O_O PfSense because at the time I started using it, it had probably one of the better UIs for an open source router.[2016-12-16. : 12:24 pm] NudeRaider -- Dem0nDem0n shouted: I have literally never, ever had a forced reboot on W10. I really don't know what the fuck you guys are talking about. then you should not only read the beginning of an argument, but also its resolution. I researched and shouted in great detail what the conditions for automatic restarts are.[2016-12-16. : 12:23 pm] Corbo -- Mini Moose 2707Mini Moose 2707 shouted: And why would he want to make America great again if he's in Germany? And use an English motto? LMAO well, not per se...[2016-12-16. : 12:20 pm] NudeRaider -- Mini Moose 2707Mini Moose 2707 shouted: I'll build a firewall and make the shitty memers pay for it since we have a lot of those around here, funding is already guaranteed. nice![2016-12-16. : 12:20 pm] Moose -- And why would he want to make America great again if he's in Germany? And use an English motto? LMAO[2016-12-16. : 12:19 pm] ShadowFlare -- I'm not saying I like the update system in Windows 10 - the update system was better in a way in Vista throught 8.1 (at least until they broke it and made it horribly slow sometime later 2014 and still haven't pushed the fix through Windows Update or made it available for Vista or Server 2012 non-R2) and the settings weren't hidden.[2016-12-16. : 12:16 pm] Moose -- https://i.imgur.com/obieZMh.jpg O___________________________________O[2016-12-16. : 12:15 pm] jjf28 -- Mini Moose 2707Mini Moose 2707 shouted: I just change the settings in my software updater. They aren't hidden and I don't need a special version of my OS for them to be unlocked. I'm actually surprised that this is an abnormal state. LMAO how särˈdänik[2016-12-16. : 12:15 pm] Corbo -- Mini Moose 2707Mini Moose 2707 shouted: I just change the settings in my software updater. They aren't hidden and I don't need a special version of my OS for them to be unlocked. I'm actually surprised that this is an abnormal state. LMAO TBH I am surprised too. Everything microsoft does now has forced automatic updates that you cannot disable. Even office pesters you with forced automatic updates[2016-12-16. : 12:13 pm] Corbo -- Tbh I only found this out because w10 messed up my laptop. I am also mad at w10 and would definitely advice against it. Turns out it was incompatible with my graphics card and its switchable technology or whatever. So it just blue screen of deaths if it detects it. I had to disable my video card entirely on the bios. But I did not figure this out until like the 17th install.[2016-12-16. : 12:11 pm] Moose -- I just change the settings in my software updater. They aren't hidden and I don't need a special version of my OS for them to be unlocked. I'm actually surprised that this is an abnormal state. LMAO[2016-12-16. : 12:08 pm] Corbo -- ShadowFlareShadowFlare shouted: Corbo Even if you do that, it will still download/install updates it considers important enough, though I don't know how often that happens. Also not an option for a wired network connection. you can with wired computers. But it also requires some registry edits.[2016-12-16. : 11:55 am] ShadowFlare -- It's an open source router running on a small low-power computer I bought specifically for that purpose.[2016-12-16. : 11:52 am] ShadowFlare -- But I've already got an advanced router, so I don't need those features.[2016-12-16. : 11:49 am] ShadowFlare -- They are definitely routers (like normally $150 - $180 routers at the time) and meant to be used as such. By enabling wireless access point or wireless bridge mode, I was disabling a large portion of their feature set.[2016-12-16. : 11:39 am] jjf28 -- EchoEcho shouted: Anyone remembers that website that has a huge zip of UMS maps? http://www.staredit.net/topic/3375/[2016-12-16. : 7:43 am] ShadowFlare -- And another mode to seamlessly bridge with the wireless network hosted by another one, for the purpose of connecting devices by ethernet to the wireless network.[2016-12-16. : 7:41 am] ShadowFlare -- Technically routers, but this model has an access point-only mode that completely disables the router functions.[2016-12-16. : 7:36 am] ShadowFlare -- A local Walmart store had them on clearance for near 1/3 their normal price a year and a half ago and I bought 3. [2016-12-16. : 7:33 am] ShadowFlare -- The devices hosting and connecting to the wireless are both 3-stream (1.3 Gbps) 802.11ac access points in this case, with a built-in 4 or 5 point gigabit switch.