Why the hatred for Winamp? I use the same version for many years and it very slim ~1MB (=> negligible loading time, RAM & CPU usage) and has an efficient interface (all you need, nothing you don't need) and a logarithmic volume control.
What else do you need?
Is it the lack of organization tools?
Or is it because versions 3+ are bloatware? (tried v3.0, hated it and ever since sticked to 2.9)

I do not hate Winamp. It has just been awhile since I have last used it, and I have not heard of anyone else talk about it in awhile either. I think it is a fairly good program that does the job.

Some 'other' programs I should add to my 'others' list: WinRAR and Bittorrent.

The 5.x lite versions are also good. I haven't tried the regular 5.x versions, but they are probably bloated, too.

Which ones, if I may ask?
But yeah, I like this thread because there's always something where you don't have the best program for.
I'm trying TeraCopy and MPC HC right now, lets see if I still like them after using for a week. :D
Might try Winamp 5 lite eventually, not because I'm unhappy with v2.9, but just out of curiosity.

Yes, same. Trying to get the best for ma' lappy. I'm surprised that no one else here has Picasa, though. It has such a nice image-viewer - it loads photos much faster (and sexier) than the default windows viewer and is good for organizing everything.

Does Teracopy replace the default copy thing, or would I have to load another program?

Free Extended Task Manager and jDownloader, I like pretty much any 3rd party task manager, although I especially like the Services and Ports tabs on this one, and I download from a lot of those 3rd party sites, so a helper was greatly appreciated.

That's the beauty of it, it completely replaces the default copy/move functions :)

Same for ACDSee. It's similar to Picasa, in both speed and function, but is more customizable. I don't understand how anyone can continue to use the windows viewer when those are better in every aspect.

It's a replacement, but the program is still loaded into the memory, if that's what you meant.

Yeah, it's awesome, especially because it's not just your average crappy download manager, it does everything for you that used to make downloading a pain for you. Be it parsing any number of links from the clipboard, recognizing captchas, automatically acquiring new IPs, or self extracting using a list of common passwords.

I think for me it's because I store all my photos on my Mac, which has a pretty good photo viewer, so I don't care enough to upgrade my Windows one.

They do have an add-on to open and maybe even save those files for Office 2003.

Yeah, I've already got that, but if they do any fancy formatting then I can't use it :( I just can't take the obnoxious GUI of 2007+, gimme back my dropdown menus and I'd be happy.

I used Yoono for a bit, but then I found myself just going to the sites/opening the messenger programs anyway.

MPC HC plays everything but .wmv files for me. Could this have something to do with my custom nlite installation not having wmp?

Yeah, I've had various issues with it, but since I don't use messenger programs that often, it suits my needs.

It doesn't play .wmv files for me either. And it couldn't play sound for a .mov file.

The main argument for using VLC was that it can play anything. Before VLC I had like 3 media players for the various formats and if MPC forces me into that situation again, then I'll gladly stay with VLC and its minor quirks.

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

Haali Media Splitter
You need a media splitter to play those. VLC probably uses Haali. I think it will support .mov and .wmv (both play fine on my install, but I've had so many codecs installed at one point or another, they still might be around), but if not, there's always quicktime alternative.

VLC>Quicktime.

Haali didn't help. I think I'm going back to VLC unless I can figure this out. And it's not that I'm missing the codec. WMP6 can play the files.

There are two things I like about MPC: Click to pause/play and doubleclick to fullscreen/normal. :P

There's a lot I like about MPC (and other media players, for that matter), but being able to play (almost) all files is a hard criterion. Not being able to view standard video types like .wmv and .mov is just unacceptable.
It also seems MPC can't handle streams, so I would have to keep VLC anyway.
