it clear at pretty, because thats the first thing you see and if it does not look pretty people will think the map sucks, even if it does not.

this map is going to be a bit different that then game was in ffx though

its not going to be turned based; that would be really hard to have a good system for that. however, some of the same principals that were in blitzball are in here. such as u can tackle another player who has the ball. the goalie only really 1 chance to block the ball to the goal cause of the balllife:goaliedmg ratio, though every shot is blockable.

Plus this map has some of the shots from ffx, like the jecht shot, sphere shot. im also going to try to implement some kind of powerups for the goalie, like supergoalie and grip gloves, though im not sure how that will work. Im still tryin to think of other spells too. maybe somthing like nap pass

about the title, im not sure what i should do with it, just having it say Blitzball in the pregame area is kinda boring in my opinon. especially since theres only about 5 colors to choose from, and we cant text stack any more. What would u do with it? like if u have it say just "Blitzball" then what colors and such would u use on it, or how would you make it look more professional?

I don't know toothfairy it would be very simple to make it exacly how it is in the game....

And with the blitzball it can say blitzball, just it looks very sloppy like you did it in 2 minutes, i found if you are not really an artist making block letters work well and then put some kinda of differnt color tile on the back of each letter kinda gives it a 3D look

Yeah well ill change that, or maybe use some kind of picture mapper for it

And i dont think very many non-ffx players would enjoy the turn based attacks, but thats why i posted here; to get public opinon. I could still implement that system tho, as i havent done a lot of the triggering for some things yet.

when they go into the turn battle, would you have them in an all out brawl, or actually taking turns hitting?

I actually made a Blitzball map a long time ago. It was quickly made and not nearly as complicated as yours. I still had fun playing it though.

I'll upload it here, maybe it can give you some ideas with how to steal balls and what not.

I've been thinking about the gameplay thing, but what would u think this

Each time a player tries to intercept, or tackle, all the players within a small radius, will go off to the side, and there will be a minigame they have to beat the other guy at. that would make it kinda interesting

thats just a thought tho, im not sure if i even wanna do the turn based thing yet

That might work....I can't even rmber how to play blitzball lol.... All i rember there were stats like 20 and if you went after a 24... you would get screwed... OR was it like a big number and when you moved it went down and when members attacked it went down too until there was someone with a higher number?

in ffx blitzball, theres;

HP - it decreases as you hold the ball longer

ATK - its ur strength compared to other guys

SH - Shoot, has to be > than goalies block

CH - catch must be higher than the persons pass, or the persons shot to steal it

theres another one i know but i foget it

Im trying to implemet all these into my map

HP - i think im going to give each unit X amount of gas per level, and every time they have the ball, it steadily decreases, but when they level up, it ofc resets to the next amount

ATK - this is obvious, its your attack damage. though i may change this if i do turn based attacks

SH - this goes off the players level

CH - its the goalies dmg will be the chance to block it; for the players, if they bring one unit to the ball while its being passed, they will be a 66% chance to catch it (though this may change too)

each unit has its own unique abilities. theres not a large varitey in ffx, so i kinda got creative with this. though idk waht to use for the zergling still.

a mini game to the side seems kind of lame, but the only way to do it in blitzball :S. remember to put special shots and special tackles and special passes in the game. there used to be a blitzball guide on everything. you should check it out

For the amount of points you have, such as tackle or pass, should be like buying units and stuff to go and battle, being like a micro war. and is this going to be a 2 player game or a 6 player, (or 4, but that seems a little wierd).

This idea sounds great, I would love to see this game in a beta or a finished. If I can help in anyway possible, just message me. Ive got a little mapmaking skills, but not as good as everyone else on this forum