[2016-12-16. : 7:30 am] ShadowFlare -- The connection was more reliable that way anyway, and I could put it closer to get a better signal than I could have with a card in the computer.[2016-12-16. : 7:27 am] ShadowFlare -- Essentially the computer doesn't know it is on wireless because it is plugged into it by a cable into another device. [2016-12-16. : 7:25 am] Lanthanide -- " (by using a wireless bridge to wire them into the wireless)" I think you don't know what the word "wire" means[2016-12-16. : 7:07 am] ShadowFlare -- I used to have that setup, but things have been moved and I don't need to do that anymore.[2016-12-16. : 7:06 am] ShadowFlare -- My home computers would be wired even if they were connecting through wireless, actually. (by using a wireless bridge to wire them into the wireless)[2016-12-16. : 7:04 am] ShadowFlare -- My computers are wired, so I can't do that, but I have pro edition, so I have a better option anyway.[2016-12-16. : 6:35 am] ShadowFlare -- CorboCorbo shouted: ShadowFlare ShadowFlare a workaround to this is setting the connection to metered. It will.never download updates that way Even if you do that, it will still download/install updates it considers important enough, though I don't know how often that happens. Also not an option for a wired network connection.[2016-12-16. : 6:13 am] O)FaRTy1billion[MM] -- Fire_KameFire_Kame shouted: Rogue One 10/10 apparently my friend's girlfriend's family rented out a movie theater to see it and has extra tickets, but they're going half an hour before I get off work D:[2016-12-16. : 5:22 am] Corbo -- ShadowFlareShadowFlare shouted: Since I have it set to only download updates and tell me they are ready to install, they don't get installed until I tell it to, so no auto-reboots unless I install the updates and leave it without rebooting. ShadowFlareShadowFlare shouted: But Microsoft made that a Pro-only feature for some reason (which you need to enable through the group policy editor or the registry, and the registry setting doesn't even work for Home). a workaround to this is setting the connection to metered. It will.never download updates that way[2016-12-16. : 4:15 am] ShadowFlare -- Can't find anything other than the official statements, which don't specify if it will run, only that they won't be supported (and won't have drivers for at least some things).[2016-12-16. : 3:55 am] ShadowFlare -- But I don't know if what Microsoft has said about supporting newer CPUs means they just won't provide support on computers using them or if Win7 won't even run.[2016-12-16. : 3:52 am] ShadowFlare -- Which may not be legal, but is probably undetectable once completed, since afterward Win10 will auto-activate on its own on that hardware even with a clean install.[2016-12-16. : 3:50 am] ShadowFlare -- Considering that newer computers probably can't even run Windows 7 in legacy/bios mode (which is required for that OEM preactivation mode), there is a loophole they won't really need to close with upgrading Win7 installations that use that activation method, which people have been using to get Win10 permanently activated for free by simulating the requirements for that activation mode in Win7 before upgrading.[2016-12-16. : 3:42 am] jjf28 -- Mini Moose 2707Mini Moose 2707 shouted: If their plan is to eventually discontinue support for older versions, I'd imagine they'd keep free upgrades available until they drop support. that's the month-before surprise [2016-12-16. : 3:37 am] ShadowFlare -- And that one doesn't involve having an activate-able Windows 7 key.[2016-12-16. : 3:35 am] ShadowFlare -- Even upgrading an OEM preinstalled/preactivated copy of Windows 7 and having Windows 10 be activated after the upgrade.[2016-12-16. : 3:33 am] ShadowFlare -- The only thing they changed after the free upgrade period "ended" was removing it from Windows Update. Every other way of upgrading still works and still activates as before.[2016-12-16. : 3:24 am] Moose -- If their plan is to eventually discontinue support for older versions, I'd imagine they'd keep free upgrades available until they drop support.[2016-12-16. : 3:22 am] Moose -- I'm not too worried, I don't need anyone's approval to use or upgrade my OS. Calm down, SEN. fuk u[2016-12-16. : 3:19 am] ShadowFlare -- I wonder if/when Microsoft will stop allowing free upgrades to Windows 10 or clean installs of it with 7/8/8.1 keys that have never been used for Windows 10?[2016-12-16. : 3:17 am] Moose -- Mini Moose 2707Mini Moose 2707 shouted: And to think people actually paid money for the privilege of not being able to configure automatic updates C|X^DDDDDDDDD Yes, I know, not specifically for that. I'm not being literal.
