I have no idea what benefits you'd get from buying pre-built vs building yourself. The first thing to consider really is price; it's feasible than an old-the-shelf cheap PC will be cheaper than anything you can build

Lanthanide shouted: FaRTy1billion yeah well that's what I meant - a new game comes out that he decides he wants to play. from what you've said it sounds unlikely, though, so future-proofing may not be so important. basically if he will only *ever* use the computer for that game, then yeah just get the chaepest you can, but if there's a chance he'll use it for anything else - office, web surfing, other/newer games, then I think spending a bit more would be sensible
