World of Starcraft IV!!!
Whole year.
That's 50-odd weekends (100+ days/~3 months) + vacation time.
If you can't make a decent map within that time, you suck.

I'm in. Map's called Left-2-Die
Ok thanks kaias. I didnt check forum in time, I got in touch with cafg on bnet first. I see it got here anyways, so enjoy it and good luck everyone. Oh, and I thought I had 850 minerals but I only had 680ish and after that stupid transfer fee only 650 made it through, so whatever.

I suppose I'm "in", if you still want anybody. Project really undecided, but I'm working on some systems.
UNTITLED LIKELY NEVER TO HAPPEN RPG

I love your title. It's... catchy, really caught my eye. Sounds like a Mission Impossible themed RPG. But yes ofcourse they still want people for the tournament. The more entries equals the more competition, the more entries shows how much the SC community is alive. Hopefully by the time this tournament is done SC2 is out... /crosses fingers

Thats very unlikely haha. =P

Consider me a participant! My map is called Justice Squad however it will probably be changed later on. Also I think an entire year for this competition is ridiculous. 6 months tops would be fine...

Updated.
These are the teams with projects still unnamed- having a name already is in no way required (especially considering I'm on the same boat), this is just a reminder that if you've come up with one it'd be great to get it to us.

My map's called Fallen Angel RPG.

Specifications
Entries must be classified as RPGs
BTW, how far are we streching the term "RPG" for this contest?
An elaboration would be helpful.
I think the lack of one or at least extreme leeway would be beneficial. This is probably one of the last SC mapping competitions we'll have so we shouldn't be putting limitations on the last map we might be making. triggers limit us enough.
Well said & Agreed. Even though my map follows traditional RPG elements.

I still haven't got an answer about entering with an AoS.

I can has answer plz? Kthxbai

It is intended to be interpreted leniently, although I think some parameters are necessary to set in order. I had intended on drawing up a loose definition on the matter with Lethal, however, nothing seemed to work quite right or set the right boundaries.
Things like experience, upgrading, and leveling don't define an rpg, many (if not most) defense maps include all these elements and many great rpgs don't have them at all. I think it is a ridiculous to automatically place maps with elements like these within the confines of the rpg genre. Eventually the only annexation to the role-playing specification that Lethal and I decided to give is that it must be
a story-driven map. That is where Crash/Xmen rpgs fail, they provide a quick setting and a nonsensical objective; there is nothing in between and nothing else driving the provided setting forward and expanding it; the action in between is meaningless and near directionless.

In the traditional definition of an AoS, I would have to say that, no, it isn't classified as an rpg. However, if you can actively implement a story into a role-playing AoS, then go for it.
That is my statement in the matter. Keep in mind though, that I am not the ultimate judge on the maps- if people only see it partially qualifying from their vantage, you cannot expect them to vote it as best rpg.

So that means that Build-A-Ship Workshop wouldn't be allowed here. Damn.

Wiki says this:
A role-playing game (RPG; often roleplaying game) is a game in which the participants assume the roles of fictional characters. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, players have the freedom to improvise; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the game.
but I would say it is quite away from what everyone understands under a rpg

Yeah unfortunately BASW is not about story almost at all. I would say let's try to make characters and stuff but I think if BASW is not allowed I would rather just quit the contest because making characters means requiring commitment which would make the map a bit less fun imo.
Then again it could be extremely awesome, especially if we used ground units instead, like a goliath, a siege tank, um a hydra, a dragoon, an archon, and say an ultralisk.
What do you think tazz?

OMG it's not that hard of that big of a deal!
I can add a story if you stick my name on it.
