Hello

After three weeks of hard work, I have finally finished the Download Database.

So, what has changed?
The major changes of the DLDB are the new template (thanks to DavidJCobb) and many bugfixes. In addition to that I have made everything simpler, for example the categories system and the browsing.
Sadly, I "had to" remove the tags system as it was being abused all the time with useless tags. This was one of the major reasons why the first DLDB failed. I might re-add them, but probably not in the near future.
Reviews section is now completly fused with the DLDB.
For those of you who knows css pretty well and/or would like to make a new skin (or edit an old one): the DLDB's layout is mainly css controlled which means you can completly edit the navigation bar or the file info box.

One thing that still needs to be done
Yet, nearly all of the files have no category (-> they are unsorted) but do not worry: I'll encourage the -- let's call them "DLDB-Force" -- to adjust all files. They might be adjusted within a month.
Oh and sorting files by name is not working properly right now because of the color tags

Are you still working on it?
Yes, it's still in its beta phase but I decided to release it now as it is actually fully functionally but improvements (like the mouse-over nav bar some of you requested) will come.

Important: Post bugs which were not mentioned yet in this topic!
Have Fun.

Congratulations on the great work! :)

The feedback I can offer:
-A lot of the text is huge
-"Popular" should imply that there are popular sounds as well, instead it just leads you to the "SC1" category. Is this intentional?
-When browsing through maps (it was 'popular maps'), some maps have rating displayed but when you go to the specifications of those maps it says 'not enough votes'.

Cool. Thanks Dev.

Newgrounds uses an automatic system of categorizing... They let pubbies suggest a category for a flash, and with enough suggestions over time, the flash is added to the category.. It may help alliviate some work on your part XD.

I'm guessing the categorizing is done by the author? :O

For new files, yes, but for the existing files it's the DLDB staff's job.

Poor DLDB staff :(

I just went through the DLDB, and even tried uploading a map.
I have to say, it is a ton neater than than the first DLDB. And the tabs design, while it is aesthetically plain, works quite well.

Hey, erm... isn't the UMS categories missing ... an "Arena" category? :( ... or was that deliberate ><'

EDIT: Some problems
- We can't name any new images we input without submitting twice
- The locked file confused me a bit.. what does it do? Also, maybe an "Upload is successful" would be nice.. because I had to go back to the DLDB to just check if it worked.
- With multiple images, i don't see any way of controlling which image to be put on the "title image".. or the image that people see while surfing the database.

Hey, erm... isn't the UMS categories missing ... an "Arena" category? :( ... or was that deliberate ><' Discussed this a lot. HOW to define arena maps? that's the major problem. But I might add it.

EDIT: Some problems
- We can't name any new images we input without submitting twice Oh yea... will add tomorrow
- The locked file confused me a bit.. what does it do? Also, maybe an "Upload is successful" would be nice.. because I had to go back to the DLDB to just check if it worked. Locking file only allows you and managers (admins and gods as well) to edit the file. When uploaded a map you should be redirected to the file.
- With multiple images, i don't see any way of controlling which image to be put on the "title image".. or the image that people see while surfing the database. Yet this relies on the upload order. I'll add radio buttons for that later on to decide which image will be situated there

Just posted a review. It seems to have worked fine.

One request, though. (Not sure how much work this would take, but I know it would be mostly PHP.) It'd be nice if the Comments form was a regular BBCode entry form, like on the forums and wiki. Reviews could use a similar system, with the side panel (smilies and such) omitted. Not strictly necessary or even important, but it'd be somewhat useful.

:payne:

Must I reiterate all the points I had named previously? :O
By the way, we cannot upload SC2 maps because the extension ".s2ma" isn't allowed. Just wanted you to know ;)
A (new) recommandation: outline the Forces box (only) with a dark cadre. It's up to you.
And why does this file has a 'sound' image as default image? Shouldn't it be a 'winzip' one?

EDIT: Wtf is happening to my file? http://www.staredit.net/files/2083/

@payne: Woah. Seems like among other things, your map's title confused some of the PHP. I wonder if the problem resulted from a color code or something in the title?

@Devourer: I fail so hard. I just realized, for the rating display... The IMGs, etc., are already there. I could give you the appropriate image file and CSS right now, he could add it, and it would immediately start displaying epic star images instead of large, plain text -- no HTML or PHP changes needed. You in favor of that, Dev?

(Originally, I'd had star ratings shown there, but when I updated the draft (integrating the ratings into the infobox), I forgot about it -- so I didn't recognize that rating position as being the remnant of an older draft, and hence forgot that HTML-wise, it was fully rigged for star image CSS.)

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Hmm not a fan of having to go through three steps just to find SC1 maps and categories (or two if I just click maps, but that wouldn't be the case in SC2, theoretically). I kinda liked the idea from the concept layout where clicking on "Maps" would give you all the categories right there. I don't mind the simplicity of this layout so much, but I'm really just not a fan of the sub-categories (especially having everything aligned on the left like that). I agree with others that perhaps a mouse-over nav-bar would be better (similar to the actual SEN navigation). Honestly, when I first clicked maps, I didn't even see the three sub-categories. I thought they had been removed for a minute as if the DLDB was left without any sort option.

This is a great improvement over the old one, though. :P

:payne:

Maybe a list-link on the left as Naviguation-Bar? I'd actually like it more :)
And Devourer, detect the extension and set the game automatically (scm = SC, scx = SC:BW, s2ma = SC2).

>be faceless void >mfw I have no face

"Recently reviews" should be "Recently Reviewed" or "Recent Reviews". "Recent Commented on" should be "Recently Commented On".
Don't seem to be able to go into the SC2 section.

Otherwise, good job Dev!

EDIT
Force names are getting cut off.

Hello

@ David: It would not fit the size, but I'll keep it in mind

@ Payne: Not allowed on purpose: we yet do not have a sc2-map-parser
@ Payne: Nope, forces are alright...
@ Payne: You can set file specifics thumbnails, right now sound thumbnail only. I'll add more of them later on
@ Payne: This file was breaking the parser. It was protected by a protector which screwed it up. Files like that are being deleted

@ David: No, as said, the parser failed ^^
@ David: Not yet, later on maybe

@ Devlin: Thanks, keeping it in mind

@ Payne: What? 1 nav bar is enough
@ Payne: Neat idea with the auto categry setting

@ Jack: Thanks for pointing the spelling errors.
@ Jack: On purpose, we yet do not have a SC2-Maps parser
@ Jack: Forces names are being cut off on purpose, to avoid design scratching

Hey really nice work on the DLDB! I really like it!
Just one quick question. Is there anything that stops the same map from being uploaded twice? Or exactly will that work out?

When the filename already exists in the database the upload will be denied :)
And thanks.

Shouldn't you be more careful about this? Some people might not have copies of their own maps; they ought to have some warning and a chance to get a copy for themselves before the file is deleted.

Tags are useful in finding certain maps. Lets compromise, instead of disabling tags maybe have a letter limit or tag limit?

Looks very nice.

I noticed that the category "strategy" is available under search, but not for actually tagging the files.
