The donwano -- TF-
TF- shouted: more likely they had a first release candidate that looked like this http://www.gosugamers.net/starcraft/images/news/SC2ModTerran.jpg and it was promptly flushed down the toilet
What the hell is that monstrosity?
[2016-12-15. : 4:08 pm]
IskatuMesk -- And God, does that look bad. Jesus.
[2016-12-15. : 4:07 pm]
IskatuMesk -- Blizzard releases stuff that looks worse than that today
[2016-12-15. : 3:53 pm]
TF- -- more likely they had a first release candidate that looked like this http://www.gosugamers.net/starcraft/images/news/SC2ModTerran.jpg and it was promptly flushed down the toilet
[2016-12-15. : 3:52 pm]
TF- -- if it was that I think they would be done by now
[2016-12-15. : 3:50 pm]
IskatuMesk -- e.g. bloating the resolution and then just rescaling the sprites dynamically
[2016-12-15. : 3:50 pm]
IskatuMesk -- to be honest I would be surprised if they re-rendered anything and weren't just trying to hack their way around it
[2016-12-15. : 3:35 pm]
TF- -- since the tilesets weren't simplistic garbage like sc2 with interpolated textures and the absolute bare possible minimum of unique 3d models for cliffs and terrain
[2016-12-15. : 3:34 pm]
TF- -- if I had to guess, what's slowing them down is re-doing the tilesets, not the units
[2016-12-15. : 3:34 pm]
TF- -- i'm just curious if they're going to re-render the original models or give it all new cartoony shit
[2016-12-15. : 3:26 pm]
IskatuMesk -- it will be a tiny drop in the pond and likely serve only to create divide in the regrowing professional scene, so it actually could kill what sc currently has if some things don't switch over to it and others do
[2016-12-15. : 3:25 pm]
IskatuMesk -- starcraft hd is not really going to do anything for mappers
[2016-12-15. : 3:19 pm]
TF- -- it's theoretically possible to DEPLOY a good campaign, just not to make it
[2016-12-15. : 3:19 pm]
TF- -- note, the "custom launcher" is just a .bat file put through a bat to exe converter, but it made it look professional like you could have a custom icon and everything
[2016-12-15. : 3:18 pm]
TF- -- oh, the new launcher is hilarious, but i was happy to see i could at least still use my custom campaign launcher that skips all the bullshit and opens the menu map of the campaign
[2016-12-15. : 3:16 pm]
TF- -- at any rate we've got starcraft hd to look forward to, i'm assuming they're saving it for christmas
[2016-12-15. : 3:15 pm]
TF- -- bugs like corrupted animations and erased strings from all your levels and mod files might be funny if you're making an arcade map or 4 mission campaign, not if you're making anything serious
[2016-12-15. : 3:14 pm]
TF- -- yeah, it's not just hard to make campaigns for sc2, it's actually impossible
[2016-12-15. : 2:52 pm]
IskatuMesk -- There's no reason to do anything about it. There are solutions to developers that Blizzard in 50 years will never even approach the shadow of even if they genuinely wanted to.
[2016-12-15. : 2:52 pm]
The donwano -- Well, there's not much you & I can do about it. Unless we become CEO of Blizzard & decide to change the route the company goes. But I doubt the board of directors would let that even happen $$$$
[2016-12-15. : 2:48 pm]
The donwano -- The other way around than what I said. Very true, makes sense.
[2016-12-15. : 2:48 pm]
IskatuMesk -- It's always been like that, at least in the West. Just that, at some point, people passionate about games were in control of the project.
[2016-12-15. : 2:47 pm]
The donwano -- Ugh. Why did it have to stop becoming about the game & more about how can we trickle in profits from every direction?
[2016-12-15. : 2:47 pm]
IskatuMesk -- The launcher is a pile of shit that chews resources like a pig.
[2016-12-15. : 2:46 pm]
IskatuMesk -- Do you mean the launcher? That's so they can push ads to you.
[2016-12-15. : 2:46 pm]
The donwano -- I don't have any forms of social media so I am out of the loop I felt.
[2016-12-15. : 2:46 pm]
The donwano -- With the social media crap.
[2016-12-15. : 2:46 pm]
IskatuMesk -- What do you mean linked?
[2016-12-15. : 2:46 pm]
IskatuMesk -- Which meant they acknowledged people were interested in large-scale projects. Sc2 they don't give a shit.
[2016-12-15. : 2:46 pm]
The donwano -- Is that what happens in SC2 now? I really only played it at launch & couldn't get into it very much. Just way too different & everything felt like it had to be linked.
[2016-12-15. : 2:46 pm]
IskatuMesk -- But, Blizzard did do a few positive things in wc3 they never repeated, like at least they *attempted* campaign support
[2016-12-15. : 2:45 pm]
IskatuMesk -- Wc3 wasn't really any different than sc2 with the exception that the social media/data mining trend hadn't picked up yet.
[2016-12-15. : 2:44 pm]
IskatuMesk -- I was told from Blizzard employees activision didn't really have much hand in it. It was entirely their own leadership. But I would imagine activision is partly to blame.
[2016-12-15. : 2:44 pm]
The donwano -- Do you think this has anything to do with Activision acquiring them?
[2016-12-15. : 2:44 pm]
IskatuMesk -- Once you use an actual editor and deal with an actual developer you immediately find everything Blizzard has ever done entirely inexcusable and you will never look back except to laugh.
[2016-12-15. : 2:41 pm]
IskatuMesk -- Also, the attempt to steal dota's name so they could leech off of Icefrog's popularity. Can't forget that.
