Just here for the pie

I think that the message obviously points to FatalException. He comes from the East (Asia) and slices and dices (ninja).

Sep 23 2009, 6:31 pm InsolubleFluff Post #882

I told everyone because everyone had the ability to read that message, it wasn't hidden.
I told everyone how to solve it because if I die, so would the key to reading it since you are all fuck all lazy.
Basically, don't criticize me for putting in the effort to not just lynch blindly.

Terror from the east, slicing and dicing?
Computer crash?

Who is this?

Sep 23 2009, 6:54 pm Vrael Post #883

If you had really chopped it up into blocks of 5 and left out punctuation, I don't think anyone could have solved it, ever. Being a secret key cipher, there are about a bagillion times infinity different keys that could've been used, or it could've been one of the 26! letter mappings, and we'd have been left in the dust. Even computer programs wouldn't have been able to help us. Don't even joke about doing such a thing!

A Vigenere square cipher is breakable using frequency analysis (assuming the ciphertext is significantly longer than than the key and/or the key is nonrandom - both of these were the case here). Even with a text-length key, if it isn't random, you can use strategies such as assuming any given three letters are 'the' (a common trigraph) and looking for intelligible bits of the keytext.

Only if the key is as long as the message and the key is random is the cipher fundamentally unbreakable (because the message is fundamentally indistinguishable from every other message of the same length). Use of this form, however, has been limited in the past because you need to securely pass a key as long as the message for every message sent. With the advent of quantum cryptography, we are able to securely send data with no key, with the caveat that roughly half the data sent is lost at random. Combine these two and you have a fundamentally unbreakable encryption system, which exists today.

Yeah but there's no guarantee as to what cipher you might use. You might use 8 ciphers for all we know.

yea but you didn't give us a key =O

Do you realize that there are only two mafia left, one of them being the don?

Isn't there three mafia left?

One mafia, one don, one mole. And the mole don't count.

I apologize, but I am unbelievably busy right now. I expect day to end sometime this weekend. If someone wants to run a vote count, feel free.

I vote FatalException.

Not because of Asia, Slicing and Dicing or Kattana's, but because of 'Computer Crash.'

Aka... a fatal exception.

I dont think its that unbalanced. The town found a lot of clues, I just think the town is good. Special role wise, the town-aligned roles haven't done that much. Doctors/Savers protected the obvious people (inferno) and mafia also tried to hit inferno. the detectives were wiped out pretty fast. and the mafia made a mistake by not making anyone vote for bbyte. the zombies, pyschos, and those roles, they didnt do so well. the zombies didnt hit any of the mafia, and they killed townies.

maybe the ratio of mafia:townspeople is a little unbalanced, but i just think its that the town played well, and found good clues

I honestly think that Inferno being revealed did more good than harm for the town.

NudeRaider -- PSA: ASUS apparently decided their RMA department needs to "become profitable" and for a while now outright tries to scam customers. They were called out on it a year ago, promised to change, but didn't. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pMrssIrKcY so my recommendation: Stop buying ASUS, and if you already have and need something RMA'd, make sure to not let them bully you into paying.
