Here is how the shoutbox mafia could work:

Players needed: 7-10
Roles:

• Host (The person that leads the game.) (He is neutral.)
  
• Mafias 2-3 (If they kill everyone, they win.) (They are the bad guys.)
  
• Governors 1-2 (Each night after the first one, they choose one person that the host will tell them the true identity.) (They try to lead the civilians to take good chooses.)
  
• Doctor 1 (He can save one person or himself each night.)
  
• All the rest are civilians (The players that try to kill all mafias.) (In order to win, they need to kill the mafias.)
  

Rules:
The host starts by giving roles to everyone (PM or whisper I guess)
Once everyone are ready, the game can start.

First night, all mafias meet each other. They can start planing their strategy. There are no kills the first night.
Governors meet (Unless there is only one of them...)

During the day, people try to convince the others to sent one person to the court (hopefully a mafia). Once the majority has voted, the judgement can start.
First, the host (judge) ask why they condemned that person. (Players will take turns to give reason.)
Once the judge is satisfied, he will then ask if anyone wants to protect him. (Players will take turns to give reason.)
After this is done, he will then ask again for a vote. If it turns out majority votes against him, he is then lynched meaning he can't help anymore.
His last action will be to tell the others what his role was (Mafia, governor, doctor or civilian).

Once the court is ended, night starts.
Mafias will tell each other what person they vote for to kill. Once they agree with each other, they go back to sleep.

Now it's the turn for the governors to wake up. They are asked which person to scan for (know the true identity). Once they agree on one person, the host tells them. They can go back to sleep.

The doctor is last. He is asked which person he wants to save. The host tells him if he got it right or not. After that, he goes back to sleep.

Night ends day starts. (All what happened during the night needs to be whispered or sent by PM.) (The host needs to see everything.)

The hosts makes a briefing of all what happened during night. (To make it more exciting, he can make a story.)

I tried to make the rules as simple as I could. The nights are supposed to be as fast as possible. The game should be played in one session.

Edit: Really, it can be played anywhere, even in real life (The players that get a special role need to communicate by pointing while the others are looking down.)

This is the real version I used to play when I was in a school bus for a long ride. It was really fun. (Hopefully it can work on the internet as well.)

I'm all for it. You should totally try to start one up asap.

If enough people like the idea, maybe a game could be planned once each X time. This can be a way to make Sen more active since it seems like some people think not enough things are happening. And the game can easily be adapted to the host's ideas. What is fun about it, is that the games can be spontaneous. And as time passes, some people will become good as host.
