What might you write about?

Relatively ancient and inactive

If you became, for some reason, a writer, what topics might you write about? Would you write novels? Poems? About what? etc etc etc.

Personally, I'd like to write a nice science-fiction series in the Orson Scott Card style (with the nice wars and all that. He's a good writer, but his ground wars are horribly thought through. I reread them recently and was frequently lolwutting). My current idea is that some progressive government decides to try using supercomputers to run the country, and progresses to having people who transferred their consciousness over to computers do it (they can run simulations, etc to govern with minimum mistakes). To keep the computer-conscious people from taking complete control, the government keeps them isolated and uses a system of punishments when one tries to escape from its captivity. This model is threatened when humanity comes into contact with an alien race, a war starts, and after several years in a stalemate, the government decides to give one computer-person more control - over parts of the military, so that it could flawlessly execute whatever maneuvers it needs to, being able to calculate beforehand what the possible consequences are. Humanity starts winning, but this computer-person also manages to use its greater influence to somehow escape from the governments control, and a civil war breaks out on Earth. While humanity bickers, the aliens, naturally, make their nice comeback.

Anyway, that's just my little idea. I was also thinking of making a campaign based on a similar idea - doesn't the Terran Dominion seem like a faction that can try to turn to computers to achieve an advantage over its enemies? There's even a precedent from which the Dominion can get the idea - the hierarchical Zerg command, with the Overmind, Cerebrates and Overlords.

wth is starcraft

You should follow through and write it, Centreri. What's stopping you? :) A matter of fact, I suggest that if it motivates you, make the campaign first. It might help you stumble through plot holes.

Right now, I write content articles in my free time - mostly for the fun of it - on Associated Content. Its a fun hobby to have, and it provides some amusement for me. For example, an editorial on Starbucks has three times the pageviews as two articles on Alzheimer's and genetics combined. Albeit, it should be expected. I know people on the site who make 300 or 400 a month off of it, but they dedicate much more time to their works and spend a lot more time on SEO optimization.

What I really like to write is hard science fiction, as well as sci-fan in a three part epic type style. I haven't read any particular author yet that I would like to align myself to as far as either of those go. The problem with these for me is that my ideas are so complex and hardly thought out, so I get tangled up in sub plots and drowned before I even have a chance to breathe. For one, I have a story that has evolved quite nicely into a scifi political drama that started out as very angsty and hardly developed fantasy. Of what I can finish, I see an underlying trend of how technology and its worst and best aspects effects the characters. Least year's NaNo was driven by a woman who had stolen the identity of someone online, and liked it so much she started dressing and acting like that person, too. Right now I'm trying something a little different, in that it is entirely fantasy. I wouldn't call it high fantasy, necessarily...as I haven't introduced magic, and I won't until the last few thousand words, probably.

I love writing, and my topics are all over the board when I write, whether short story, fiction, nonfiction, novel, poetry...etc. So I guess I might write about anything.

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

One of my life goals is to write 3 books before I die. I'd write architectural/design books, though, and not really science fiction or anything like that.

fuck you all

I would enjoy writing horror novels or novels about zombies. I find it interesting to write about some characters who go through a bunch of crap and either live or die or something unrelated. However, I always like originality in books about things I'd never expect, as long as they make sense. I use to write very small stories (about ten pages) before and even joined some sort of internet writing thing (didn't go on their a lot but occasionaly). Right now I'm working on a game that has a good sized story for a starcraft map. Although it's basis is like 90% Silent Hill. I am basically borrowing the entire SIlent Hill 2 storyline, but the idea of entirely copying a story and then just changing words in the game sounded like a rip off so I just changed it a bit to make it more interesting. Not like I could completely adapt it anyway :P.

I enjoy writing short stories in 3-5 page "parts." Long stories don't suit my writing style.

Just Here For The Pie

I have had this story since I was a child where a man dies saving Earth from an alien invader, but it is later revealed that the savior himself is an alien of this same species. Another alien, Ian, comes to Earth to destroy the savior, but instead finds the savior's son (whom was produce by mating with an earthling). The son ends up killing Ian, and that is when the whole plot switches to the point of Ian where he changes his ways while he is in the afterlife. I have never made it clear how, but Ian ends up coming back to life. He now wants to change the way of his people's habit of destruction, and he ends up finding out that they are being controlled by a satanistic demon whom walks in the shoes of a man. Ian bands together with others trying to stop him.

I want to say, I would like to write a series of science-fiction short novels, or just a science-fiction comic series.

Quote from Centreri

An Idea close to that is a book called Footprints of God by Greg Iles, it's not exact but it's close, and he sure doesn't have aliens. If you write your idea I'm sure it'd be better if you write really well and don't change things too fast.

But, If I wrote a book it'd probably be science fiction and in space, where a crew are isolated from any contact with other humans or races. They'd be trying to find Earth and eventually crash land after a large incident occurs on a dark planet that's black and almost invisible if you see it from the ship. They'd crash and go through different situations like mutiny and survival and some paranormal things that have to do with the planet their on. Eventually there are only a few left and they find out it was Earth they were on all along.

I'd write an allegorical epic. The allegory would be that all literature posted on the internet is inherently bad.
