Well to say they're screwed I guess is a given. But they're kinda irrelevant; it's China that's the issue, really. That is, whether China will choose to show they can compromise to be respectful of Tibet, or whether they'll just prove themselves to be royal cunts to the rest of the world and turn belligerent and self-important like everyone nowadays seems to enjoy doing.

Whadda you guys think?

It might be good for you to give an overview on the situation in Tibet that you are referring to.

How unknowing can you be, Frazz? You know, Obama and Hillary are competing. Yep.

Well, I'll c/p my post on Maplantis:

Well, look at how much the people hate war. If governments started a war against China or something else that compromised trade or increased taxes or anything, the chance that the president at the time would be reelected is very small. Thus, the Presidents mostly try to avoid war at all costs (Choosing Bush was just choosing the lesser of two evils. Still, not sure how he won.)

Blame democracy. Dictatorship is the way to go! Wewt!

I think China's really starting to get screwed up. Most of the internet-lovers (US!) hate their policies, their pollution gets so bad as to cause rivers to grow red, and I don't think many countries did that badly as to have the Olympics boycotted simply based on location. I think half of the people in America are just kind of laughing at China - I know I am.

The only reason I can think of that anyone wouldn't understand this is if they've either been living in a cave, don't care, or otherwise are misinformed. The reason I didn't post any links is that if someone doesn't already understand the topic (and it's pretty hard not to follow the news on this kind of stuff), I really don't want their opinion anyway. :P

These stuff pop up even if you just search 'Tibet' on google.

TT: I know about the situation and all, but it's still good to give an overview, or point to specific details that you want to talk about. At least I think it is.
Also, this topic is about Tibet (and China and such), not about how uninformed I may be (that is to say that it should have stopped with Centreri).

I find the situation more tragic than humorous.

I find it funny at least how the issue of human rights with practically an entire nation only gets taken seriously when some dumb corporate sponsored games are at stake.

It just shows how fucked up people's priorities are. But that shouldn't be news to anyone now. The existence of PETA is proof of that well enough.

Senseless killing and suffering, as well as the continued ignorance of hundreds of millions of people is a bit more sad than it is humorous.

With regards to China in general, not just with Tibet.

Looks like China is getting a foothold with public sympathy. The effectiveness of their media blackout is truly awe inspiring. Won't be long now.

I know the Olympics aren't supposed to be used for political platforms and all, but we've got to work out some minimal standards here. A few dumb corporate sponsored games really shouldn't be placed above basic human rights. The IOC is pissing me off more than anyone else here thinking they're above all this shit. All they're interested in is getting their chance to profit off of their sponsors who get to use the event to sell some bottles of flavored sugar water and a few cell phones.

Fucked up priorities indeed.

There are ways that Chinese could go around the great firewall of china. What I am outraged about is that on hotels which have internet are not blaming their firewall of china, but instead blaming distance. ( Which is complete bullshit because I live in Korea and I have 55 ms on USWest, and 124 ms on USEast. A perfectly smooth connection, round trip.

Beijing Olympics will definately be a staging ground for human rights activists.

Dear BeDazed:
Where at in Korea? I was in Busan over Christmas, and was in Seoul briefly before flying back to the US.

Heh, I like that firewall line Chinese hotels are pulling. I'm sure many people buy into it.

A war with china is a war with nukes. If it came down to it, do you think they'd launch theirs, or if it came down to it would we launch ours? I think so.

I won't watch the olympics this year... but I don't watch that much t.v. anyways. And when I do watch it, it's the news networks... of which I despise because there's way too much bullcrap that they spew out. China won't "Free Tibet." Tibet can't really rebel, they'd be crushed. I don't think anything will happen other than the supports of freeing Tibet will be mad and disgruntled and maybe forget about it in 20 years when Tibet is just another piece of China.

Nothing will change. I hope people try and turn the Olympics into a chance to show human rights activism, but I'm betting that any media coverage of the event in China will be Censored if need be. Only people observing china will know :-/...
