SEN SURVIVOR RETURNS!

That's right, SEN's most popular forum game before SEN Mafia is back and better than ever. It's been a long hiatus, with a few unsuccessful attempts at restarting the game in the mean time, but Season 7 will prove to be the best season ever.

The premise is simple: Be the last man standing. Contestants are eliminated by voting in polls, as well as special voting powers that are given to contestants that are still in the game. The contestant with the most votes at the end of each round is eliminated. However, strict self-interest is not the only goal. In order to win, you will also have to use teamwork to increase your odds of winning. The contestants will be divided into 2 opposing tribes. The tribes will compete against each other at the start of each round for an immunity prize. The tribe that wins secures immunity from voting for their entire tribe, while the other tribe will end up losing a member. The game ends when one tribe has been completely eliminated. The remaining players in the victorious tribe will evenly divide the jackpot.

JACKPOT AMOUNT: 2,500 Minerals (donations welcome)

In the past, I allowed specific slot numbers or tribal affiliation to be selected by the players. However, for fairness' sake, I will be assigning contestants to the two tribes at random (using random.org) once we have 20 sign-ups. Sign up is 10 minerals. I will add your name once I have the minerals.

The current mini-game model is not set in stone. I would appreciate having a co-host that can help me think up some fun mini-games. Selection of a co-host is strictly up to me, so please prove yourself and the integrity of your ideas first. Hosts (i.e., me) and co-hosts cannot be contestants in the game.

Co-host: Hitok1r1

The sign-ups are closed and the tribes have been determined. Here they are:

TRIBE A

1. Nuderaider
2. Ahli
3. stickynote
4. Mayor
5. deathman101
6. madroc
7. Dark_Marine
8. JaFF
9. Krayzee
10. Dapperdan

TRIBE B

1. Corbo
2. Darkling
3. Zycorax
4. Killer_Kow
5. Centreri
6. DeVouReR
7. l)ark_ssj9kevin
8. WoAHorde
9. Echo
10. FlyingHat

Here are the rules as best I can remember them from Season 5. I've reworked the drop-out rule to prevent exploitation, as was famously done in the second half of Season 5. Please point out any discrepancies you think you see. Suggestions are welcome.

TRIBES AND BASIC RULES

- There will be two tribes consisting of 10 contestants each.
- Contestants are eliminated by being voted out of the game (the most votes in a round = elimination).
- Voting is done via poll. A new poll is created for each tribe for each round.
- There is a 10 mineral sign-up fee, which is non-refundable once the game has started.
- The game will last until one tribe has lost all of its contestants. The remaining members of the victorious tribe will evenly divide the mineral prize.
- In the event that a person is banned from SEN or voluntarily drops out, then the poll will be remade and all votes reset, but the round will continue until someone is voted out of a tribe.
- In the event there is only one person in each of the tribes, then a Special Final Round will be created and the person with the least votes at the end of that round is the winner.

ROUNDS

- Only one member will be voted out of each tribe (that has a poll topic created for them) for each round.
- A round lasts up to 4 days. 24 hours allowed for mini-games, 3 days for voting in the polls.
- In the event of a tie between two or more contestants in the same tribe, a separate poll is made with only the tying contestants.
- Tie breaker rounds last 24 hours.

IMMUNITY

- Tribes will have the chance to win immunity. A tribe that is immune will not have a poll created for them in a round, thereby protecting all members for a single round.
- Only one tribe shall be immune at a time.
- Immunity is attained by winning a mini-game.
- In the event neither tribe wins, both tribes will have polls created for them.
- A tribe shall not be immune more than three times in a row. After three, there will be no mini-game for that round and both tribes will have polls created.

MINI-GAMES

- The first type of mini-game, as well as the mini-game played in the event that neither tribe wins the prior one, is determined randomly. After that, the tribe that lost the previous mini-game selects the nature of the next.
- There are three types of mini-games:
1) Starcraft challenge. There are two subcategories: The first is a simple melee game between a member of each tribe. The victor secures immunity for their tribe. The second is a speed demon challenge. A contestant must beat a single-player mission within a certain time limit. In both cases, a replay must be posted as proof.
2) Trivia challenge. The game host asks a trivia question. The first contestant to correctly answer secures immunity for their tribe.
3) Audience participation. A non-contestant decides which tribe shall be immune for a round.
- In the event of a tie between leading Challenge suggestions, I will randomly determine the challenge from among the leads.

