I don't see what's all the fuzz about. We all knew this at the beginning, but since we have our devlin here, it ain't going to change ever. That's it, case closed.

SC2 mapping isn't tempting at all I don't see why it's such a big deal.

We are a map-making site. We need to make maps. A good community is just a bonus!
And when the game is released you'll all make maps. As always, certain members are good at stirring things up over nothing. If you're so concerned then you better be ready to pump out maps as soon as the game is released.

And to everyone: You have no say in my eyes if you haven't completed a single SC 1 map within the last year.

Cent is right, I should add in exceptions:

Those that contribute to the site in major ways including the following:
-Moderating
-Administration
-Tutorial work
-UMS theory work
-Map Making Assistance (SCII included)

May have recognition in my eyes.

I honestly haven't checked any SCII forums, so getting a say in my eyes with helping in the SCII forums alone won't get you too far :cecil:

I can't think of a single person on SEN who cares to any significant extent about what you think of them. :bleh:

Devilesk, that's a fuuuun topic. We could poke and prod and have all sorts of nice time.

Insulting you and breaking your self-righteous delusions of grandeur is fun.

The game comes out in a few weeks anyway, so what's all the fuss about?
There will always be hacks, cracks and torrents and there's nothing we can do to stop them except not to host and/or link to them here.

Doesn't matter if devilesk says something, some other guy doesn't make many maps or another guy disproves of something; just support each other and make the community better as a whole.

I've yet to be knocked off my high horse, CAFG. It's comfy.

@Beer: Our policy of not accepting anything illegal is nonsensical, as we support illegal mods and editors. It was one of several factors which set us behind Mapster. All of these factors stem from staff apathy/incompetence. We didn't advertise, potential mappers to those who did. We didn't support exploring mapping before the editor was out, leading the real mappers to go to the website that did. We didn't support the crack, leading the potential mappers who didn't have the beta to go to Mapster. We didn't have a DLDB set up. We didn't have any news bulletins regarding SCII, while Mapster did.

When the game will be released, what will happen? Not that much. Googling "sc2 mapping" gives mapster at #2 and SEN isn't on the page. We have no impressive projects, nothing to attract people to us over other websites. The only things working for us is that we're known by SCI mappers and that we're more community-minded than other websites; the first means we'll have more bad SCII mappers to start from scratch, and the second means that the occasional mapper who cares more about community than about mapmaking comes to us instead. If they even hear of us. The only thing the release of the game means is that there will be more mapping newbies on the internet; and there's nothing to draw them here.

In other words, staff incompetence is what made us fall so far behind, and now that IP seems inactive again (until v6 comes out a year from now) and so does Corbo, it doesn't look like it'll get any better.

teous delusions of grandeur

We support illegal mods and editors, which have been coded from scratch by people like Suicidal Insanity with the purpose of enriching the game at no cost to blizzard, whereas a crack is explicitly piracy.

Lol @ quotes. Oh, well :P.

I guess you're right, Vrael. And yet, the official SCII twitter feed has twice mentioned Mapster, while we have been mentioned... not.

Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaascinating.

Plus, how does this piracy hurt Blizzard? You can't play or make maps for real without an account you paid for anyway.

Jul 10 2010, 2:27 am Vrael Post #39

You can play and make maps for real with an account you did not pay for as well. That's how it hurts blizzard.

You may live in a sheltered little internet world, but out here in the real world, taking something without paying for it is called "theft" and is punishable by law.

And yet, Mapster was recommended by Blizzard, officially, and SEN was not. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD?!
