Is there a doodad limit? Do doodads count into the regular unit count? Or what?

There is a limit for ones with sprites attached (like trees), they would fall under the sprite limit. Other than that, doodads are just like unique pieces of terrain.

I think im correct in this... but (someone check me on this)
But any Doodad that a unit (such as a marine) can stand behind takes up part of the limit.
Animated doodads are in the limit.
Any Doodad that has a sprite instead of the regular make-up of square terrain is IN the limit.
Things like Cliff Art, Caves, Things in the water, bridges and Ramps are not counted as part of the limit.
Basically, there is NO Doodad limit.
However, some doodads require a sprite, which is accounted in the sprite limit.

The DOODAD sprite limit is 499, so yes, there is a limit in that sense, and you only use up those sprites with any terrain that you can stand behind, just like you said. But with most "doodads", it's simply terrain.

You don't need room to place a ramp. You can stack doodads with advanced editors.

dude, just go into the tileset index with SCM draft 2.0. If its in there, theres no limit.
... well, theres always the Map 256 x 256.... but i doubt if you need that many ramps or things like that.