VOTING

- Each vote in a poll counts as a single vote towards a contestant.
- Tribe members have the chance to help or harm each other by using special votes.
- A special vote is only valid if a contestant posts in the appropriate thread (example: I want to remove a vote/add a vote for [CONTESTANT]}
- A contestant has the power to remove a single vote from a contestant that belongs to the same tribe as they do. This is only allowed if they make a post about it in their tribe's poll topic.
- A contestant has the power to add an extra vote to a contestant in an enemy tribe by posting in their opponent's poll topic.
- A contestant has the power to add two extra votes against their own tribe members by posting in their tribe's poll topic.
- A contestant shall only use ONE kind of special vote per round.
- Special voting does not apply in tie-breaker rounds or the Final Round, if there is one.

A diagram to clarify special voting:
[attach=2280]

FINAL ROUND

- The final round commences when one (or both) tribes has been reduced to a single member.
- The last contestant in the losing tribe gets to eliminate one contestant of their choice from the victorious tribe to avenge their fallen allies.
- The final poll will be the surviving members from the victorious tribe and the lone survivor of the losing tribe.
- After the final elimination, the remaining contestants take home an equal portion of the jackpot.
- In the event that both tribes are down to one member at the same time, then the round will forgo the selection of an automatic elimination and go straight to the final poll.
- No special voting in the final round.

This is not required reading, but I found this in one of my folders and thought some of you might be interested. I updated it a little.

HISTORY OF SEN SURVIVOR

Season: 1
Hosts: Kame & Doodan
Prize: Nothing
Winner: Lisk
Duration: September 11, 2005 - December 28, 2005

On September 11 2005, Kame came up with the idea to make a Survivor based game using SEN's members as contestants. Over a few days, 32 members signed up. On September 21, Kame divided the entrees into 2 polls for the first round. Since SEN would not allow there to be more than 20 options in a poll, two polls had to be created to accommodate everyone. Strangely, one poll had 15 contestants and the other had 17. In another odd occurrence, my name was in both polls. A contestant would be eliminated from each poll per round until there was few enough to have a single poll.

The rules were simple: The person with the most votes was evicted in that round, and then another poll was made. It would continue that way until there was one person left. There was no prize. Pure popularity contest. ;p

The game proved to be fairly popular, with nearly 50 votes made in each poll. However, SEN politics (mainly Yoshi's resignation from SEN and the aftermath) and Kame's personal life would lead her to drop the game. I thought the idea was kinda interesting and I wanted to see how the game might end.

On October 10, I PM'd Kame and asked her if I could take over. She didn't care. So I continued the game. To make up for the month long hiatus, I decided to drop the 2 most voted for people in each poll, and I also did some slight rearranging so that both polls had even numbers of members. I also shortened the length of the rounds from one week to three days. To show their gratitude for bringing back the game, the SEN populace made sure I was voted off right away. ~.~

On October 29, a new rule was sort of "forced in." Around that time, Slyence got himself perma-suspended for acting crazy. DTBK decided to remove him from the Survivor poll, feeling that a member that could no longer visit the site did not deserve to remain in the game. I wasn't quite sure what to do about the uneven number of contestants in the 2 polls, but a suggestion from Kaboomhahahein helped me come up with a new rule: If a person is either banned or drops out voluntarily, the poll will be closed, so as not to create an uneven number of contestants while the game still consisted of 2 polls.

On November 4, the first great rivalry occurred between contestants. For the entire round, it was a close match between Ultimo and Ninebreaker. Both of them tried to rally support to save themselves. The first accusations of poll rigging and conspiracies began to occur. In the end, Ultimo lost to Ninebreaker by one vote.

