Dying is one of the more fundamental things in life, along with debt and taxes. It has been called everything from “Kicking the bucket” to “Croaking” and many others that are more colorful. Every one of us will/is dying. Some go peacefully in their sleep, others could suffer massive heart attacks, or lay bleeding to death in a roadway from multiple stab wounds. Some may be lucky and survive; others may be unlucky and die. One of the more scarier thoughts that comes along with dying is “How will I die?”

Many people think that they can come up with the scariest way to die. Many horror films have depicted this in during their screenplay. Hostel features backpackers that get drugged and sold to people that then do what they want to them until they die. Others feature mythical beasts that come out and eat you. Some are more graphic then others.
Many also have people that are insane and go on killing sprees. Serial killers are also in their category of their own. “I know what you did last summer” is an older film in which high school kids think they have killed a man via vehicular manslaughter, but little do they know, he will hunt them down and kill them with a slicker.

I think burning to death is the worst of all. The single thought of feeling unbelievable temperatures against your flesh, melting it away as you sit in agony just blows my mind. Another thought of this is, what if you survive it? Would you really want to live with skin, usually full body burns or even have to have skin graphs. The smell is also overwhelming.

Torture would be a close second. I can’t even begin to explain what someone could do to another to inflict pain/bodily harm. Drowning would come in at third. All of the others would come in any random place after third.

Drowning

Probably torture. Burning would probably be a close second, but it also depends on the severity of the flame. I'm sure that in a severe fire, while there would still be pain it wouldn't last as long as you would asphyxiate sooner or later due to the smoke.

Torture seems like the worst, because it's actual purpose is to inflict as much pain as possible and not actually kill you. Hell, they could even introduce some burning into the torture. There's so many ways one can be tortured.

Cancer. I'd rather be tortured for one day than several years.

I ask people this question a lot, and everyone says burning to death. I admit, that would be terrible, but being slowly crushed to death would be worse in my option, you endure the pain of your entire body breaking.

I would take fire over being ripped limb from limb.

I believe the worst way of dying is strongly correlated with the mentality. Like, it depends on the mental situation, like knowing that as soon as you are dead, your loved ones or something will live a terrible life afterwards. This would make any "road to death" a hundredfolds more painful, mentally and physically

You forgot dying of old age. Being tortured would be the worst way to die because you have to endure the worst of pain and you have to have a slow, painful death.

The worst part of torture is that you don't know what could nor what will happen. Your body can endure more pain then you would think. But all in all, everyone can only take so much before they either pass out or go into shock, or even die.

Burning To Death, Drowning, Torture, Heart Attack, Cancer, Crushed To Death. All of these are slow and painful deaths, but I think burning to death would be the most pain. It depends on type of torture though, and drowning would cause massive panicking.

Torture, definitely. You can incorporate everything else in there. Get a flamethrower, burn one hand off (it auto-cauterizes!), stick a fork in your eye, crush your legs under a slowly-lowering block.. (or, crush your testies. Ouch.), and hey, guess what - still not dead. I can give you cancer, or put you on a falling jet, or drown you. Or continue the fun.

Torture is #1 because of how it can simply never end, and because of how it incorporates everything else.

Torture, as devilesk said, isn't really a method of death...
And torture can include any of your other methods of death to a greater sicker degree (slowly burning to death with little flames, crushing body parts by the square inch, drowning to the point of death but staying alive, only to repeat again and again). And then it isn't even bound by that. How about beating thousands of tiny shreds of glass into the body so every movement causes pain, but will not kill you? So obviously that torture will be the only true choice, and as such, should be removed.

Given extent of pain over length of time, I'll vote burn to death. Cancer a close second.

Is it just me, or are we talking about the worst way to die...? Why don't you nominate dying in your sleep, then? Sheesh.

I'm not going to pretend I have any idea what the worst death would be, btw. I abstain my vote. And I don't think torture should be an option, it's a whole different situation that allows for maximum awfulness. (too broad)

I wouldn't really place cancer as a top worst way to die. Usually if it's a terminal cancer you'd be in a hospice or something where you'd actually be attempted to be made comfortable and they'd probably give you a bunch of drugs to ease the pain.

Also there's several variables for each of the other deaths which could make them potential worse or not as bad. For example, car/plane crash death may be instantaneous, or you could be in pain and slowly dying for days with injuries.

Heart attack/drug od/intoxication seem to be the bottom of the pile though. I don't see either of those as being particularly painful.

I think we may be underestimating being crushed to death as well.

How you die doesn't matter at the moment of death. I think this topic is more a way to compare most things that precursor death.

I definitely wanna die or something other than Drowning.
Apparently it's like intense burning pain in your chest, hold your breath as long as you can, and you'll get a taste.
