It's considered profanity. This is mostly because most of our congressman are Christians who believe that sort of thing shouldn't be allowed. It's for the same reason we still print "in God we trust" on our money, despite the clear amendment violation.

So your answer is "because the people in power think it's bad (to publicly show nipples)"? So much was obvious before the topic was created. I think what Tux wants to know is why would today's Christians think it shouldn't be allowed? Pictures of Adam and Eve, for example clearly show them (see below). So what has changed?

All jokes aside. People are just ignorant. They teach their growing children that nudity is bad and guess what today's rebellious teen does? They go find some. Then sex is bad, guess whos country has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates. Then you look a Japan, a strange yet easier going country. One of the lowest.

This is somewhat related to that point, but I also find it funny that a woman in a bra and underwear is shocking and unacceptable, but a woman in a bikini (that could be more revealing) is fine.

The US is unusually hung-up about sex in media amongst English-speaking countries and yet generally turns a blind eye to violence. In other more sensible countries, it's the other way around.

I have never heard of that one before.

Also on another related point it is interesting how both extreme violence and sex is censored and both can earn you an R+18 rating, which really when you think about it are probably the extremes of love and hate.


ABOUT JAPAN
Isn't Japan like majorly overcrowded? Wouldn't that go to show that if anything they are breeding MORE than Americans? If a one-child policy was ACTUALLY enforced you would see the population in go in half. Actually you can't keep up a one child policy forever because eventually that results in extinction.

Woman's breasts and nipples are sexually appealing to men, more than men's are to woman. They are censored the same reason genital nudity is generally censored; because it's generally porn. Not always, but generally. And porn is morally wrong, same as lust, homosexuality, rape, premarital sex, extramarital sex, adultery, and other forms of sexual immorality. As society degenerates, these become societally more acceptable, and it is probable that unless western societies take an about face and return to our more moralistic past, we will allow public genital porn. In fact, we already do with the late night r18 TV shows. Porn and rape are pretty much the last sexual immoralities to become acceptable, and porn, as I said, is nearly acceptable now.

Overly crowded has nothing to do with overly breeding. You can't consider that because over breeding causes over crowding, over crowding is caused by over breeding. If anything, the Japanese don't really breed much. They're over crowded because they are metro-centric. If you take 100 people and squash them in a single square yard, then it's overly crowded. However, if you take a thousand people and let them roam in several acres, then it's not so much crowded. This only means either you're an idiot that needs more education.Also, it's not Japan that enforces the one-child policy. Japanese generally only have one child per family because growing kids are quite expensive. There's no doubt about that, and there is no doubt that there is no law enforcing Japanese from having more than one child.

I heard that Japanese parents stick condoms in their childrens' wallets when they become old enough.

A friend of mine came back from Japan with Japanese condoms. They had like anime cartoons on them, which made them look aimed at like 8 year olds. They were also ridiculously tiny. True story.

Nipples are erogenous zones. Hence why they are censored. It's just taboo due to society we live in.

Anyways, the difference between female nipples and male nipples is that one is functional, and the other vestigial. If male nipples could produce milk and get stiff when we are horny, then we couldn't show them either.
