So today I saw this on facebook
Wow, so Blizzard officially doesn't give a dam if you support cracking their game? I guess Centreri was actually right, it didn't help us one god dam bit playing by the rules, it only hurt us.
Policy change time anyone?
Magic box god; Suck it Corbo
Maybe they didn't browse too deep through the site... Playing by the rules only works if everyone else does
The policy wont change. And by now, what would be the point? The game comes out in a few weeks, anyway.
This isn't the first time SC2Mapster has been advertised on the SC Facebook page. The first time they did it, Sixen didn't even know about it. My assumption is they did a quick Google search for SC2 map making communities and chose the first and most active one. Considering SC2M is the only community ever advertised on there, I don't think us hosting the crack would have mattered anyway (considering other SC2 map making communities who do support the crack, are more productive than us, and don't get shown off). Honestly I doubt we'd be any more productive if we had spread it.

But there would be other, more tangible benefits. Like more people on SEN having the editor.
None.
I don't understand why all you guys want to become like sc2 mapster anyway. From what I understand, they're a huge garble of corporate sponsorship and people who barely know each other. I want the
real sc2 mapmakers to come to SEN, not every bum off the dropship who decides to dabble.
Also, not supporting the crack didn't hurt us, if you think about it. We would have had the same member base if we supported the crack that we do now, give or take a few.
And stop being a naysayer CAFG, it's bad enough when the old farts like DTBK do it, at least they can use senility as an excuse, but we don't need you running around spamming "oh all is lost, all is for naught" either.

Vrael, CAFG means that our excuse of "Blizzard supporting us because we don't support cracking" is completely untrue.

My plan: Make SEN a social networking site. Who the hell cares whether people at Mapster make maps or here?
None.

The
real SC2 mapmakers will go to whichever website has the most resources and the most experienced members. Guess which site that is?

StarDepot.org. Everyone knows that.

Not www.staredit.net at the moment...

So let's get IP to make SEN a proper networking site. We can rival facebook! SEN PRYDE!
None.
Guys, you do realize that this is maybe only like 50% up to the site itself?
It's the task of the community to get good members or become good members (-> experienced mappers).
All we can do is to provide a better database (yea, our current one isn't the best, I know). But that's it as the forums are alright and better organized than mapster's and stardepots.
EDIT: I rechecked stardepot and it is way worse than SEN in matter of forums and general appearance in my eyes. When/If IP finishes the DLDB (and it looks good) we would be better in every aspect than stardepot except for experienced members.
Please report errors in the Staredit.Network forum.

I believe Devlin was being highly sarcastic about Stardepot.
None.
Yeah, I was just joking. I think the point I was really trying to make earlier is that despite more people on SEN getting SC2, we'd still have low productivity. We wouldn't really have pulled more members from elsewhere, and we are talking about competing with the entire Curse Network here which far surpasses us in popularity and quantity of users.
I don't really regret sticking with the ban on the crack. I don't see it as hindering us an any way considering everything else that has been mentioned in the thread. As far as I can tell, we haven't lost any members since SC2's beta release. If anything we've gained a few here and there, and that's solely based on how great our community is (rather than what we provide from a map-making standpoint).

This is exactly what Centreri is joking about. We have a great community, but only social networking sites are about community. We are a
map-making site. We need to make maps. A good community is just a bonus!

Too bad we aren't even good at socializing because the mods are bad and lock all the fun topics and the Other forums are run by Nazis.

I don't know why you aren't banned yet, Devilesk. I really wish I did.

I think it definitely sent the wrong message and most likely redirected
some members away from us. However, you're right, we can't blame it all on that. There are a ton of other factors. Which many people have detailed in great, excruciating detail.