[2016-12-15. : 2:41 pm]
IskatuMesk -- The arcade is a marketing platform and that's it.
[2016-12-15. : 2:40 pm]
IskatuMesk -- That critical development issues such as a cache bug still persist to this day, that mac users continually watch patches go by failing to address an entirely unusable editor, that they focus on restricting customization (Galaxy, Arcade, CRC mpq checks, no actual mod support like dawn of war, supreme commander, sins of a solar empire, civilization, age of wonders 2, etc...) only further cements the completely uninterested marketing-driven development they've had since Diablo 2: LoD.
[2016-12-15. : 2:39 pm]
The donwano -- Very true. The RMAH on Diablo 3 was proof to me that Blizzard was greedy.
[2016-12-15. : 2:39 pm]
IskatuMesk -- But they are too lazy to even make the engine attractive to custom content developers.
[2016-12-15. : 2:38 pm]
IskatuMesk -- There is no desire for glory. Only straight up greed.
[2016-12-15. : 2:38 pm]
IskatuMesk -- The marketplace microtransaction thing will come up again which is their sole reason behind any and all semblance of "support" you see. The same reason they'd rather make shitty DLC and recolors for overweight/heroes.
[2016-12-15. : 2:36 pm]
IskatuMesk -- It's a feature bulletpoint to sell their product and absolutely nothing more. The editor in sc2 is an untested pile of shit, Galaxy is a stripped down disaster that isn't even a shadow of what it was in WoL beta, they are extremely unprofessional in how they deal with partners (I speak from experience), unprofessional in how they handle release processes (blindly deleting everything in 1.5 and 3.0) and would rather shill instead of communicate.
[2016-12-15. : 2:35 pm]
The donwano -- They want all the glory.
[2016-12-15. : 2:35 pm]
IskatuMesk -- blizzard has never once done something for custom content.
[2016-12-15. : 2:04 pm]
TF- -- Ahli
Ahli shouted: SC2 was designed with custom content in mind. Hence there are little black boxes and countless parameters... Those parameters are just undocumented
the biggest argument against "SC2 was designed with custom content in mind" is that they destroy everything with patches every few years, but there's others, plenty others
[2016-12-15. : 2:02 pm]
TF- -- the stuff from 2010 is great, asking blizz about art tools that were still 4 years away
[2016-12-15. : 1:41 pm]
IskatuMesk -- (I only use it to see his lords of the locker room gifs)
[2016-12-15. : 1:41 pm]
IskatuMesk -- you can now read the mucky stuff I retweet the every few weeks I use it
[2016-12-15. : 1:20 pm]
jjf28 -- meskt
[2016-12-15. : 1:19 pm]
Ahli -- I just found mesk on twitter
[2016-12-15. : 11:58 am]
Moose -- (By which I mean I saw the creator and a tester talking in a channel)
[2016-12-15. : 11:38 am]
Moose -- jjf28
jjf28 shouted: yoon made a troll map with it and allegedly a DLL launcher; frankly I just stepped into a byte, rejoiced, and quit theory crafting forever
I heard a rumor that someone made a map that actually deleted your maps folder LMAO
[2016-12-15. : 11:37 am]
Moose -- Apos
Apos shouted: Not really an excuse though, SC1 probably had even less documentation
For the state of mapmaking in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the staredit.exe help files were actually decent.
[2016-12-15. : 9:42 am]
TF- -- TRVMP
[2016-12-15. : 8:10 am]
Lanthanide -- I guess he can run it into the ground, faster than it is already going
[2016-12-15. : 8:10 am]
Lanthanide -- given his recent somewhat erratic behaviour, it's far from gauranteed
[2016-12-15. : 8:10 am]
Lanthanide -- it's not yet been shown that Trump can run the country
[2016-12-15. : 8:03 am]
O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- an all Bomma did was play golf
[2016-12-15. : 8:02 am]
O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- sure, if dubbyu and trump can do it, how hard can it be?
[2016-12-15. : 7:59 am]
KrayZee -- Farty the Billionaire instead of knowing it runs the game, can you run the country?
[2016-12-15. : 7:55 am]
O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- worst case I guess I could transfer my server to that then give him the old computer back, since I know it runs the game xD
[2016-12-15. : 7:52 am]
O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- I figure I could try to run the game on it, and if it doesn't work look for a graphics card to put in it
[2016-12-15. : 7:51 am]
O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- so like this? There are a ton like it
[2016-12-15. : 7:49 am]
Lanthanide -- FaRTy1billion
FaRTy1billion shouted: and I found basically the same thing with a keyboard and mouse, so I'd just need a monitor xD
yeah, I think you should buy off the shelf / refurbished
[2016-12-15. : 7:15 am]
NudeRaider -- Also some hard truth from the best show that ever existed: http://i.imgur.com/XK2hB2b.jpg
[2016-12-15. : 7:14 am]
NudeRaider -- Mini Moose 2707
Mini Moose 2707 shouted: jjf28 Why? I can just show the map to the 5 people here who still have SCBW installed :moose:
fam don't get me started. I got it on Windows AND Linux (was even the first game to run there) so that already counts as twice. :P
[2016-12-15. : 7:12 am]
NudeRaider -- Apos
Apos shouted: It's always a really really really really really short path
= straight line. Sounds like it would work really well in real space. ;)
[2016-12-15. : 6:21 am]
O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- and I found basically the same thing with a keyboard and mouse, so I'd just need a monitor xD
[2016-12-15. : 6:13 am]
O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- (I looked for W7 because I imagine my dad hating W10)
