I see people testing out there maps all the time. Of course, its a new mapper who just played around with staredit. When they ask for your opinion/advice what do you say? I just tell them to "keep up the good work" and 'Look into scmdraft" then I leave

I advertise www.Staredit.net and if they ask for my help, I help them.

I give them a SEN link sometimes, depends on how good they are. I have trouble keeping up with everything around here, a first timer would find it hectic.

Maybe it's just you. When I first joined it was much larger and more active, and I didn't get lost. ;p

P.S. I usually try to give specific pointers, or recommend tools, SEN, etc.

I just help them to fix their maps and give them a useful advice when they ask me over B.net.

Yes, but how new were you when you joined? I joined ML because I couldn't figure out how to use the sprites in SCMDraft :D I was pretty noobie

"Hey, I've been mapping for around over 9000, here's how to test these in single player:"

"What editor do you use?"

"SCMDraft 2 is good."

"Ever heard of staredit.net?"

Just Here For The Pie

It's nice you guys give out the site's domain increasing the community and such, but really... Do we need 'moar n00bs'?

I usually tell them, "I've had a history with helping several of the 'mapper-impaired'. Best learn by self teaching, as I did. If that's not your style, I'm sure others are willing to lend a hand."

Kind of cruel, but I do not want to waste a day teaching someone the ropes.

Ah man, the worst was when I was afk, and my friend and his friend (whom I don't know) entered the channel. My friend's friend was talking about how he could not get a few things to work in his map. So my friend just goes off saying how pro I am and how I can fix any bug there is. (Which is true to an extent) Then that guy bugged me for about a week!

Arg, the 'mapper-impaired' is just cruel to me so I have to be cruel to them.

I hate to say it but some of the "new/bad" mappers out there that are hosting or testing their maps on battle.net have some really terrible maps. That, or they are just really desperate trying to spread their maps beyond what they're worth. Not to mention any names, but for the past couple weeks, I see this guy called "Prince_of_Doom" host his map "Dodge the Fireball" every, single, day. He calls it "NEW MAP" Or "TESTING NEW MAP" everytime. I mean even I don't think I can host any of my maps that many times without getting sick of it.

In the past when I try to give my advice to people they either were quite stubborn and wouldn't listen to me OR wouldn't understand what I was talking about (meaning their trigger/mapping knowledge is quite limited). I keep telling them what they should or shouldn't do in their maps and if they're the stubborn ones, they'd be like "Complain complain.. that's ALL you do!"

As for advertising SEN, I usually do it by telling others that I am an active member here.

I try to be polite and fix their errors. When expplaining, I try to be as simple as possible not to confuse them. sometimes I give actual feedback criticism if I see that the person is reasonable enough to use it to improve their map. And of course a link to SEN.

Do we need more noobs? Of course we do; if 100 noobs come here and one of them becomes a decent mapper and a mature member, we can say that our labour was not in vain, because that is the path we all went through. Some say that the mapping community is already dead; I disagree - I will accept it as dead only when we will not have the strength to bring up a single good member.

We were all nubs at some point, there is definitely a 1-2 month time in which you should let things go, after that, you know that their hopeless, and usually they end up leaving the community.