11/28/05 - 12/22/05: SEN Survivor's first public enemy emerged. For some reason, an effort mounted during the last round in November to remove Hitok1r1 from the poll. However, it proved unsuccessful. Interestingly, a split occurred between voters: Those that favored Hitok1r1's eviction, and those who did not. After several rounds of evading defeat, Hitok1r1 was eventually beaten, leaving only 3 contestants in the game.

December 23: The first appearance of the RAWRZ!!! ^_^ Monster (a reference from Moose's Probert the Probe series). Apparently, BeeR_KeG added the Monster the list of contestants as a joke. The Monster always had negative votes. Some were annoyed, but most thought it was kinda funny to have a spoof contestant.

December 28: From the beginning, Lisk had quietly declared he would win. On this day, after narrowly beating Internecivus (aka Xeno), Lisk won the first season. There wasn't much in the way of rewards. He got a nice, shiny picture of a trophy from Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, and did not have to pay the entry fee for the next season, when it was introduced.

Season: 2
Host: Doodan
Prize: 1,500 minerals
Winner: FatalException
Duration: December 29. 2005 - March 29, 2006

The game proved quite popular, and I decided to host the next game while the iron was still hot. Also, due to the infamous "nuclearrabbit death" that was going on at the time, site traffic was unusually high. I made a new sign up thread. This time, there would be an entry fee of 20 minerals per contestant, and a 1500 mineral grand prize for the winner. I also smoothed out some of the basic rules of the last season. In all, forty people signed up (divided into 2 polls of 20).

I was voted off in the first round. ='(

At some point, KrAzY started a "hit list", and passed it around to 10 or 12 other members. The list detailed which people would be voted off and in what order. It was mostly successful, from what I recall.

Of course, there was the usual accusations of poll rigging and what-not, especially when a more controversial member failed to be voted off. But there was no repeat of a contestant being as long-lived and controversial as was the case with Hitok1r1 this season.

FatalException beat Urmom by a single vote in the final round, and won the 1500 minerals. Interest in the game (both public and my own) seemed to be dwindling, so I decided to call it quits for the time being. KrAzY expressed interest in hosting the next version, so I passed the torch to him.

Season: 3
Host: KrAzY (now known as Krayzee)
Prize: 3,000 minerals (with an additional 500 possible in a final "bonus round")
Winner: Doodan
Duration: March 29, 2006 - June 15, 2006

KrAzY wanted to shake things up a little, and so he introduced a couple of new concepts, while retaining the old rules. The jackpot this time was 3000 minerals. An additional prize of 500 minerals could be obtained in the "bonus round." There was also a late entry fee for someone who wanted to get in the game late, although I don't know if it was ever used, since I did not monitor this season very much. Also, in contrast to previous seasons, there was always a spoof option (I was not a moderator when I hosted the first two seasons, so spoof options were always forced onto the threads by SEN staff). Also, KrAzY tried to get 60 members to sign up in 3 separate polls, but was only able to get 40, with uneven numbers of people in each of the three polls.

KrAzY was the game's most controversial host. The game did not fare as popularly as before, with usually 15 - 20 total votes in many of the rounds. I have nothing against the guy, but he seemed to take things a tad too personally. In later rounds, a few members (particularly DEAD) got into fights with him over the fairness and efficiency of the game.

Anyways, what's most important about this season is that I WON! I didn't even pay attention to most of it, and when I started looking again in the last few rounds and was surprised to see that I was still on the list. The final round came down to me, Merrell, and Michael Jackson (!), and I won by a fairly large margin. After winning the final, and the 3000 mineral prize, I went on to the bonus round. In the bonus, I could get up to 500 additional minerals. However, members could vote against me, and with each vote, I would lose 10 minerals out of the final bonus. I ended up taking home 3,380 minerals when all was said and done.

Season: 4
Host: Syphon
Prize: 2,707 minerals
Winner: Voyager7456
Duration: June 14, 2006 - February 13, 2007

Longest season ever!

