ALL YOUR MAP ARE BELONG TO BLIZZARD.

YOU DON'T OWN SHIT. PROTECTION DOESN'T MATTER.

It's not about owning it. It's about respecting the creator's wishes and not changing it in ways they didn't approve of.
I can do whatever the hell I want with a map and disrespect whoever I want.

And how many times have you been banned from SEN and Maplantis?

The point behind the comment was that, sure you can do whatever you want, but the majority of people here don't like you at all, so you're not benefiting yourself, if you wish to be a part of this community. I can't wait until you are banned again.

Damn this topic is hott ATM. I choose protection, (first i thought this was about sex xD) because bastard map stealers host your map maybe edit and it gives you a bad name, makes you look like a map stealer and gives them undeserved credit. I understand the whole open source so people can look at maps and see how things were done but there was a trigger viewer at one point, and that was good enough for me i could look at how stuff was triggered and that eliminated a lot of potential map stealers.

EDIT: devilisk its not cool to be an asshole, it just makes you an asshole.

That's cool how you can know what the majority thinks when there's 72 pages of members on the memberlist.

And regardless, I can be here indefinitely as long as I follow the rules. And what side I do with protection/unprotection does not have to involve SEN at all. Hell, I could anonymously start stealing a bunch of maps and spreading them on battle.net if I wanted to and it wouldn't affect anything I do at SEN.

I'm guessing you will manage to piss of the administrators shortly. And regardless of what you CAN do, you're still an asshole if you disrespect the map maker's wishes after he has put in a lot of time making a map for you.

Edit: reported, lol?

Your interpretation is wrong.

I'm enjoying myself because I know this discussion is completely pointless.

Guys, just post your own opinion about the subject and move on. Read what others think and don't reply again. This isn't a discussion, it's a post your own opinion topic.

NerdyTerdy you keep saying not to force other people's opinions on others, and yet you're the one mass quoting everyone saying the samething over and over. We get it, you're for protection. Now lets hear what other people have to say.

Anyway, I like what Test said. There's no point in actually arguing back and forth about this because its been done so many times before, but since people just LOVE to voice their opinion lets just let everyone have ONE post where they can state their opinion and personal views and nothing more.

I have yet to see anyone address it being morally wrong. All I've seen is "I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT SO FUCK YOU LOLZ". Until then I'll continue jamming that issue down your throat.

By not forcing your opinion on others, I obviously meant that it's not okay to protect (lol?)/unprotect someone else's map.

And zing, we have a winning post here.

lolwut

I don't have much to say. I'm with unprotection because learning from other triggers is nice whenever I'm trying to replicate something from another map in a crappy map I'm making that will destroy the universe if someone plays it. >_>
But seriously, maps should be there for people to enjoy not for popularity and stuff. But hey, I'm a modder, there must be some deep philisophical device within mapping I don't get.

It would take way too long to define my entire idea of what is right and wrong.

And you expect us to somehow be able to address something which we don't know of? Sorry, we aren't mindreaders like you. We can't know what the majority thinks let alone one person. HA.

There's a general idea of what is right and wrong, that most people believe in.

I think whenever someone puts their time and effort in to creating something, for the general public, their wishes in regards to their creation should be respected. I think if you want to modify their creation you shouldn't be allowed to without their consent. And I think it's completely wrong to disregard what they've said can and cannot be done to their map and edit it anyway. After all, they could have chosen not to make it at all. Then you wouldn't have anything to edit. Besides, why do you even need to edit someone else's creation. If you think you could make it better, then make it yourself.

Good enough for you?

Good enough only to demonstrate that your idea of morally wrong is only an opinion. If you think that your beliefs should be taken as a truth which everyone should agree on then you're on some high horse. If you don't, then your opinion is just as meaningless as mine.

And about your statement about a general idea of right and wrong which people subscribe to:
Quote
Argumentum ad numerum

This fallacy is closely related to the argumentum ad populum. It consists of asserting that the more people who support or believe a proposition, the more likely it is that that proposition is correct. For example:

"The vast majority of people in this country believe that capital punishment has a noticeable deterrent effect. To suggest that it doesn't in the face of so much evidence is ridiculous."

"All I'm saying is that thousands of people believe in pyramid power, so there must be something to it."
Argumentum ad populum (Appeal to the people or gallery)

This is known as Appealing to the Gallery, or Appealing to the People. You commit this fallacy if you attempt to win acceptance of an assertion by appealing to a large group of people. This form of fallacy is often characterized by emotive language. For example:

"Pornography must be banned. It is violence against women."

"For thousands of years people have believed in Jesus and the Bible. This belief has had a great impact on their lives. What more evidence do you need that Jesus was the Son of God? Are you trying to tell those people that they are all mistaken fools?"
