ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

Hai gais,

As most of you, or some of you know, I'm going to NY this xmas, I live on the 19th and come back on jan 3rd.
The thing is that I want to ask you how things are there?

What's the weather like right now, what kind of clothing should I take?
Yes, I know there's sites to see the weather forecast but I just don't trust them really.

Where can I buy stuff?
I'd like to buy equipment for my camera, maybe musical instruments, games (I have a ps2 but I think my dad will buy a wii, yes my dad, o.O), where can I buy electronics in general? I'd like to buy a 1TB external HD, I'd like performance vs cheap price. This also comes with how are the prices there? How much is a cheap game, how much are wiis and how much is a cheap HD and so on.

What's there to see?
Besides the obvious stupid tourist filled stuff like the statue of libery, the loads of museums, what else is there?
Are there any bars with live music that are awesome, some streets that is just lovely to walk in there and such.
I'm already making a list of sculptures, famous buildings I have to see, take in mind that I study architecture and I like anything related to art.

When I think of more things I can ask you that you can help me with I will post them. As for now I'd appreciate that and if you could provide adresses, if not, just the name of the store will do in google earth I guess.
I'd also like subway information, are there any 1-week tickets or is it just for the day and what is the cost?

fuck you all

Just here for the activity... well not really

Man I've been to NY, there's so little tourist attraction, and if there is one, it costs alot.
See Statue of Liberty, check.
See 9/11 site, check.
Empire state, check.
Let's go home now.

Fairly cold, but nothing to write home to mother about. I assume you'll spend most of your time in Manhattan; it's really not that hard to find a decent electronics store. I advise checking google maps where you'll be and looking for an electronics store - there's a J&R near where I go to school, and many smaller electronics shops nearby. In order to not waste too much time on buying things, I advise trying Newegg.com while you're here, though I'm not sure if they deliver to hotels (probably do).

Anyway, I don't really like NYC. Manhattan's main attractions are tall skyscrapers, the Empire State Building is just a tall skyscraper you can climb, and ditto with Statue of Liberty (though you take a boat to get to it); other parts of the city are nothing special.

You should slap cent in the face and then run away. The look of confusion in his face will be priceless.

Now, if I could only go to New York :( Get something for me while you are up there, Corbo =D A souvenir or something.

Right now it's pretty cold but the temperature has been fluctuating. Towards Christmas, it's going to start dropping rapidly to below 20 degrees F, which is the highest temperature throughout the day. What I wear is a northface, and those jackets are the ones that mountain climbers wear. Now that I think about it, it gets pretty cold, especially if it's windy. You're going to need a thermal if you want to stay warm.

Remember that NYC isn't just Manhattan. Manhattan is a bit more expensive. You should probably go around Queens to buy electronics. Best Buy and other major electronic stores are the best places tobuy your electronics, but it's almost Christmas and Wiis tend to be sold out. If worse comes to worse, you should go to Junction Boulevard, which you can get to by the 7 train. There are a lot of things to buy there. I honestly think that you should order the Wii online, but you would save only about $20. The Wii dropped a lot in prices, so every store sell them for $199 without taxes. Since you're staying until January 3rd, there is usually an after Christmas or an after New Years sale, so go check out Best Buy, PC Richards, Radio Shack, J&R Radio, and other major electronic stores for those sales.

If you don't plan on staying only in Manhattan, come to Queens. Jackson Heights is known to be the biggest melting pot in NYC, but honestly I see mostly Hispanic people. There are a lot of nice places to eat for cheap around there. There is also Flushing Meadow Park, which is on the end of Queens. You can see the new Met's stadium (Citi Field), or you can go to Bronx and see the new Yankee's stadium. If you want to go to the mall, I would recommend the one in 34th st Manhattan and the one in QUeens, Which is called Queens Center Mall. The mall in Manhattan is easily access by taking the subway to 34th st. For Queen Center Mall, take any train towards Queens to 74th st transfer to the R to Woodhaven blvd, and when you get out, you should see a big mall.

As for the metrocard (Subway pass), they raised it a lot since last year. It's 2.25 per ride, the 1 week is $27, and the 2 week is $51.50. Since you're staying for 2 weeks, you would probably want the 2 week, since it's cheaper than buying 2 1 week.

I'm not staying in manhattan, I'm staying in queens and I think that I'll leave NYC from the 23rd to 26th or something and going to maryland to spend christmas with another "family"

Thanks, I was wondering that. I'll wait for after xmas then to buy my stuff.

wow.. that's just really expensive...
2.25 per ride or per day? in germany they were like 1 euro per day.

If you're going to buy the Wii, try to go as soon as you arrive. I remember having to go all the way to New Jersey to try to get a xbox. My brother was able to get his gamecube but I wasn't able to get my xbox because it was sold out. After Christmas sales are usually inventory clearances, so you have a near 0 chance of getting any game consoles.

Well my father's the one with the idea of buying a wii, and he'll get to NY on the 25th. I myself want a 360 or a ps3 because they are the only ones that have real men games, unlike wii.

Eh. Fairly simple. Every line goes one way and the other. Uptown is increasing the street (14, 23, etc) and downtown is the opposite (this is a general rule; it can also say, for example, Bronx one way and Queens the other, so just consult the map, free from the guy in the booth in the subway). Some stations, like 42nd street, have long passages to change from one line to another, and some lines have different trains going on them. The 1, 2 and 3 go along one line halfway, then one goes one way and 2 and 3 goes the other, with either 2 or 3 being local, stopping at every stop, and the other being express, skipping half the stops. Pretty much it. Probably a better tutorial on the MTA website :P.

Thanks, I asked because the other subway systems I've been in are a god damn mess. Munich one was the worst, it was some sort of circle below the city and the ticket you bought was not for use of the system but rather to use in certain areas or "rings" of that circle. The NY one works kind of like frankfurt's one then.

My sister wants me to ask on how are the trees right now? Do they have leaves or are they like omgfallen because of winter already?
Both, NY and maryland.
