Sorry about the shitty quality.

Note:

Currently not working on this map due to the 2011 RPG Contest and the project I have planned for that.

What do you mean about the hydralisk thing? Like, use unit order coordinate detection?
Cool map any how.

It uses Target Detection and Order coordinates, but Order coordinates don't really do anything but detect when the hydra has moved (it's a lot faster than inverted locations. more responsive gunfire). The triggers work like this. If the Hydra has moved but has no target then the player has missed, if the hydra moves and has a target then the player has hit something and damage is dealt to whatever the hydra has targeted. It's very self explanatory once you play it. I'll probably release a demo with one weapon in a bit.

Sounds very interesting, even if I have to connect under WIndows to play it. I think that the tricky part for you will be to make sure there's more to the gameplay than just "who can click more accurately." I'll look forward to its completion!

There should be a lot of strategy involved in a bunch of the gametypes... especially domination. Plus once airstrikes and artillery and all that is added the focus should be taken off guns quite a bit.

added more pictures and progress is going terrific. Any feedback at all is greatly appreciated. I know sc1 is pretty much dead but I'm planning on finishing this with atleast 3 gametypes and a bunch of weapons and options...

I wouldn't say that SC1 is dead quite yet; I mean there are still lots of games being played and new maps being made...just not on SEN. Anyway, the new screenshots look nice. Let me know if I can be of any help with regards to testing, etc.

Will do for sure. Once I get this darned options system finished I'll probably be releasing a beta version for people to play around with, I'll need quite a bit of help with the gametypes in terms of ideas and gameplay.

Since you're using a Hydra to target, couldn't the players technically fire blindly into the fog? And possibly hit something? That would be pretty cool.

Oct 2 2010, 9:30 pm samsizzle Post #9

I wouldve done that for all weapons using a location grid and order coordinates, but since order coordinates are a TON of triggers for a small area it wouldn't have been worth it. But there are going to be weapons such as the shotgun that do splash damage so if you hit someone it'll do AoE damage to players around your target.

It is a thought, though. If you were to add in the system like that, I envision a random hit system based on accuracy:

1. Bullet comes into contact with an enemy
2. Center ever-larger locations on the spot where the contact point was, to determine how far away the shooter was
3. Run a probability to see whether or not the shot hits
4. Apply results.

Now, you couldn't really just shoot randomly into fog and detect all opponents along that straight line in an attempt to make things more realistic, unless you somehow rope Kaias into helping you. The calculations involved with that are pretty complex. =/

I dont know about that but what I really need is some way of detecting obstacles in between the shooter and the target. For the shooter system I had tried something like that before where damage and all that was based off locations and randomizers and it just got really messy and unreliable, people were constantly going OH MY GOD I HIT HIM!!!?!??! WHY DIDNT HE DIE!? So I settled for a simpler system where if you shot someone... you shot em. If you get what I'm sayin.

Besides that I've been messing around with a console so I can play around with systems in game, and I'm gonna try and finish the domination game type along with a game menu for changing settings.

What sort of menu/console are you using? Since you seem to like EUDs and have some null terrain hanging around already, have you thought about a clickable-button-type selection system? I mean something like this:

Collapsable Box

oooh that does look pretty. Originally I was gonna go for something like that except use order coordinates, text overtop and mouse position. Since display text is local I could also have the text change color when you roll your mouse over it. But thats a lot of triggers and I didnt think it was worth it, I might do it later tho. What I'm going with now is just displaying text and using a hydra to cycle through and select options. Hold position would be select and moving the hydra would cycle through items.

Not yet, but soon... sorry I've been procrastinating preparing this map for SEN.

Yes I'm still working on this. I've been trying to fix a really nasty bug that makes P5 miss like 50% of the time for no reason and all the other players don't miss which is really odd... but yes. Progress is good.

Updated original post and a really neat new Idea has been planned out by Lethal_Illusion and I. All I'm gonna say is it involves interacting with the minimap and planes and explosions. If you've played CoD you can probably guess what I'm talking about.

ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

You have a marine that you use as a normal unit. It does everything normally except fire at enemies. You use your hydralisk to sorta aim at the enemies. Wherever you tell your hydralisk to move with right-click, that's where you shot will go off (I think).

So I move my marine until i see an enemy and press dra hotkey and right click to fire?

Impressive.

yeah basically. Sad to say tho that I'm no longer working on this map due to the 2011 RPG contest taking up all my creative powers. I'll probably finish something like this later on tho..
