Wow, I'm glad everyone can agree on what's the best layout
.
Personally, I agree with Foxwolf that collapsed boxes are an eyesore. I could always use encaseboxes (restricted size) instead of regular encases to reduce the size of the post though. Anyway, I'll revert to the old template. Sorry Azrael
.
Just a matter of opinion I suppose
This one is pretty functional though.
Why do we want to reduce the size of the post? You have to read all of it anyways. Encasebox is just annoying.
None.
Yeah unless you've read the rules and judging criteria 5 times already. I don't care I was just sayin'.
None.
Can we have an extension, please?
None.
It's a little too early to ask for an extension. You still have until sunday at midnight. If, by then, at least two entrants still need it then we'll probably extend it.
None.
Fee Fie Foe Fum
Here's the Conundrum
Just to tell y'all that the
DEADLINE IS BY THE END OF TODAY! IN TWO DAYS!! Sorry if I scared anyone lol
If any of you want an extension, please ask now, and we may reconsider the due date.
If no one asks, then we assume everyone dropped out.
Moreover, I couldn't work on my map
... i'm very sorry....
I'm planning to implement an extra feature in the next contest that would hopefully stir people to actually finish their entries.
Not all hope is lost

All submissions are due August 29th, 2010, by 11:59:59PM EST.
Forgive me if I'm just disoriented (I haven't slept much lately), but isn't today the 27th? I should be able to get mine done on time...but that means by the end of Sunday, not by the end of today.
None.
The deadline is
Sunday the 29th, not today. Disregard what Unholy said. You still have 2 days left.
It was originally intended to be today since I made this topic on a friday but due to some slowness it only appeared on a sunday. Hence the change in deadlines.
None.
Plus anyways you said:

I already asked. And the request still stands.
None.
There are only a few hours left before the deadline. Does anyone else want an extension? Remember that late entries are still accepted.
None.
I think I should be good to finish by the deadline...maybe. No promises about one second
before the deadline, though. Unfortunately, an extension would be useless to me, since I have to go straight from finishing this map back to real work...so I guess it's hurry or fail. Good times.

I've attached my map for this round.
I didn't get a chance to test many of the systems, so expect enormous, game-breaking, misery-causing bugs in this version. Also, the current briefing sucks and probably needs to be replaced. But...it exists, and unless I'm forgetting any, all of the systems called for in my plan are implemented, with a good 10-15 seconds to spare
. So here it is. I'll put up a thread with a tested and no doubt more functional version when I have the time-- it'll probably be a few days before I can come back to working on the map.
EDIT: Thread should probably be up sometime later this week, with testing and revisions coming after that. If you have bug reports (and based on how little testing I had time to do, I expect that there will be many, many bugs. Heck, I nearly forgot one of the important traditional systems, and only started triggering it five minutes before the end of the contest...that's not exactly the kind of triggering that leads to things working perfectly the first time), you will be able to post them on the thread, once it exists.
EDIT #2: It looks like I'll probably be writing the thread and beginning the debugging process starting Thursday evening, if anyone has an interest in helping a no doubt more functional version emerge (the truth is, I have no idea how bad or non-bad the glitches with the current version are, seeing as I haven't had time to test the majority of the triggers. I assume there are lots of bugs, though, since my usual map style relies on debugging each system with a bit of tinkering as it is implemented, in order to make things work. I'm actually posting from my office at the moment...).
EDIT #3: The thread
exists. Feel free to take a look. If you feel like helping out with testing and debugging, let me know by posting there!
DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE VERSION ATTACHED TO THIS POST UNLESS YOU ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN WHAT WAS COMPLETED DURING THE CONTEST PERIOD. THE VERSION ON THE MAP'S RELEASE THREAD IS VASTLY SUPERIOR.(attachment removed)

Thanks for your contribution foxwolf. Your map looks great. I'll try it out as soon as I can.
On another note, we've agreed to extend the deadline. If anyone is working on something and would like a few more days to submit something, feel free to tell us and we'll adjust the deadline in consequence.
None.
Here ya go. It's just a demo because this is going to take longer than expected.

Hm, it kind of reminds me of the map "Mario 2D" from a few years ago...(see attached)
Not entirely sure what it has to do with customization, though.

Lol, theme is still not being enforced? What is even the point of having it?
Personally, I think the fact that this rule exists:
The maps to be submit must adhere to the prescribed theme.
...
in addition to there being a scoring category for "theme" should mean that maps with nothing to do with the theme are disqualified and should not receive minerals, even if they would have gotten a mineral-earning place with a 0 in "theme". My feeling-- and I say this without anyone or any map in particular in mind, but just as a general comment, one that extended play of the submitted maps might reveal not to apply to anything submitted for this round-- is that people who try to "play the system" in order to earn minerals deserve to have the system step on them, but ultimately, how the rule is enforced will be up to the judges.

I agree, it's not hard to make your map conform to the given theme. The only reason I could see for someone to blatantly ignore the theme is if they're submitting a map they didn't make recently, or perhaps for the satisfaction of trolling the contest. Either way, it shouldn't be rewarded.
Maps not related to the theme can still be judged, but if they are, their score shouldn't count toward the overall score rankings or toward earning minerals.
