Who reins supreme in the platformer market? Both Sonic and Mario have had their successes and failures over the year. On one hand, I would say even though the Mario franchise failed a few times (Super Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario or whatever, Super Mario Brothers 2), there are so many other Mario games that make up for it, like oh Id on't know, anything else with the name "Mario" in it.
On the flip side, Sonic and Knuckles remains my favorite singular platform game of all time. I tried playing Sonic Rush for the DS, and that failed pretty hardcore. It just wasn't the same game play, and Sonic's development team is the worst at coming up with new characters. At least I liked Rosalina in Super Mario Galaxy. But the mini games in the Mario games are pretty lame, non existent, or only fun the first couple times, whereas I could play Blue Spheres forever. Oh, and how cool is it that the retrofitted Sonic 2 so you could play the game as Knuckles?
Bonus Trivia:
Why wasn't Knuckles retrofitted for the first Sonic game?
What was the US release title of the
actual Super Mario Brothers 2 game?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? Paper Mario was AWESOME. And don't let Doodan see you insult Super Mario Sunshine >>
wasn't the super mario 2 one called the lost episodes or something?
i remember
reading watching a IRATE gamer about this on youtube.
it was so funny.
but overall, i like mario better, i only liked sonic battle, which isn't even a platformer, and sonic adventures
None.
wtf, Paper Mario terrible? Super Mario Sunshine? You must be on crack Kame, or you're trolling me again. xD Mario, hands down. Galaxy was the game of the forever.
None.
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was pretty awesome, although the other new sonic games were pretty meh. I'll have to go with Mario on this one though.
None.
I voted Mario.
I've never owned a Sega system, nor have I ever desired to. To me, Sonic started and ended with Adventure 2 Battle, and the only redeeming quality that gave it any replay value were the Chao. Everything previous was either on a system that wouldn't be worth getting just for the game, or was a game that is old enough that with no nostalgia value attached, I'll never see value in.
As a platformer Mario is infinitely superior, and quite frankly, no one does it better. Its like those games no one remembers who tried to muscle into Resident Evil territory and got their asses handed to them.
Relatively ancient and inactive
Mario > Sonic. I'm not a 'hardcore' one for either, and I've played some handhelds for both, but I like Mario games mostly for their length. The two sonic games I have had maybe 30 levels (max); Mario had a hundred. It's just more hours of enjoyment.

haha i agree with ex.
sunshine was the best mario game i ever played, after galaxy.
paper mario and sunshine were like the bests of mario games
None.
I'm a little surprised...not at the results, but that not many people have played the original Sonic games. I can't believe that some of you have never owned a Genesis, Saturn or Dreamcast!
How many of you have voted Mario and have played the original three Sonic games?
First to vote other!
Nothing owns quite as hard as plugging sonic 2 on top of sonic and knuckles. Well, except for putting in the code that gives you all 7 chaos emeralds at the start of the game in sonic 2.

I had a Master System (Wonder Boy anyone?
) and a Mega Drive. From then on I switched to computers. I don't understand why people get consoles when you can use computers to play games but also offer so much more...
Never had any Nintendo myself, so I didn't really have a chance to fall in love with Mario. Well, except Mario World 2 which I played on Super Nintendos at local stores.
Riding Yoshi was just so cool.
However I preferred the Sonic series which generally had a faster game play. Also the character was much cooler and 2 player gaming better encouraged team play.
Why wasn't Knuckles retrofitted for the first Sonic game?
Hmmm. abou this...
I belive it had something to do with making the game too easy due to his wall-climbing powers, or something along those lines.
None.

I think I've played two of them. They're incredibly fun, but I think the variety in Mario's franchise takes the cake.

played all three brotha, and that's why i voted sonic.
None.
I still have my Genesis (and Sonic 2) up in my attic, and I used to play my friend's Dreamcast a lot. They were great consoles.
tits

For the record, Kame is female.

I think the explanation I've seen is that it would actually either make Knuckles the wrong color or would change some key colors in the background if they let you play as Knuckles in it. I've also heard that the graphics for him actually do already exist in the game.

It is questions like this one that makes my mind fight itself. I have wasted so many hours playing almost all of both their games. In more than one file too.
I like both far
too much!
By the way, Paper Mario was
AWESOME!
None.
Super mario sunshine was awesome ;o It was like 64 but longer.
I would have said Sonic, but since there was only like 3 of them that were any good (1 and 2 are pretty much teh same thing, 3d was well...3d, and of course Adventure 2 was epic)
