Oh alright, I'm only at level 4.
And I think its funny that I colonized a planet and my rank went up (chronologically) by about 20.

Still wanting to trade 40k metals for 20k crystals from several people.
Mmmm. I needz Combustion level 6

Your 'rank' is basically your total 'points'. You get a point for each 1000 resources you have spent. So, a Small Cargo (Costing 2000/2000) will increase your points by 4. Solar Planet level 23 (Costing 561k/224k) will increase your points by 785.
Edit: there used to be a massive debate over on the oGame boards about creating a 'score' statistic, which was derived by how many resources you have stolen from other players, how many ships/defences you have destroyed and how many resources you have recycled (directly from your hits on other players). Everyone wanted this implemented but GameForge developers basically said no - and were more keen on developing
oGame 1.0.
It used to be that when your first colony ship made a new planet, you ended up losing 40 points since you lost the colony ship - but I'm guessing they've factored in a planet to be worth at least some points.
I'm on 18 Metal, 14 Crystal, 5 Deuterium and 17 Solar levels and not even got Astrophysics yet
... stupid lack of inactives

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

I'm still waiting for the 40k metal after I've send you 2x 20k crystals :S
What do you mean 'not having such a low Deut mine count'?
My opinion is that Deuterium is a late-game thing. People with big fleets crave deuterium all the time, because fleet-saving costs more and more, the bigger their fleet becomes. So, I personally don't upgrade my deuterium mines that much early on because there is very little for you to actively spend it on - 10k maximum for Colony Ships. Your Solar Plants don't give out that much energy early on - and it's logical to reinvest that little energy you do get, back into Metal and Crystal (because it's Metal and Crystal which improve your mines and not Deuterium). Later on when you start climbing up the research tree you will want to increase your deuterium mines - or find some nice inactives who have already done this for you.
I remember in uni 39, players were actually crashing their fleets into heavily defended inactive's and sustaining losses just so they could steal between 50 and 100k Deuterium. They would then just recycle their lost fleet and rebuild it. Hydra is relatively new still and Deuterium is relatively rare still. Some players go all out Deuterium mines and rely on an active alliance for trading Metal and Crystal - but they also rely on their alliance to defend them if some nasty person notices a Deuterium planet.
None.
Metal Mine (Level 11) = 1.035
Crystal Mine (Level 13) = 987
Deuterium Synthesizer (Level 12) = 449
Solar Plant (Level 15) = 1.253
I need tons of Deut for research and my ships, but I hate how low that is compared to everything else. Plus I'm at the point now where it takes 1 Solar Plant to energize a new Deuterium Synthesizer.
Also about the colony thing, my rank seems to have gone back down now that I've built stuff on the new planet. It just seemed funny that I was being punished for colonizing a new planet when that should be considered a greater asset.

Yeah, at this rate I'm buying nothing but Deuterium Synthesizers on my second planet and not worrying about the metal and crystal just yet. I need so much of it. Ugh.

Find inactives and raid them... It's a lot easier to benefit from their deuterium mines than it is to build your own.
None.
Yeah, I have 5 fleet slots (and 18 Small Cargo Ships to utilize them) that I use to get metal, crystal, and deuterium from other planets, but I always get more metal and crystal than deuterium. I mainly don't like the idea that I can send 10 small cargoes to a planet with 40k metal, 30k crystal, and 10k deuterium, and only bring back a third of that, whereas I send 5 small cargoes to a planet with 15k metal, 10k crystal, and 10k deuterium, and practically clean them out. It seems like if I win a battle, I'd want to fill my small cargo ships to the brim rather than just bring back a small amount.

Why would you try to attack me? Haha.
EDIT:
Ah nevermind, had to see a detailed report to see it was just a probe.
Also, lol @:
The attacking fleet fires 1 times at the defender, with a total firepower of 0. The defender's shields absorb 0 damage points.
The defending fleet fires 81 times at the attacker, with a total firepower of 9.692. The attacker's shields absorb 1 damage points.

lol poison - that's what fleetsaving is.
If you see an incoming attack and you cannot win, you send all your ships away carrying as much resources as they can and you spend everything else. Or you send a circular to your alliance saying you need x many ships to defend you for 1 hour at this time (of incoming attack), get an alliance member to attack you with 1 probe to create a debris field and get everyone to send their recyclers to harvest this debris field seconds after the attack is over.
So, when the attacker thinks he's going to make some hefty profit and crush some of your fleet - he'll sign on to see that your defence tripled in size, seconds before his attack landed and that there is no debris field meaning we salvaged it.
And yeah - you can get more advanced ships than your technology allows for. The maximum number of ships you can find is translated into resource terms as 500,000 units. So you can find 500 Espionage Probes (costing 1,000 each), or 8 battleships (costing 45,000 + 15,000 = 60,000 each) - provided the fleet you sent on the expedition has enough cargo-space to bring them back.
The most resources you can bring back is 2,000,000. This depends on the length of your expedition and the cargo space your fleet has available.
It's rumoured that if you send a hell of a lot of espionage probes (150+) on your expedition, you are less likely to encounter pirates/aliens, and more likely to encounter resources/friendly ships.
The ideal fleet to send on expeditions is between 100 Small Cargoes and 100 Espionage Probes to 400 Small Cargoes and 250 Espionage Probes - depending on the length of the expedition in total - this way you get maximum gains and if in the case of your fleet encountering pirates/aliens or being lost completely - it is relatively easy to rebuild.
