You can also do a "Relive the Classics" theme, especially if the mapmaking tools have been improved.
Base your map on an old classic, and remake it using whatever's been added in with the remastered version.


For example, remaking Sunken Defenses, Evolves but with better controls? Penguin Wars? Blood Pressure Marathon? Micro Challenges? It'd be a nostalgia trip and be a great way to get our feet wet again.

As UnholyUrine said, maybe its better to start with small classic maps (rather than complex and long games that might take a while to figure out after all the patches).

I don't think now is the right time, I mean 1.18 isn't even stable.

Now if you were hosting a 1.16 contest, that could work.

Contest will be held after 1.19 is launched and agreed to be stable enough to support a contest.

I really like this idea, and it fits into the overall theme of taking something old and revitalizing it that this remaster sets out to do. I have a couple of maps in mind that are good concepts executed poorly, so if a contest had a theme like that I'd participate for sure.

See Armored Core and Cave Wars by Moose. Both are good examples of taking good concepts executed poorly, and remaking them well.

I have plenty of old maps I could reboot for a contest like that, so I would participate.

I dont care what the theme or rules are I'm down. I'll throw some monies into the pot as well.

Yes, I had this thought awhile back. I'd love to "remaster" a classic. For example, the "10-Way" Cannon/Sunken/Bunker Defense maps.. they're a classic but holy shit do they need a remaster. I'm game. Start on it now and have it done before remastered.
