FF8 was a lot of fun for a while. However at some point the interesting places you visited couldn't cover up for the repetitive gameplay anymore and I just stopped playing it about 2/3 through. Kinda feel bad for it, because the game was pretty immersive.
FF8 was the FF that brought me personally into the franchise, and I loved it too. Sadly, the Ragnarok only worked for the end part of the game.

The feeling when you can run into a 3v2, where your ally is about to die, and you still get all three before a waboo jumps in from the shadows and last hits you.

I could not agree more. I have also never beaten FFVIII, yet I loved it. I replayed it up to the third disc about six times. Sure, the first two times I was just straight up lost, but the other times I played both solo and with a friend with full focus. Each attempt, I would just grow bored of it so far through.