Syphon took the helm after KrAzY's season ended. He introduced a couple of concepts that would stick. Instead of simply naming the groups of contestants "polls," he named them "tribes," and each could have up to 10 people in them. There were three tribes, Teh Pr0nsterz, The Doodan Tribe (which, oddly enough, I was not in), and Hechtor>Meatloaf>Everything Tribe. This was also the first season to introduce immunity challenges. If a person met the requirements of the challenge, he was immune from eviction for that round. The grand prize was 2707 minerals. Also, the RAWRZ!!! ^_^ Monster was a contestant.

Syphon picked some odd topics for immunity challenges. Since success was usually determined by his amusement, there were grounds for accusations of bias. Not like he gave a damn, though. Also, he made new rounds whenever he felt like it, rather than sticking to a set schedule. The longest gap between rounds lasted nearly 2 months. ;p

Although they initially had friendly relations, the civility between Syphon and KrAzY deteriorated. As it would turn out, the "Monster" was really KrAzY in disguise. Once this was revealed, he was quickly voted off.

Late in the game, Syphon created a double immunity challenge. Whereby, the winner was immune for two straight rounds. Guess who that was... :shifty: Anyways, winning that thing pretty much sealed my fate.

The final round came down to Voyager vs Valug, with Voyager emerging victorious. He got to take home teh lewt.

Season: 5
Host: Doodan
Prize: 12,000 minerals
Winner: Desperado (now known as Esponeo), Merrel, Heegu
Duration: February 21, 2007 - April 11, 2007

I got the urge to host again, so I made the next season of SEN Survivor. I didn't feel the same stale model would give the game its previous popularity, so this time, major renovations were in order. I decreased the maximum contestant number to 20, divided into 2 tribes. Many of the original rules stayed. However, the nature of immunity challenges and tribal structure were greatly changed. I introduced special voting, eliminated spoof options (since I had the power to protect my polls with my Global Mod powers), and for the first time, things were set up to allow more than one winner. The grand prize was a whopping 12,000 minerals, which would be divided amongst the winners. This time, I really wanted to ramp up the competitive nature of the game, by giving large benefits to those who wished to work together or backstab their allies. The two tribes were brilliantly named "Tribe A" and "Tribe B."

Right from the beginning, this season's "public enemy" emerged in Desperado. His knack for winning challenges, aggressive self-promotion, and his abrasive attitude caused him to become the most controversial contestant to date. Thanks largely to him, Tribe B dominated most of the proceedings.

Towards the end of the game, contestants that Desperado had gone to great pains to eliminate banded together in an effort to bring him down. They nearly succeeded twice, but thanks to the exploitation of one of the oldest and seemingly innocent rules, Desperado was able to convince a couple of fellow contestants to drop out of the game and save him from the voters. The later rounds of the game brought back the popularity it once had at the end of 2005, and in the end, Desperado, Merrell, and Heegu won the final, and each took home an equal share of the 12,000 mineral prize.

Season: 6

Prize: varying
Winner: N/A

SEN Survivor has not done well in its sixth season. It has had at least two attempts at restarting that have not gone anywhere due to controversy, SEN downtime, or lack of interest on the part of the host or the participants. We shall leave this cursed season behind and move on to season 7!

Quote from Doodan

In addition to the first mini-game listed: I believe there should be more diversity.. such as UMS maps. Perhaps a team defense or team bound would be played, and the team that is victorious wins immunity. Of course, the tribe would have to nominate people to represent themselves.

Eh, the second idea is wonderful. Can't really improve it, unless you need more ideas for trivia.

For the Audience Participation idea, a non-contestant could possibly decide the immunity challenge for the next round also.

Maybe later into the game, some other mini-games could be introduced. The ideas could include the "Screw with "name's" face with MS Paint", or even having a short fragment from a tune, and have the tribe name the song. I have other ideas like creating a map for SC in a limited amount of time. Although.. some of these ideas would work better for single immunity challenges. They are quite foolish as well (and hilarious).

I have numerous ideas, but they are not fully developed for immunity challenges.

Anyways, I will not be participating in this SEN Survivor. After all, my minerals are disabled and I have no desire to become a "public enemy" again (aka. Hitl1r1) . I am more interested in this "co-host" role, depending on what is required.
