Simply what the title says, true Capture The Flag (CTF) is coming to StarCraft and that means that it's coming to a RTS, which you don't see a lot of with the ability to have spell casting and class selection. This is going to be my biggest project I have ever done and I hope that everyone enjoys this as much as I do. If anymore has anything they would like to say about the map, then you can add a post to this thread or send me an e-mail at Joshgt3@gmail.com and I will be sure to get to you as soon as I get it!

{General Information}

-Created by:
Joshgt2
-Current Version: BETA (once everything is completely done)
-File size: Unknown
-Play style: Online only with 2 teams of 3 on 3 maximum

{Features}

-Wide range of selectable classes
-Multiple number of arena maps, simply for a different feel for each CTF
-Account Signing In/Guest Sign In
--Stored password for account holders to hold their 'unlocked' classes. Account numbers are given and kept on record for all of those people who sign up
(I am not taking account requests until a bit of the beta testing has been done)
--Guests can sign in and have the ability to unlock their classes depending on how good they do in the match
-Sound effects
--Spell sounds
--Reward sounds
--Activation sounds
-Spell casting system using Barracks and the Starport to cast spells. Each spell is assigned a number and according to the current class the unit being build will do the certain spell number. The Marine however is used to selecting where to place certain spells can be targeting by using the Wraith as a targeting system
-Having a build mode in which the buildings help your team out. Some buildings have special abilities and other can be used for blocking purposes if they must
--Verify build mode, this will allow for both teams to be fair with their building rights
-Mana regeneration system that differs with each class that you have

{Pictures/Screenshots}

-Class selection. Simply move your Terran Civilian (Selector) to the beacon with the unit and you will receive class information and make the final choice to select the class or select another

{Notes}

-I got this kind of map idea right from the
Half-Life 2 mod called Garry's Mod 10 inside the NoXious Server. They are known as being one of the best Zombie Survival and CTF servers on GMod 10 and they hold that reputation really well, but I wanted to bring that CTF to StarCraft
-I am taking class suggestions if anyone has anything to offer! If I like what I see then I will put it right in, but make sure it's good
-Account requests will not be taken until the beta testing is on its way and there has been progress to be made. I will not accept any account requests until I post here asking for any
-Multiple arenas will not be made until I have a semi-perfect map with the first couple of versions. I don't want to have to go through and edit 2 or more maps when I don't want/need to
-If anyone has anything to ask or say about this map please post something here and I will take a look at it or you can feel free to send me an e-mail at Joshgt3@gmail.com

{Map Updates}

-January 28, 2008-
--Added the Building Information section to this thread to allow people to see what all can be built during Build Mode. Only Terran can be used for building
--Soon going to add an Account Section where I will keep a list of all of the accounts that I have in the map or are going to be in the map. That should be coming in about a week or so. Then I won't have a rush of accounts, if I really do, coming in at one time
-January 27, 2008-
--New Concept Elite Class idea called the Dark Wizard. This class will have to be unlocked via account or by a certain score within the game to be able to play if I do decide to at this class
--Can't think of a good model for the Assassin, if anyone has any good suggestions then please let me know in this tread or something
--Spell System: Barracks and a Starport casting system like is said in the features
--Wraith target locking system for precise target usage
-January 16, 2008-
--Updated Class Information, Features, Note, Removed a screen shot due to map changes
--New Concept Class: Assassin (see above in Class Information for more about it)
--Account management for people that will have accounts in the map seem to be working 'ok' for the most part right now
--The Soldier class will now seem like a true soldier with it's spells being like shouts
-January 10, 2008-
--Building mode being worked on as being the first part of the map and begins the CTF round
--Began working on the system for players "logging in" when the map first begins, this will determine if the player has an account or not and which system they will be using throughout the game
-January 8, 2008-
--Added a lot of Concept Spells and regular spells to many of the classes. These concept spells are spells that I would love to add to the classes but I'm not quite sure if they will work or not or how they will be made, hence the 'concept' in the name
--I think I have the entire spell damage system figured out thanks to someone09 who gave me the great idea. Credit will be given to him in the end for his help
-January 7, 2008-
--Added the Melder class. This is an Elite Class as of right now
--Posted a help topic in the Map Making and Assistance right here for a damage system with spells that I can use. If anyone has anything for me please post it down for me to see
-January 3, 2008-
--Posted map production topic on SEN
--Began trigger work for many of the beginning classes
--Removed Fast Zombie for now. I don't see the need for it right at the moment

Quote
-Account Storing (Trial Idea): Ability to create account with me on the map main page or on here and have another version of the map be released with certain characters unlocked under your own personal password
-Sound effects

so your saying make multiple different maps?

wont that be frustrating for the pubs?

i think the whole map concept has been done before but it sounds good

I don't know if it has been done or not, but I knew that having multiple arenas/maps would require me to basically change all of the maps if one is changed. That is why I plan on using one "master" set of triggers and simply upload them to each map which won't be so bad for me then.

I would just use SCMÐraft 2 (v0.8.0) and just change the terrain, sure you'll have some null terrain spots, but you can copy/paste over it... No uploading triggers either, it would be very easy to do this method

I knew that I wasn't the first to do this kind of thing with the CTF in an RTS idea, that would simply be silly :lol: .

You are the mind reader... Only thing that would change from map to map would be the location of some triggers and the terrain... but triggers will stay the same

Yeah. Blizzard made one or two, AND A WHOLE GAME MODE for a Capture the Flag style game, just for SC.

But it doesn't have the ability of special spell casting classes or what not. I find that this will be a bundle better than Blizzard's simple game mode, :lol:

Actually, there WAS a spell casting pack of units for the official Blizzard CTF map..

Updated first post!!!

Added the Elite Melder Class which I thought of myself and I really like the way that it works and sounds. I am looking for help on a nice damage system though with the spells. The topic can be found right here for anyone with any suggestions...

You spelled "Goliath" wrong in the Juggernaut Section.
Dont mean to be a pest... just thought id let you know. ^^

The map looks OK, although it'll only be a few people who will get to "unlock" the stuff in newer versions, making things pretty unfair for noobies.

BTW, try working on that ego inflation of your's abit.

I didn't notice that till you said that... Changing it right away

I thought about the same thing and I kinda leaning towards a 'you get this amount of points and now you plan play the class' kind of thing... Making this a bit easier for n00blets...

I honestly can tell you I have no idea what you're talking about, lol :lol:. I don't even know what that means fully in this case...

I can say this. It would be AWESOME to have a map where my data was saved, but that just isn't a reality.

My opinion, create passwords for features people have unlocked. Though, you can throw in a few "Adminstrator" style secrets for you and your friends.

Thats what the plan was for people that wanted an account and what not but I also though about having the simple scoring system for the new people that don't have the advantages of the account like myself or my friends would have. It would be nice if things could automatically be saved but that is simply impossible right now... Maybe something to think about in StarCraft 2, lol

Jan 10 2008, 12:03 am Lingie Post #16

No, no map could be edited on the fly, because how would that editation get to EVERYONE else?

Passwords for your unlocks, equips, level, etc would be how you would have to do it.

I would leave it even for newbies and experienced players. It will be much more open for new people.

Also, could you work on your ego-itis? :unsure:

Yeah... You know...
A LOT of CTF maps have been made for StarCraft. Heck. Load up a melee map, and there's an option to play CTF.
Not to mention the AWESOME Team Fortress maps.
But the spells system sounds cool.
If you can pull this off, great!
Good luck :D
